The ʻŌahu Stairway to Heaven, also known as the Haʻikū Stairs, is one of the most iconic and breathtaking hikes in Hawaii—though it’s officially closed to the public. Located on the island of Oʻahu, this steep hiking trail consists of approximately 3,922 metal steps that climb along the spine of the Koʻolau mountain range, offering spectacular panoramic views of lush valleys, the coastline, and the island below. The stairway was originally built by the U.S. Navy during World War II to access a radio station at the summit. Why it’s called the “Stairway to Heaven”: Because the trail often rises above the clouds, especially during sunrise, it gives the surreal feeling of climbing into the sky—earning its poetic nickname. #freehotelstay Bom Jesus do Monte is a notable sanctuary and pilgrimage site situated on a hill in the outskirts of Braga, a historic city in northern Portugal. Inscribed in 2019 as a UNESCO world heritage site, the sanctuary is completely accessible to the public and does not charge any entrance fee. The most iconic feature of the sanctuary is the monumental Baroque stairway leading to the Church of Bom Jesus do Monte. We took a taxi which send us to the church directly we so skipped climbing up the 577 steps on the 116-metre stairway. Instead we walked down the stairway after visiting the sanctuary complex. An alternative way to reach the church is by taking the water-powered funicular. A long walk worth the trip. The view up there is amazing. But need to be prepared for climbing and not recommended for strollers. Will be good to spend more time there to walk all the way up! Surprised that even a 4 year old can make the climb up! Peaceful and quiet place. Located just outside the JR Inari Fushimi line. It is very convenient and easy to get there.
