Kwai Chai Hong, A Trip Back in Time
#getgoing2025
Located at the back of Petaling Street, still in the Chinatown area, this newly revitalized place is a small alley filled with murals and shops. Inside the alley are six murals painted by local artists depicting the daily activities of early Chinese settlers in the area during the 1960s.
Entrance to Kwai Chai Hong might be a little bit tricky. Do you think you can find the hidden entrance of this place?

🇲🇾Kwai Chai Hong
#weekendgetaways
Kwai Chai Hong is a charming alley with murals that depict traditional times that were nostalgic. It feels very different to visit it in the day and night. I prefer to visit Kwai Chai Hong at night as the lights are on and there are many hidden bars starting to open.

Kwai Chai Hong goes Drama Queen for Mid Autumn
#100waysoftravel
Kwai Chai Hong’s latest Mid-Autumn art installation themed the “Drama Queen 月映戲伶”, brings the grandeur and beauty of Chinese Opera to life.
Crossing over the Red Bridge, visitors are welcomed by illuminated “Flower Faces” (花臉) leading to a modern minimalist tunnel structure inspired by a Chinese Opera Doyenne’s headdress.
This showcase formed by three layers of illuminated metallic arch woven together with red threads invites to get “into the mind of a doyenne” as they are encircled with a ring of shiny gems, mysterious mist, and flashing lights.
Kwai Chai Hong is opened daily from 9AM to 12AM in Chinatown KL
The “Drama Queen 月映戲伶” installation is available from 16 August 2024 to 22 September 2024.

Amidst tall buildings, a charming mural street filled with Chinese culture from the 1960s
Kwai chai hong (Mural Alley)
🏮Operating hours: 9 am to midnight
🏮Admission: Free
When you enter the alley with red lights,
you will see the entrance to Kwai Chai Hong.
The word Kwai Chai Hong itself means 'Little Devil's Alley'.
Some say it refers to the mischievous people who once lived on this street, and others say it refers to the drunkards, drug addicts, and gangsters who filled this alley, and that it was called Kwai Chai, and that it meant their den.
Today, it has been renovated and has become an art street that shows Chinatown in the 60s :)
There is a real chair you can sit on in front of the barber's mural, and the pulley basket is real.
The jump rope is not a Korean-style rubber band, but a real rope, so you can take three-dimensional pictures.
All murals have a QR code on the side like this :)
Scan the code to listen to the soundtrack for the mural

U can find Chinese food, Indian Food, Malay Food and many different kinds of food. I also try Lanzhou Ramen at the street. Kwai Chai Hong is full of culture feelings and art decorations. KL trip! ❤️
Stayed at Capri by Fraser at Bukit Bintang.
one of the best hotel I have stayed to date. it was clean and staff were super helpful and courteous.
breakfast spread were also not too bad although it could be better with more varieties.
nice food were also available at Lot 10 Hutong and ICC pudu. both are very near hotel.
KLCC and KL tower had nice views but ticket prices were abit too expensive considering there were only a few observation decks.
there were a few night markets, the night market at SS2 was only opened on Monday, which featured tons of delicious food. definitely worth checking it out if u are in KL on a Monday.
central market was chill, but too much repetitive stalls selling the same things.
petaling st was a disappointment, with overpriced fake tourist goods. nothing much to rave about.
Kwai chai Hong was the most Instagrammable, with many wonderful cafes around it.
overall a satisfying trip, but do remember to bring along umbrellas as it could rain suddenly, and sun is big as well.

You don’t
You don’t have much time in Kuala Lumpur? No need to worry! You can visit all of these places just in one day. From day to night.
First of all you can start from the bustling streets of Bukit Bintang to the charming alleyways of Kwai Chai Hong, my trip to Kuala Lumpur was a colorful adventure. Exploring the vibrant heart of the city, I found myself immersed in the lively energy of its people and culture.
One particular highlight was my visit to BookXcess in RexKL, where I indulged in a literary haven amidst towering shelves of discounted books. Lost in the pages of captivating stories, time seemed to stand still in this book lover's paradise.
Try to take a picture in famous art building in The River of Life. Watching a sun goes down as you sat in Lalaport Rooftop. At night you can strolling across Saloma Bridge, I marveled at the stunning views of Kuala Lumpur's skyline and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers.
I gazed upon Kuala Lumpur's vast expanse, the city's majestic beauty stretching as far as the eye could see. And as the city lights twinkled below, I realized that my journey through Kuala Lumpur had truly captured the essence of a city that harmoniously blends modernity with tradition, creating a captivating tapestry of experiences.
