I started my adventure at the Leeds Kirkgate Market, one of the largest indoor markets in Europe. The mix of traditional Yorkshire stalls and international street food made it a sensory delight. Just a short walk away is Victoria Quarter, a stunning shopping arcade with mosaic floors and elegant architecture—it felt like a mini version of Milan! But the highlight of my trip was visiting Kirkstall Abbey, a breathtaking medieval ruin set in a serene park just 15 minutes from the city center. It’s free to explore and incredibly photogenic, especially in the soft golden light of early evening. It was here, sitting by the River Aire with a coffee from a nearby café, that I felt the true charm of Leeds—calm, reflective, and deeply historic. Best time to visit? Late spring (May–early June) or early autumn (September) are perfect. The weather is mild, the parks are lush, and events like Leeds Indie Food Festival or Light Night Leeds add a unique flavor to your stay. It’s walkable! If you like getting your steps in or there’s the tram & bikes. Walk along the river, start with the Buda palace, wander around the gardens & buildings for free or venture into the museums if you have the time! Street food KARAVÁN is a fun place to pick up some relaxed street food. Afternoon make your way to the city park with the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, just remember to take a towel & flip flops. It’s £20 off peak on the day & up to £38 if you book online in advance. The thermal baths & spa are amazing, remember to explore both sides of the indoor area, it’s much bigger than you think. Walking tour, walk along the beautiful river to see some of the key buildings, and museums. If you have time stop off along the way. Head down towards the Berlin Wall remnants, then on to check point Charlie, there is a cute street food area just by check point Charlie. Stumbled upon this amazing rooftop bar - Hallaway in central Kuala Lumpur that was packed to the brim on a Saturday night. Great for group gatherings and couples on a date night with great drinking options. ✨ Expect a scenic 180 degree panaromic view of the KL skyline, gorgeous colourful jelly fish lights overlooking the outdoor seating and a live band belting out Chinese/ English and Cantonese hits all night. Soccer fans will also be glad too as there is giant screen showcasing the live English premier league match. However, if you’re heading down on a weekend night do expect a crowd and long wait for an outdoor seat. Recommend walking shoes as it’s so beautiful that you need to explore on foot. Rich in history. Would recommend staying in Cornwall also.
