Tokyo Tales – Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow
#cityplaybook
#familytrip #localguides #postandearn
Tokyo isn't just a city—it’s an experience. A sprawling, electric metropolis where ancient shrines stand peacefully beside futuristic skyscrapers, where silent subway rides contrast with the buzzing chaos of Shibuya Crossing. My time in Tokyo was a sensory adventure that left a lasting imprint on me.
My journey began in Asakusa, where I explored Senso-ji, Tokyo’s oldest temple. The scent of incense filled the air as I walked through the grand Kaminarimon Gate, surrounded by people from all over the world. It was humbling to witness how deeply tradition still pulses through this modern capital.
From there, I dove straight into Tokyo’s vibrant urban life. Shibuya Crossing was everything I imagined—organized chaos that somehow works. I stood on the second floor of a nearby Starbucks just to watch the world move in perfect synchronicity below. A stark contrast awaited in Meiji Shrine, nestled inside a forest near Harajuku, offering a quiet moment to breathe and reflect.
What truly blew my mind, though, was Odaiba, a futuristic entertainment district built on a man-made island. Watching the sun set behind the Rainbow Bridge while the city lights slowly flickered on was pure magic.
The food? Unmatched. From slurping ramen in tiny alleyway shops in Shinjuku to fresh sushi at Tsukiji Outer Market, every bite told a story. Don’t miss the sweet potato ice cream—oddly addictive!

Spiritual Journey Through Time
Located in the vibrant Asakusa district, the Sensō-ji Temple stands as both a spiritual sanctuary and a gateway to Tokyo's rich culinary heritage. This temple, Tokyo’s oldest, is steeped in history and tradition, drawing pilgrims and tourists alike to experience its serene atmosphere.
Beyond the echoing chants and the mesmerizing waft of incense, the temple grounds offer another sensory delight: the tantalizing aromas of street food from Nakamise Street. Our first visit to a standing sushi bar in Tokyo! The fish is super fresh & there were already a lot of people when we came.
The chef will welcome you and all you have to do is to key in your order in the tablet and wait for him to serve you. He will place 2 leaves and ginger on it - right in front of you. You can self-serve with the hot hojicha drink
Have a bag or carrying stuffs? You can place them on the hooks below the table. Amazing atmosphere and services. Recommend this!

Make friends with an owl in this cafe!
Go to the website and make your booking now! This cafe offers the cutest and gangsterist looking owls in Tokyo! We had to be quiet and no sudden shouting or screaming is allowed as it would alarm the rest of the owls.
You can pick an owl after the “briefing” or let the owl choose you. Our’s did. His name is Cowboy. Such a cute baby owl who is turning into his teenage phase i think. Tried to fly away from me even. Haha.
It was definitely an eye opener. They do keep the owls well-fed and give them breaks in between. They even offer a printed photo of you and your owls at the end of your journey.

Magical Theme park to Visit!
The happiest place on Earth? It is definitely one of the places to visit! We took a break in between as it starts ro pour but once we came back, the queue got ALOT shorter and we realized that if you want to avoid the crowd, come when its about to close!
Prepare to wear proper footwear and bring a poncho along as there’s alot of walking and waiting and the poncho is for those wet rides (if its not raining). We were seated at the front for splash mountain and got drenched but we were prepared!

Engage your senses with this interactive arts
I recommend you to come here in the early morning or at the end of the operating hours. Coming here at 11 got me shocked to meet many patrons and this also goes to show that there will be PLENTY of people hoarding the areas.
Yes you are able to take photos but to get a perfect clean shot? It’s abit impossible in my opinion. Is it worth going? I’d say yes but only off peak. So choose your timing wisely.
Prepare to get your feet wet, your eyes in trance and your body experiencing hot and cold weather lol.

MEGA DON QUIJOTE IN SHIBUYA
BRING YOUR LUGGAGE if your buying to fill your luggage! hahahaha ‘cos that’s what we did! And we can park our luggage in the train station’s locker to have lunch and walk around.
Take note that some of the items (if not, most) are quite $$$ compared to other drug stores and hardware stores out in tokyo. So make sure to do your research!
On a side note, best for tourists as there is tax refund! Located up on the 7th floor. DO COME EARLY (before 10am) to avoid the crowd!

Halal Ramen and Gyoza you can’t missed!
KNOW THE SYSTEM - Order via the machine (money in first then press your choice!). After which, pass the ticket stubs to the waiter/waitress and they will show you to your seats.
I had the spicy ramen and gyoza and booms! Sedap siak! Haha. and and and the waiter offered to give us apron as we were both wearing white! How kind is that! Extra points for him being cute 😍
Husband ordered something off menu as he wanted A5 Wagyu with rice (instead of ramen noodles). Initially, he was hesitant to offer but after broken english, he said he can do it at a different price. And husband approved of it!
Recommend to try this! Come come!

Meet Doraemon in Tokyo!
If you’re a fan of Doraemon, I highly you recommend to come and see this! Located just right outside DiverCity Tokyo, you will see Nobita & Shizuka together on a bench and on the other side, you will see Doraemon on a bench! Great place for some photo op 📸 ! There’s also this “puppet show looking curtain” which I did not stay to watch it as I was rushing for time but they are said to be playing “it” every hour of the day from 1000-2300.
In addition, you will also get to purchase merchandise! Omg I went crazy but like any merch, these are not cheap! So standby those moolahs! 💸💸

Title: Tokyo – Where Ancient Spirit Meets Futuristic Energy
#cityplaybook
#aprilblooms #postandearn #localguides #familytrip
Tokyo isn’t just a city—it’s a world of its own. As the capital of Japan, it stands as one of the most dynamic, forward-thinking, yet deeply traditional cities on Earth. From neon-lit skyscrapers to centuries-old temples, Tokyo will surprise you with every step you take.
When I first arrived in Tokyo, I was overwhelmed—in the best way. Stepping out of Shibuya Station into the famous Shibuya Crossing, it felt like I was in a movie. Hundreds of people moved in synchronized chaos. But within minutes, I found myself in a quiet backstreet, sipping matcha in a cozy café. That’s Tokyo: a city of balance.
What mattered most to me was how Tokyo honors its past while racing toward the future. You can spend your morning meditating at Senso-ji Temple in Asakusa, then ride a bullet train or dive into Akihabara's tech wonderland by noon. At night, head to the observatory at Tokyo Skytree and watch the city pulse with light.
Some of my favorite moments were the small ones: the quiet efficiency of Tokyo Metro, the kindness of a local helping me navigate, or the perfectly arranged bento box I grabbed from a station shop. Tokyo’s beauty isn’t always loud—it’s often found in the details.
Best Time to Visit
Tokyo is magical year-round, but the best times are spring (late March to early April) for cherry blossoms, and autumn (October to November) for crisp air and stunning foliage. Summer can be hot and humid, but it also brings vibrant festivals like Sumida River Fireworks.
Helpful Tips
Grab a Suica or Pasmo card for easy travel.
Learn a few basic Japanese phrases—it goes a long way.
Don’t rush—Tokyo rewards curiosity and wandering.

Most Popular UNAGI store in Narita Omotesando Street 🇯🇵
I totally recommend heading down to Narita Omotesando street in Chiba before departing Tokyo, Japan that’s just 1 stop from Narita Airport by train.
You get to immerse yourself in the charming tradition and culture as you walk down the hilly road leading to the famous Naritasan temple.
Apparently this street is famous for unagi (freshwater eel) as there’s plenty of shops selling grilled unagi but this particular store has the longest queue and largest crowd.
You can witness the live eel skilfully slaughtered on one side, grilled with the special kabayaki sauce on the other side of the store.
There’s dine in and takeaway options.
Price starts from ¥2900 for a standard unagi rice box.

Anago specialty restaurant in Tokyo!
Have you tried ANAGO?
Not to be mistaken for its popular cousin UNAGI, which is a freshwater eel, Anago is a Japanese Sea conger eel that’s firmer, lower in fat and calories but nonetheless tasty 😋
ANAGO TAMAI is an anago speciality restaurant in Tokyo serving all things Anago in various styles including a flaming Anago sake too! 🤩
Definitely order their signature hakomeshi, available in 3 sizes. I recommend the medium box, which allows you to savour a mix of simmered and grilled anago. 💯
Enjoy it 3 ways.
1️⃣ Partition the box into 3 to first taste the original soft, fluffiness of the simmered anago and smoky, savoury grilled anago
2️⃣ Garnish the second middle portion with green onion, yuzu, sesame, wasabi and Japanese pepper for different flavours.
3️⃣ Finish it ochazuke style by pouring in the dashi soup (+ 200 Yen)made from grilled anago bones
I also tried the unseasoned grilled anago shirayaki, where you can taste the deliicous natural flavour of the sea eel 😍
Order the anago tamogoyaki wrapped in soft, saovurfy, fluffy omelette and super long, slender Anago Nigiri Sushi cut in half and glazed in their special sweet, savoury sauce 🤤
Anago tamai has 6 stores all over Tokyo and I recommend you check them out.
