Inscribed in 2019 as a UNESCO world heritage site, the sanctuary is completely accessible to the public and does not charge any entrance fee. The most iconic feature of the sanctuary is the monumental Baroque stairway leading to the Church of Bom Jesus do Monte. We took a taxi which send us to the church directly we so skipped climbing up the 577 steps on the 116-metre stairway. Instead we walked down the stairway after visiting the sanctuary complex. An alternative way to reach the church is by taking the water-powered funicular. #bintan We stopped by Safari Lagoi Bintan, a wildlife and safari park which houses rescued and endangered animals, on our way from our hotel to BBT ferry terminal. The residents in the animal sanctuary include orangutan, sun bears, elephants, kodomo dragons, crocodiles, eagles and many more. These animals are mainly rescued from illegal pet trade and judged to be incapable of survival if released back in the wild. As most attractions are located outdoors without shelter so it's better to bring umbrellas and apply lots of sunscreen! Spent a day at the Phnom Tamao Sanctuary for the Wildlife. Learned a lot with the works of the Wildlife Alliance and how they rescue and take care of wildlife animals, such as elephants, tigers, leopards, sunbears, moonbears, gibbons and many more. The trip is a whole-day trip and packed with interactions with the rescued Asian elephants. Got to meet several of them including Lomphat, the 5-month old elephant that was just recently rescued. These elephants were rescued due to human-elephant conflicts caused by some agrarian-related issues. Other wildlife in this sanctuary were rescued because of people’s lack of knowledge about them. With some, keeping them as pets when they were young and regretting their decisions once they get older. You’ll get to enjoy local Khmer food as well cooked by the locals in the sanctuary. This is all included in the tour package. The tour fee with the Wildlife Alliance will go to the benefit of the animals that they are taking care of so it is worth the visit. Whilst visiting Thailand, a big bucket list of mine was to go to an elephant sanctuary. But, I wanted a real elephant sanctuary, no bathing, touching or interfering with the animal at all. This is where I found ‘Walking With Giants’ in Koh Lanta. This place is incredible, you follow round the elephants in the jungle, across lakes and jungle. These elephants have had horrible lives, in the circus, logging and being a rider for humans. You follow these giants around the jungle, watching from a distance as they enjoy their new lives. You get to learn about the elephants in the park and can also help prepare their food. To escape the crowd and the heat of the Central Vietnam, we started our tour early at around 5:30am from Hoian to explore the splendor of My Son Holy Land. We were immmersed in the fresh air surrounded by trees everywhere. My Son Sanctuary is a tourist attraction recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It’s an evidence of the ancient Champa Kingdom civilization, existed from the 4th to the 13th century. Beautiful Sanctuary 50min away from Brisbane✨ We spent half day there, arrived around 11 am (koalas where in full active mode), there is dozens of them all around the park and they seemed really chilled and happy! There is a zone where you can see and touch the kangaroos who run freely! They are friendly and completely used to people! We bought a $2 bag of food and try to feed them but we soon realized they were thirsty and not hungry! There is more animals like snakes, crocodiles, dingos and so on. Experiences like hold a koala were $45, touch one $35, take a photo $15 extra. There is few zones with different activities and animals and around 3pm when we came back to the main area most of the koalas were sleeping 😴 I really recommend this experience, specially for families! #Brisbane #australia #sanctuary #koala #Kangaroo

Thailand is home to the magnificent Asian elephant. Unfortunately, many elephants are used for entertainment and labor. Whilst visiting Thailand, Phuket, I learned of a few places considered as sanctuaries for elephants that have been ill treated since birth, and now rescued. Unfortunately, many of these elephants have sustained injuries and conditions which would impact their survival in the wild. These lovely charities rely on donations and visits from the public to help support these animals. Whilst I wish elephants could be allowed to live peacefully in the wild, it was wonderful to meet and feed them up close. A once in a lifetime opportunity. #elephant #sanctuary #animallover #phuket

All I can say is WOW..What a wonderful highlight of this Thailand trip. My wife and I booked the Phuket Elephant House Sanctuary (North Phuket) a day before going. The sanctuary provided full inclusive taxi service to and from hotel + water, watermelon and pineapple + photos, feeding and washing 🧼 of the elephants over ~2 hours for 60USD/person. The staff was soooo cool and friendly! I wanted to stay and get a job 😂 This was so worth it! I highly recommend seeing these beautiful and friendly animals for your soul!
