georgetown penang is quite famous of its clan jetty. some of the most popular is Chew Jetty (pic 3-10) and Tan Jetty (pic 1, 2, 11), which is only a few minutes walk from the art street. there is also a parking lot near the jetty costed RM5 per entry. riding a bicycle is highly recommended! There are people living in the houses in the clan jetty, however most of the houses along Chew Jetty were empty, turned into souvenir shops, cafes and also homestay. I highly recommend to get your souvenirs here as the price are cheaper than other attractions, and it is easy to bargain if you buy a lot~ Chew Jetty also offers a boat trip, to see georgetown from the sea. You can buy tour tickets at the shop at the end of the jetty. There is no shops in Tan Jetty however the view is worth the walk (1st and 2nd pic). Last pic is along the way toward Tan Jetty. A small mosque was built for Muslim community, it's proposed to build the mosque out to the sea due to limited land. The construction of the new mosque started in 2003, and cost RM15 million to build. It was first opened to the public in January 2005. It's surrounded by fishing village, sampan boat and open water with blue mountain. It's free entrance, really nice mosque with friendly attendees at the entrance to welcome you in. You're allowed to take picture. For Non-muslims, the attire will be provided in order to cover aurat. Great way to spend a day in historic Georgetown. Get hold of the Street Art Map (available in almost all hotels in Penang) and hit the streets. Some of this murals are really hard to find, so its almost like a treasure hunting expedition. The most famous is the one with a kid on the bicycle that one is a must go. But overall, they are indeed beautiful street art! It's very therapeutic searching & walking down the alley. We decided to stroll around using the bike (gojek) and we had so much fun with it. It made everything better and easier. Can use it while making a vlog or taking a video but beware of your surroundings as the traffics here are so busy. And also if you go a little earlier you might be able to beat the crowds, otherwise you can expect a short wait as everyone takes turns for a photo. The art works are a little faded but they are still there. I hope they get to revive those art works soon so that they can be enjoyed for more years to come #streetart #penangart #penang

#artshunting Entrance fee is affordable at RM20 per adult and totally worth the price. We visited at 10am during a public holiday. The mansion is so large that it is hardly noticeable from the outside. Everything is well maintained and beautiful. In addition, there are many antiques that are meticulously displayed. Excellent example of a typical rich merchants home - full of antiques & access to so many rooms. There are English speaking guides and also mandarin tour at certain times of the day and they are very informative. I enjoyed the central courtyard and the different tiles throughout the premises, as well as the ancestral hall and the paintings. I really appreciate the effort of the current owner to preserve this historical and cultural heritage, and presented to the public. I’m still in awe of how rich the Peranakan culture is. From Armenian Street Heritage to Penang street art, passing to several temples and mosques, it will give you another different perspective of the Penang street art after the dark. For street art, the mural on the wall may not show much difference between day and night; however, wire sculptures and several landmarks and heritage buildings have a significantly different view or perspective between day and night because of the lighting. The other advantages are fewer people compared to the daytime and less sun exposure. However, it would be best to have a good camera to capture the night moments, most of the shops are closed, some parts of the streets are dim or less light, and no people. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a great time in Penang. The old centre of Georgetown is full of sights, sounds and smells which you can take in FOR FREE or for a nominal fee. Start your day at a clan jetty (I’m a 周 so I went to 周 “Chew” Jetty), then go window shopping on Armenian Street, sample all the wonderful local drinks (nutmeg and ambra juice, lemonade with a twist, tiger bites lion “hor ka shi”) before ducking into a temple (or two), or the Peranakan Mansion to cool down. You can walk, Grab and perhaps even take a rickshaw! When evening comes, indulge in some Michelin BG rated food at one of the many hawker joints - McNair, Macalister and Kimberley Streets, whilst taking in the wonderful street art and wall murals. As the evening draws to a close, take a slow walk around Komtar, or chill at a small bar or local pub.
