If you are heading to Hong Kong for shopping you have to check out Causeway bay, one of the busiest shopping spots in the city. No matter what you are looking for you will find it here, from high street brands to exclusive luxury and everything inbetween. The area has often been one of the busiest shopping areas in the world, and righlty so. There are also plenty of little markets in back streets for souveniers, gifts and wholesale clothing. Also keep an eye out for the pharmacy brands, they sell lots of discounted branded skincare and it's often cheaper to stock up here than head to the department stores - the staff are also super helpful in these shops! The forbidden city is one of the most iconic landmarks in Beijing and in China as a whole, an area that helps to highlight the history of this nation and it’s incredible art and culture. It is notoriously hard to get into and China itself isn’t the easiest place to visit, so the Hong Kong Palace museum offers you the chance to experience highlights of the collection in Hong Kong. Opened to celebrate 25 years of the handover of Hong Kong in 2022 this museum is the centerpiece of the new Kowloon cultural district. The building itself is incredibly well constructed and designed, you are able to enter easily and then follow a numbered gallery system to travel through the various exhibits. As you move up the building and move through the galleries you see some of the most beautiful and breathtaking pieces from the forbidden city collection. There are exhibits about the buildings themselves, the furniture and art within along with objects and clothing from the time that help you get a sense of the world around the palace. There are very interesting exhibits on defence and warfare to help you understand the troubles of the time, the Armour and weapons being a personal highlight for me. The building itself is also very impressive, the design is light and airy with lots of exposed views of the city around - there is a viewing platform on the outer areas of the mid floors and gives some of the best uninterpreted views across the harbour at the central districts. Overall this is a fascinating glimpse into one of the most secretive locations in the world, I would highlight recommend it to anyone visiting Hong Kong. The M+ gallery in Kowloon is the centerpiece of the new cultural zone development that is nearning completion in Hong Kong, it will feature many galleries, museums and entertainment areas when completed. It's located beside Kowloon MTR & HSR station and is one of Hong Kong's biggest investments in recent years, aiming to diversift and strengthen the tourist economy. The M+ is without a doubt one of the most impressive art instalations I have visitied and I was really stunned by the scale of the building, the design and aslo the exhibits within. The building is huge but has so much free space so you can cope with the crowds, the rooms are large with high ceilings and there are lots of communal areas to sit down and relax. The galleries fan off from a large central atrium and are all grouped by theme, there are also some stand alone limitied time exhibits that cost extra to view. I got the general admission ticket and spend about 2 hours taking in the standard rooms, and it was totally worth it! A lot of the art can be interpreted at face value, for the more complex moden art pieces there are biliingual descriptions to help you. Entry is around $120, you can buy online in advance or there are ticket machines and a reception as you enter. The building itself is amazing and it has various hidden viewpoints and rest areas to help you take in the city around it. HK is known for its sprawling buildings that that surround Victoria Harbour, one of the best ways to take it all in is crossing the harbour itself. Hong Kong is infamous for it's towering skyline and bustling streets, it really is an iconic concrete jungle. The skyline is ever changing and there are always new landmarks being added to the lineup. One of my favourite places for these icons is Admirality, there is so much history here and such an incredible range of architectural styles - the contrast is stunning. The newest addistion being the HEnderson, one of the most expensive real estate sales in history - and one of the last designs by the late Zaha Hadid. If you want to take in these sights and really get a feel for the urban jungle that Hong Kong has tunred into, there is a great walk from Central to Admiralty with some great view points of the skyline. Start at the Central escalators and head to the very top, when you get there take a left and follow the signs for admiralty. As you come to the end of the first street you start to see the skyline emerge between the buildings and you get some amazing shots of new HK through the older towers in central, the residential buildings frame some of the landmark towers such as the Bank Of America Tower. Then you have some interesting concrete walkways they wind their way over, under and around the roads taking you down to Admiralty. Oil Street Realization has invited Ryo Toyofuku to Hong Kong for his first solo exhibition. Known for his "extraordinary" creative philosophy, Toyofuku specializes in constructing large-scale works that aim to provide audiences with a memorable experience beyond the ordinary. He hopes his creations inspire visitors to bring newfound insights back to their daily lives and approach everyday experiences with fresh perspectives. To prepare for this exhibition, Toyofuku visited Hong Kong to immerse himself in local culture, resulting in two large-scale art installations for Oil Street Realization. The serene and elegant "Golden Tea Room" glimmers with gold and is adorned with Toyofuku's hand-drawn artworks inspired by Hong Kong. The tranquil space, complemented by a garden reminiscent of a Japanese dry landscape, makes the tea room appear like an island amidst the bustling city. Outside the Golden Tea Room, the ground is covered with white gravel, evoking traditional Japanese dry gardens. The tea room becomes a meditative space surrounded by various symbolic elements, serving as a venue for chance encounters and exchanges. The silver walls symbolize reality, while the gold covering the tea room represents the "extraordinary," creating a floating island-like structure that offers a unique and peaceful retreat. Inside the tea room, 213 paintings created by the artist specifically for the exhibition depict scenes from his observations in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, the "Golden Playground" is designed as an "extraordinary" playroom detached from reality. The artist has curated decorations and furnishings from various cultures, incorporating electronic and tabletop games to invite visitors to interact and connect with others in this "otherworldly" space. The room's walls are covered with fabrics featuring diverse patterns and textures, while various decorations and furnishings evoke different cultures and regions. Upon closer inspection, most of the items are sourced from Hong Kong, and the games reflect both Japanese and local characteristics. This space blends cultural elements from different regions, immersing visitors in a multi-dimensional world. The "Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The World of Cézanne and Renoir - Collections of the Musée d'Orangerie and the Musée d'Orsay" currently being held at the Hong Kong Museum of Art is the first exhibition in Hong Kong to feature two French Impressionist masters, Paul. Cezanne and Pierre-Auguste. The large-scale exhibition with Renoir as the theme has been well received by citizens and tourists since its opening on January 17, with more than 130,000 visitors to date. In order to allow more citizens to appreciate France's national treasure-level paintings, the Hong Kong Museum of Art will extend the exhibition period by one week to May 14. Citizens are encouraged to seize the opportunity to visit the Hong Kong Museum of Art. 　　 Renoir was the key figure in promoting the development of French Impressionism. His use of color, light and shadow opened a new era in the history of Western art. Cézanne's painting theory laid the foundation for the style of modern art in the early 20th century, influenced the subsequent development of European painting, and opened the prelude to modern art. This touring exhibition makes Hong Kong its first stop in Asia, showcasing 52 treasures from the renowned Musée d'Orangerie and Musée d'Orsay in France, 51 of which are on display in Hong Kong for the first time. The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and the Shaanxi Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau have collaborated to launch the "Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Unified China - Shaanxi Qin and Han Civilisation Exhibition" at the Hong Kong Museum of History (April 16), which is open to the public. The exhibition displays over 130 sets of selected collections from Shaanxi and cultural relics unearthed in Hong Kong, including the world-famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shihuang and the Underground Army of Emperor Jing of Han, introducing the development of politics, economy, culture, technology and Sino-foreign transportation during the Qin and Han dynasties. Admission to the exhibition is free and it runs until July 7. The exhibition will present more than 100 sets of selected collections from the Museum of Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum, the Museum of Yangling of Emperor Jing of Han and the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology (Shaanxi Archaeological Museum), more than half of which will be exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time. Among the exhibits, there are 11 pieces/sets of national first-class cultural relics, and four of the first-class cultural relics are being exhibited outside the mainland for the first time. The key exhibits include three Qin terracotta warriors, which are national first-class cultural relics and are on display in Hong Kong for the first time. They include the highest-ranking senior military officer figurine unearthed from the Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses Pit, a kneeling figurine presumably playing a musical instrument, and a kneeling archer figurine with red paint still visible on its armor dating back more than 2,000 years. The three Qin terracotta warriors are placed independently in transparent display cases with glass on all four sides in the exhibition hall, allowing visitors to appreciate them carefully from multiple angles. Another highlight is the largest open exhibit in the exhibition - "Bronze Chariot and Horse No. 1" (replica). The original was unearthed from the bronze chariot and horse burial pit in the Qin Shihuang Mausoleum in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, and it truly simulates the shape and structure of an ancient chariot. The exhibition also features a series of Han Dynasty animal pottery figurines unearthed from the Han Yang Tomb in Shaanxi Province, showing the prosperity of livestock breeding in the Han Dynasty. Among them, the Tao goat, Tao wolf-dog and Tao family dog ​​are exhibited outside mainland China for the first time. Other highlights include bronze geese from the Qin Dynasty, pottery coin molds from the Han Dynasty, gold cakes, clothed walking warrior figurines, painted horse-riding figurines and "Long Live the Emperor" tiles. The exhibition also introduces the development of Hong Kong during the Qin and Han dynasties, and displays more than 20 sets of cultural relics unearthed in Hong Kong, including the Han Dynasty "Wu Zhu" copper coins unearthed from So Kwun Wat in Tuen Mun, Sham Wan on Lamma Island and Sham Wan Village in Chek Lap Kok, as well as a pottery house model unearthed from the Lei Cheng Uk Han Tomb. The newly revamped Fanling On Lok Mun Street Playground officially opened on April 12, offering citizens a variety of international-standard extreme sports facilities. The new playground spans over 3,800 square meters, with the extreme sports area covering approximately 1,600 square meters. It features bowl-shaped and street-style facilities suitable for players of different skill levels to practice tricks. Both the bowl-shaped and street-style facilities have been certified by the World Skate Federation, meeting international standards. The site was designed and constructed by the Civil Engineering and Development Department and is managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD). The original On Lok Mun Street Playground was demolished in February 2023 to facilitate the Fanling Bypass (Eastern Section) project. The new playground is located about 150 meters north of the original site, with its entrance on Sha Tau Kok Road, Lung Yeuk Tau section, near the North District Temporary Agricultural Products Wholesale Market. In addition to extreme sports facilities, the playground also provides amenities such as restrooms, changing rooms, shaded areas, and park benches. The playground is open daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The opening hours of the extreme sports area may be adjusted depending on weather conditions. The extreme sports area is closed for regular maintenance on the first and third Monday of each month from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Visitors can reach the playground by taking a minibus to Luen Wo Hui and Mun Street Minibus Terminal, then walking about 10 minutes via the Luen Wo Hui Community Hall, or by taking a bus or minibus to Lung Yeuk Tau and walking about five minutes to the site.
