Pidurangala Rock : An epic Panorama of the Lion Rock
Perched atop Pidurangala Rock, the views are simply breathtaking! 🤩 We just witnessed one of the most iconic sights in Sri Lanka – the majestic Lion Rock (Sigiriya) rising proudly from the lush green jungle. This 360-degree panoramic view is absolutely worth the climb!
Why Pidurangala?
While Lion Rock itself is incredible, climbing Pidurangala gives you that postcard-perfect shot of Sigiriya in its full glory. It's also a more natural and less crowded experience, making it ideal for those seeking a bit of tranquility and an adventurous trek.
The Climb:
The hike is generally considered moderate. The first part involves steps through a temple complex (remember to cover your shoulders and knees – sarongs are often available for rent at the entrance if needed!). The last section requires a bit of scrambling over rocks, which adds to the fun and adventure! It takes about 30-60 minutes to reach the summit, depending on your fitness level.
Best Time to Visit:
* Sunrise! This is the ultimate experience. Watching the sun illuminate Lion Rock and the surrounding landscape in golden hues is truly magical. Aim to start your hike about an hour before sunrise to make sure you're at the top in time.
* Dry Season (December - April): Best for clear skies and less chance of slippery rocks. March is often ideal for photography.
* Avoid midday: The heat and humidity can be intense.
Cost:
The entrance fee for Pidurangala Rock is around LKR 1000 per person for foreigners , which is a donation to the temple. This is significantly cheaper than Sigiriya Rock.
Location & Getting There:
Pidurangala Rock is located just a few kilometers north of Sigiriya town in Sri Lanka's Cultural Triangle.
* From Sigiriya: A tuk-tuk ride is the easiest and quickest option, taking about 10-20 minutes.
* From Dambulla: You can take a local bus to Sigiriya and then a short tuk-tuk. A direct tuk-tuk from Dambulla will take around 40 minutes to an hour.
Tips:
* Wear comfortable walking/hiking shoes with good grip.
* Bring plenty of water! There are no vendors at the top.
* A headlamp or flashlight is essential if you're going for sunrise.
* Be mindful of the monkeys – they can be a bit cheeky!
* Allow at least 2-3 hours for the entire experience (hiking up, enjoying the view, and descending).

Nagasaki's Million-Dollar Night View: Mastering Mount Inasa! ✨🌃
#summervacay
Mount Inasa offers one of the "new world's top three night views," and it's absolutely breathtaking. Here’s how I tackled getting up there and enjoying the spectacle:
Getting There by Cable Car
I took a public bus to the "cable car front station," then walked a short distance to the Fuchi Shrine (Nagasaki Ropeway) Station (淵神社). From there, I hopped on the cable car up to the Mount Inasa Park Observatory.
Ticket Price: A round-trip cable car ticket costs 1,250 JPY.
Operating Hours: The cable car runs from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with departures every 15-20 minutes.
The cable cars themselves are quite large, fitting about 20-30 people per cabin. In the evenings, especially when it's busy, it can get pretty crowded. Luckily, the ride itself only lasts a few minutes. Unless you're lucky enough to be at the very front of the queue, finding a good viewing spot inside the crowded cabin can be a bit of a challenge.
At the Summit: Views and Illuminations
Once I was at the top, I noticed the wind could be quite strong! So, besides enjoying the night view outdoors, there's also a fantastic three-story building at the summit.
Summit Building: The interior of this building is beautifully lit, and the first floor houses a café. You can head up to the upper levels of the building for even more viewing points, which is great if it's too windy or crowded outside.
Special Light-Up: To make the night view even more captivating, there's a special light-up event from 8:00 PM to 9:50 PM. During this time, patterns like hearts and constellations are illuminated within the city lights below. These illuminations happen every 15 minutes and last for about 5 minutes each. The heart shape is easy to spot, but you might need to search a bit for the constellations!
Mount Inasa offers a truly unforgettable evening experience. Just be prepared for potential crowds on the cable car if you're going for the night view!

El Chaltén Viewpoint, a beautiful view of El Chalten, a great place for overseas travel
#Overseas travel
Overseas travel The beautiful town of El Chalten in Argentina, ⭐️El Chaltén Viewpoint⭐️ (City & Fitz Roy) is a place where you can start hiking by crossing a small bridge on the right side of the main entrance of Hotel Lunajuim. It has been private land for a long time, but the hiking course is always open for tourists. You can climb to the top in about 30 minutes, but the last 10 minutes of the hike are very steep and difficult. After the steep and difficult course, you can enjoy a great view. This hiking course, which offers a great view of the town of El Chalten, is also recommended during sunset and sunrise.

The Best View Of Taipei, Elephant Mountain! Free and convenient ( it’s a must do)
Taipei is one of my favourite cities in Asia and this viewpoint is the best way to see this incredible metropolis. It’s a small hike up elephant mountain with various lookouts along the way, to get incredible views of the city and its iconic landmark - Taipei 101.
The climb can be quite steep and it does get quite busy and also very hot during summer! I aim for about 8:30 am as it’s nice and cool, not so busy and the weather is calm. Follow the signs for the peak (it’s the shortest journey) there are longer hikes around the base and the rear of the mountain.
When you get half way there’s a raised viewing area for great views of downtown, when you get higher and pass the famous elephant rocks you can get 360 views of the whole city. Totally worth going all the way up!
I try and aim for a 10am finish as there’s an amazing arabica coffee shop at the base that opens at 10am. There are also public toilets located at the base across the road from the coffee shop.
It’s a known landmark so easy to get to by foot / taxi / bus. Or if you want to take the metro get off at Xianghan and follow the signs ( the last stop on the red line / after Taipei 101)
It’s also incredible at night but very busy! especially around sunset. If you’re in Taipei you must do this!

Breathtaking Views Of The City Of Sails, Mount Eden In Auckland NZ
Mount Eden is an absolute must do if you’re in Auckland, no matter how short your trip is! Auckland has an iconic skyline and this is the best way to see it, especially at night! It is also a very important place for New Zealand and its Māori population, holding a spiritual place in the history of the city.
There are various entrances to the mount but some of them
Close early, around 6PM so if you want to drive check the times ahead. We parked on a nearby street and walked up the Mount, don’t underestimate it it doesn’t look as steep as it is.
Follow the signs to the top and make sure you stay on the paths, going into the hollow / crater of the Mount is very disrespectful to the history and Māori heritage.
The top of the Mount offers 360 views of the city and on a clear night you can see every part of Auckland with the city illuminated in the distance. In the daytime you can also see why the city gets its nickname as the city of sails, there are boats everywhere!
It’s a great spot for photos and there’s lots of space to just relax, but remember to take your trash with you or use the bins provided!

Watch the sunset with a view of Wat Arun at the Public View Point.🌤️✨
For those who enjoy walking and taking photos in Bangkok, watching the beautiful sunset by the Chao Phraya River, and relaxing in a chill atmosphere, I have a place to recommend. It’s easily accessible by MRT at Sanam Chai Station, and that place is Pratu Nokyung Alley. Here, you’ll get to see the view of the Chao Phraya River, the movement of boats, and the highlight of this spot is that it’s a great place to watch the stunning sunset with a view of Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan. It’s also a popular spot for both Thai and international tourists.
🚆How to get there:
Take the MRT to Sanam Chai Station, Exit 1. Once you exit, turn left and walk straight into the alley. Walk to the end of the alley, then turn right, cross the street, and walk towards Sanam Luang. The total walking distance from the MRT to Pratu Nokyung Alley is approximately 500 meters.

🇨🇭 Best viewpoint in Lucerne
The Musegg Wall, a 14th-century landmark in Lucerne, is a must-visit. Located about 15 minutes from Lucerne train station, it sits on a hill, requiring some stair and slope climbing. The 870-meter wall features nine watchtowers, four of which are open to the public for free during non-winter months.
While we visited in winter and couldn't access the wall, a local recommended walking along the outer wall for stunning views. This route offered a panoramic vista of Lucerne, Lake Lucerne, and the Swiss Alps. If visiting in summer, don’t miss climbing the watchtowers for even better views!

Marina Bay Sands, the best viewpoint in Singapore! 🌆
Singapore, despite being a small island country, is second to none in terms of architectural grandeur! Today, we will take everyone to see Marina Bay Sands, a 5-star luxury hotel that stands out with its cutting-edge design. It looks like a ship floating in the sky, placed on top of 3 buildings.
The highlight is the SkyPark on the 57th floor, a rooftop observation deck that is 200 meters high! Here, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city, including Gardens by the Bay, a famous sky garden, Marina Bay, and the CBD skyscrapers that stretch as far as the eye can see.
The most special feature is the world's longest Infinity Pool at this height (for guests staying here only). But even if you're not staying here, coming up to see the view is worth it! The entrance fee to SkyPark is around 26 SGD. We recommend coming in the evening to see both the daytime and the sunset, when the city lights start to shine. It's so beautiful that you have to tell others! 🌇✨

Horkham Viewpoint 🌿
Vang Vieng has multiple viewpoints to enjoy the breathtaking scenery, and one of them is Horkham Viewpoint. The hike to the top isn’t too challenging, it only took me about 20 minutes to reach the summit.
Once I arrived, the panoramic views were absolutely spectacular, and the atmosphere was so peaceful. I went around lunchtime and only saw three other people there, which made it even nicer.
At the top, there’s also an airplane and a unicorn decoration, where you can take nice pictures.
If you’re visiting Vang Vieng and enjoy hiking, I highly recommend Horkham Viewpoint!

The best view of Florence
Florence is without doubt one of Europe’s most beautiful cities home to a staggering proportion of the world’s fine art with the magnificent Duomo at its heart.
Throughout the city, there’s no shortage of places to get that perfect instragram shot, one of which is a little outside the city at the rose and iris garden close to Piazzle Michelangelo. Here you can gain, arguably the best panoramic view of the city watching the Arno River meander around its towering spires.
The gardens themselves are also well worth the visit, especially in late spring when the flower are in full bloom and locals descend on the area during warm evenings.

🇨🇭 007 Walk of Fame @ Schilthorn
Piz Gloria at the summit of Schilthorn got its name from a James Bond novel and is well known as the film location for the 1969 Bond movie "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". In addition to Spy World museum, a new and larger exhibition, called "007 Walk of Fame", was opened in July 2015 on the Schilthorn ridge to pay tribute to the cast and behind-the-scenes contributors to the iconic James Bond movie. The Walk of Fame consists of 15 information panels featuring George Lazenby, who played James Bond in the film, and members of the film crew. Each panel features a photo, signature, handprint in steel and a personal message. Walking on the ridge was quite a challenge especially during winter due to the strong wind and heavy snow. It's definitely worth a walk nonetheless as the ridge is an excellent vantage point for taking in the spectacular alpine scenery.

🇵🇹 One of the best viewpoints on São Miguel Island
In Portuguese, "miradouro" means viewpoint. São Miguel Island is dotted with numerous miradouros, each offering unique perspectives of the island's natural beauty. Among them, Miradouro de Santa Iria stands out as one of the most picturesque and should not be missed if you are in the region. This clifftop viewpoint, located in Porto Formoso in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, overlooks Santa Iria Bay on the island's north coast.
Miradouro de Santa Iria provides spectacular views of the rugged Atlantic coastline. During our visit, it was raining and extremely windy, but we were fortunate enough to have a brief pause in the rain, allowing us to capture stunning photos of the cliffs before the downpour resumed.

🇵🇹 Monument to the Discoveries in Belem, Lisbon
Monument to the Discoveries stands on the northern bank of the Tagus river estuary in Belém, Lisbon. Originally built as a temporary statue in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition, the monument was rebuilt in 1960 to commemorate the 500 years death anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator. The statues of Henry the Navigator and 32 other figures from the history of the Discoveries are erected outside the monument.
The monument is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the history and changing landscape in Lisbon. An adult entrance ticket costs €10.00 which includes access to the viewpoint and museum. To access the viewpoint we had to take the lift to the top floor and from there climb a few flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. This is probably the best place in Lisbon which offers stunning views of the 25 April Bridge which connects the city of Lisbon and Almada. The entrance ticket costs 8€ and allows you to take the lift to the top floor. From there you still have to climb a few flights of stairs to reach the observation deck where the statue of Jesus Christ is built. 🇨🇭 Skyline & Thrill Walk @ Birg
Located 2677 metres above sea level, Birg is one of the intermediate cable car stations from Stechelberg to Schilthorn, one of the summits in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland. Often missed by most visitors who head straight to the summit, Birg is actually the starting point for hikes and the centre of the skiing area for all levels. If you are a thrill seeker like me, you definitely should not miss the Skyline Walk and Thrill Walk in Birg.
The Skyline Walk starts from the sun terrace at Birg. Walk further out and you will be at the observation deck which is an extension of the terrace constructed from steel and reinforced glass with a grated floor. It is a great vantage point to enjoy the alpine scenery.
Those who are physically fit and not afraid of heights can head to the entrance to the Thrill Walk which is at the other side of Skyline Walk. The Thrill Walk involves climbing stairs which lead down into the perpendicular walls of the imposing rock massif. The 200-m walk also features a crawl-through tunnel, glass-bottomed floor and tightrope walking. Don't worry about safety, there is a steel net below the tightrope. 😆
Admission to the Thrill Walk is free of charge.
