Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
[Day 3 of Mount Kinabalu Tour: Challenge the Highest Peak in Malaysia]
Today, we officially started the first step of climbing Mount Kinabalu! Starting from Timpohon Gate at an altitude of 1,866 meters, we finally arrived at the Laban Rata mountain hut at 3,272 meters after 6 kilometers of steep mountain roads with an altitude increase of about 1,460 meters and 6.5 hours!
I arrived at the registration office of Kinabalu Park at 7 o'clock in the morning, completed the formalities, and received the identification card. I was lucky to meet two solo travel companions. We shared the guide fee together, which saved a lot of travel expenses and also made me gain good friends during the trip.
The first part of the climbing route is mostly stone steps, while the latter part is a rocky slope that tests your physical strength and will. There are multiple rest stops along the way, each a great place to catch your breath and rehydrate. The higher you go, the more spectacular the scenery becomes. The vegetation changes from dense forests to alpine shrubs in the clouds, as if you have stepped into a fairyland!
At 2:30 in the afternoon, we finally arrived at the Laban Rata mountain house, which provided warm beds and hot dinner. Although there is no heating on the mountain, each other's laughter and a table of hot food are the warmest comfort.
Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, with an altitude of 4,095 meters. Although the cost of mountain climbing is not cheap, the shock and sense of accomplishment it brings are truly irreplaceable!
This journey not only conquered a mountain, but also brought us beautiful scenery, friendship and incomparable touching moments. Do you want to give it a try too?

Mt. Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia
[Sabah self-driving day 2: local markets, food exploration and preparation for Mount Kinabalu]
Today's itinerary starts from the city of Kota Kinabalu. We spent the whole day immersed in the daily life and natural scenery of Sabah, which left us wanting more.
Early in the morning, we walked into the bustling Pasar Besar Kota Kinabalu traditional market, which was filled with fresh and juicy tropical fruits. The rambutan and mangosteen were so delicious that we couldn’t stop eating them. It felt like we had truly integrated into local life.
Then we came to Sri Jakarta Food Court, and I must recommend the Sin Kee Bak Kut Teh! The rich aroma of medicinal herbs and the tender meat make you feel super satisfied after eating one bowl. In the afternoon, we went to the Bataras Marketplace supermarket on Gaya Street and purchased local chili sauce and special handicrafts, which were perfect Sabah souvenirs!
After noon, we started our self-driving trip to Mount Kinabalu! We chose Keddy by Europcar for car rental. The car was in good condition. We drove through the tropical rainforest and the misty mountains in the distance. It was like a feast for the scenery.
In the evening, we checked into J Residence Nabalu B&B near Mount Kinabalu Park. The environment was quiet and the air was fresh, as if we were far away from the city. Dinner was simple but warm - local vegetable soup with salted fish fried rice, steaming hot and fragrant, instantly soothing the fatigue of the whole day.
Pack your equipment at night and prepare for tomorrow's climbing challenge. This journey is not just a scenic tour, but also a deep experience of culture and nature, true relaxation and sedimentation.

A Walk To Remember: Breathtaking Kinabalu
#myhiddengems #familytravel
This Hidden Gem is hidden deep inside the forest; it’s in the Kinabalu National Park, Sabah.
This is Mount Kinabalu Botanical Garden, which houses thousands of flora (and some fauna).
To get here, you can take the boring route: by car. Or do it like us, by taking the Silau-Silau Trail from the Kinabalu Park Office / Headquarters. Park your vehicle at the Liwagu Restaurant, and take a light, scenic trail downhill to the Taman Botanic.
This less than 30 minutes trail will reward you with a small river, a tiny waterfall, and photographic mossy forest scene.
The entrance fee of the botanical garden is RM 5 (international) or RM4 (local) for adults, and RM 2 less for child tickets.
It’s not a large garden, but don’t underestimate the lush greenery around you- it’s so peaceful and beautiful here!

Amazing stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges Kinabalu Park
Done the MtKinabalu hike in 2008. Return to Sabah with family and kids this time. Amazing stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges at Kinabalu Park. Great breakfast range and many short hiking trails nearby which are suitable for young children too. Family and the kids enjoy the walk in cooling weather. Not to forget to mention the amazing view of Mountain Kinabalu right in front of the lodge early in the morning.

Kinabalu Park trails for the explorer!
#wecreate healthy vibes when exploring the great outdoors!
If climbing Mt Kinabalu is not for you, consider trekking the trails at Kinabalu Park. There are a variety of trails around the park, some are more challenging than others. The most friendly of them all was Silau-Silau which is mostly flat.
Be mindful that the ground can be pretty soft if it has been raining and your shoes will get dirty! 🥹
Kiau View Trail has adequate ascent but is generally still pretty friendly. It crosses path with the Pandanus Trail which also has a little bit of ups and downs.
The fresh air is just fantastic! And the greenery…is good for the soul ❤️
Entrance fee to the park is RM10/pax and is valid for the whole day.

【Internet celebrity-level resort restaurant|Malaysia Mount Kinabalu Park】Liwagu Restaurant
This restaurant is located inside Mount Kinabalu Park in Malaysia. It is very beautiful on the internet! Very good for taking photos! When you enter the restaurant, the counter staff will greet you warmly, confirm your identity and guide you to your seat. The sales department on the right sells postcards and Mount Kinabalu photo albums. The postcards are not good-looking but the camera is very good. There is a balcony in the restaurant, and you can directly see Mount Kinabalu when the weather is good. For breakfast, there will be staff to cook hot food and eggs. The meals are self-service, and they also come with soup, salad, drinks, desserts, ice cream, etc. The variety is very rich! Even if the meal is almost over and the dishes are almost gone, they will be replaced with new ones. Every staff member is very friendly and will greet you with a smile when they see you! Highly recommended!
