Huguang Guild Hall – A Window into Chongqing's Past Visiting the Huguang Guild Hall felt like stepping into a living museum — a place where the architecture, atmosphere, and echoes of the past all tell a story. Nestled in the heart of Chongqing’s old city, this historic complex was originally built in the mid-18th century (1759) during the Qing Dynasty. It served as a meeting place and cultural center for immigrants from the Huguang region (present-day Hubei and Hunan) who had moved to Sichuan during large-scale resettlements. As I wandered through the beautifully preserved courtyards, ancestral halls, opera stages, and stone pathways, I was struck by the intricate wood carvings, colorful roof tiles, and the symmetrical elegance of traditional Chinese architecture. Every detail felt intentional — from the solemn altars honoring ancestors, to the ornate doors that once welcomed merchants, officials, and travelers alike. Standing there, I had a clear view of the Dongshuimen Bridge stretching across the river, with the Yangtze River Ropeway gliding slowly above the water. But, this one is a bit lost in a residential area, serve authentic coffee and the shop is very aesthetics. Chongqing city , 重庆🤎 Really impressive cyber city which you have to put in your itinerary in China ! Here are some places which I recommend in Chongqing city, Part 1 : 1. Shibadi old street (十八梯) - Beautiful streets and nice shops , you can easily spend around 2 hours there.Quiet and charming in the early morning , also much less tourists, becoming more crowded around 10 am. 2. Kuixinglou building (魁星楼) - Building where it feels like that you are on the first floor but in fact you are on 22nd floor and at 8th at the same time. Possible to walk from Shibadi 👆🏼around 20 minutes. 3. Chongqing Luohan temple (罗汉寺）- Absolutely stunning temple not so far from CBD busy district and surprisingly not touristic and crowded at all! Entrance fee is 20¥/person. Highly recommended, one of the most beautiful temples I ever saw. 4. Liziba monorail station (李子坝轻轨站) - To watch how the train goes through the building (every 6-10 minutes). 5. Jiefangbei CBD street (解放碑) - Just to walk around city center , really nice in the evening when the lights are on. 6. Long Men Hao Old Street (龙门浩老街)- Beautiful old streets with nice views on the bridge and river. A lot of small coffee/tea shops and some famous picture spots. Recommending to try «Maque 麻雀» cafe 🍵 7. Hongyadong caves (洪崖洞)- For the best neon lights view in the evening but expect huge crowds around 7:30 pm when lights are on. Also possible to come inside for some famous hot pot dinner or street food. 8. Hot pot 火锅- Try famous Chongqing spicy hot pot 🌶️. Recommending to try Peijie Hot Pot (珮姐老火锅). #discoverchina #chongqing One of our favorite Chongqing experiences was hopping on the Two Rivers Mini Ferry from Hongyadong Pier to Danzishi Pier —for just 15 RMB,it’s the city’s best-kept secret! As locals commuted home, we leaned against the railings, watching the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers merge beneath us, their waters swirling like latte art. The skyline unfolded like a cinematic scroll: Hongyadong’s tiered lights,the neon-spangled bridges, and fog-kissed skyscrapers. To complete the vibe, we snacked on the ferry’s hot popcorn and crispy grilled sausages,slightly greasy, utterly delicious. As the breeze ruffled our hair and the engine hummed, we realized: this unassuming boat ride offered more soul (and better views)than any luxury cruise.
