One of my favourite town while me and my family go around Hunan is definitely Feng Huang Ancient town / Phoenix Ancient town. It’s amazing how an ancient town is so beautiful and unique in the day but also super beautiful during the night and the highlight is definitely the hotel stay. The hotel we stayed this time was super cozy as well as family friendly. It is super clean and also serve pretty good breakfast. Hotel is also walking distance to the bar street in town but tucked in a quiet litte area. Phoenix town (Fenghuang/凤凰) is a small town in Hunan province. We went there on the way to Zhangjiajie Park. It's absolutely stunning after sunset, so you'd better stay for the night there. There are many small cute cafés facing the river and a lot of "photo shops" renting garments and offering photography services. It's small, so a day and night is quite enough (IMHO) In some sources it's said to be a UNESCO heritage site, though I'm not 💯% sure. It's a nice travel spot: if you are in Hunan or north-east Guizhou, don't miss it We got there from Tongren by shared hello taxi (beware of unexpected extra charges) and went to Zhangjiajie by train In peak season (end of July) it may be quite hard to find a didi/hello taxi, so plan accordingly #phoenixtown #fenghuang

Fenghuang Ancient Town (Phoenix Town) is a peaceful town just outside of Zhangjiajie. It can be done within a day if you use the local bus instead of taking a tour. We took a bus from the Zhangjiajie central bus station. Costs 80 RMB per trip and takes around 4h15min to get there. The journey back by bus was quicker, around 3h45min. They have loads of spots to buy snacks and water, and a few Chinese restaurants within the town.
