Japan is definitely one of the most popular destinations at the moment. There’s lots of info on Tokyo’s Disney and Osaka’s Universal Studios… but I’m going to introduce this adventure playground near Tokyo Skytree 🤭 It’s walking distance from the Tokyo Skytree, it’s free, it’s simple and fun. Wanpaku Tengoku is a playground surrounded by wooden fort run by volunteers . The main athletics area have different climbing nets and bridges at a height with stilts and tricycles at the bottom for kids to play with. There is a zipline where kids can hang on from the top of a small hills. My kids got on the trikes and let it sped down from the hills 😂 Basketball loops with different heights are hammered on the trunks. At the entrance is the tooling shop or something, some creative wooden toys are left at the door for kids to play, my kids kept going back to fiddle with a couple of the classic game. Totally missed this one out 😂 We were there before indoor playhouse required vaccine pass (VP) for kids under 12. Having a 10,000 square foot space, Sooper Yoo offers a place to explore, climb, learn and play. There are different areas and sections, the first 2 are my kids’ favourite 1. Scramble Course is a 2-3 level maze with slides, climbers and obstacles along the way 2. Yoozoo Racer is an interactive game where kids run alongside animated animals to test their running speed on track 3. Sooper Slap is a game to test their agility and reaction 4. VR cave is pretty common now, virtual world with games, kids basically just smacking the wall to hit the target There are other like Formula Yoo Sooper Loop (race remote control cars by riding the bike, for kids 130cm and above), Sooper Kix (a VR version of soccer game) and Digi Decks (table games on digital). Kids think: ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Mom thinks: ⭐️ ⭐️ Well, it’s clean and new and fancy but it’s a been there done that thing for us. I highly doubt it’s for age 4 to 17. More likely suitable for age 4 to 8. Although we prefer outdoor activities, I understand there are parents who feel more comfortable and safer being indoors, especially when the adults taking kids to play are grandparents or helpers. Located on the Chinese University Campus, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change is sure to be one of our surprisingly good and worthwhile places to be. Established to raise public awareness of the impact of global warming, hence climate changes. It is divided into four sections: Polar Gallery, Remote Sensing and Environmental monitoring, research and innovation, green gallery. I couldn’t decide which section are kids favourite because they spent equally long at each. The collections at Polar Gallery shows the effects of global warming and climate change resulting ice melting at the poles, where life of polar bears are on the line. The remote sensing and environment monitoring definitely further explain and strengthen the ideas through videos and photos, along with some interactive multimedia presentations of different environmental and climate information. Kids were impressed with the application of geographic information in how the Earth is changing over years. Research and innovation section probably the least attractive one for my kids. And I don’t blame them because it’s sure not something their age ( a 5.5yo and 7yo) would understand. I tried explaining but there’s just too specific and too much for kids to understand the research developments and technology advances in these field. The last section, which is the green gallery, push hard on the idea “environmental efforts require community’s support”. With multimedia interactive exhibits and games, it promotes and aims to have the community get involved in waste reduction, sustainable and live a greener lifestyle. Probably my last one in Malaysia, at least for now until we visit again. It’s a lakeside park that offers not only a big children playground but also a beautiful lotus pond with a covered by big trees track for cycling and jogging. It’s nice and quiet with fields perfect for picnic too! Our focus is on the children’s playground. There are slides at different heights, spring horses, monkey bars, seasaw, swings etc. Kids pretend it was a castle, running from towers and slides while being spotted. There’s a pavilion next to the playground, but not much benches around (only a pavilion with 2 benches). I suppose they assume people would bring a cloth and sat down for picnic 🧺 time. Kids: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ (kids thought it’s 🥵 hot, we were there in the evening ard 4pm) Mom: ❤️ ❤️ (I agreed with kids, it’s hot, and it’s not shaded, no refreshments and not enough resting area for parents/ guardians) Address: Persiaran Semarak Api, Cyber 4, 63000, Cyberjaya, Selangor Enclosed: Not at all, and across the track is the lotus pond, watch out if you have curious kids, they might slips and fall if too close to it. Recently refurbished and reopened in Nov 2021, the children playground is located on the 4th floor at MOKO (next to food court). The playground covers an area of 18,000 feet; with the longest climbing wall and playground equipment 8 metres off ground. There’s a bird theme play equipments with slides of different height and rope climbers right next to the entrance. Big tyre swings behind it with a simple wooden play set in front of the nature theme backdrop. The playground incorporates with the recycling floor mat, charging station promoting renewable and sustainable energy and other green ideas. Suitable for kids 3 upto 12. It is definitely the most happening exhibition in town! Not only among the parents (I don’t know why but most kids seems to have certain level of fascination with dinosaurs) and of course the dinosaur fans. Hong Kong Science Museum is currently showcasing 8 of the most iconic species, including T-Rex 暴龍, Triceratops 三角龍, Spinosaurus 棘龍, Allosaurus 異特龍, Hesperosaurus西龍, Diplodocus 梁龍, Hatzegopteryx 翼龍 and baby sauropod 蜥腳類恐龍. Hence, calling the exhibition, the Big 8. I am surprised and impressed by the amount of original fossil materials and reconstruction of the skeletons dinosaurs. It’s really informative and in a way, quite interactive to attract children’s attention. If you have kids around you, you would’ve heard of Peppa Pig. It’s widespread among parents and children. It’s episodes of story of Peppa, who lives on a hill with Mummy Pig, Daddy Pig and little brother George. Although it’s a very famous cartoon, my kids knew them, we watched a couple of episodes but I decided to stop for a couple of reason. Honestly, I didn’t think kids should watch too much of Peppa Pig or Cocomelon 🫣 Anyway, there’s a Peppa Pig event at Kowloon Bay, it’s called the Happy Day Interactive Play! You must’ve seen blogger/ influencer posting about it. So, here’s the thing, I don’t just sweeten the package; readers know I give honest opinion. And this event, is definitely no go for kids 6 and above. There are different sections; vr interactive running, matching game on screen, slide with a sleight, vr jump into puddles and farm activities, train tracks, trampolines and more. BUT they are designed for toddlers, meaning kids age 1.5 to 5. Found this place for kids to have a full day playtime. It’s a mall with residence on it but it has everything a parent need, free carpark, Starbucks, playhouse, playground, restaurant, pharmacy and Aeon ! Playhouse is Pink Fong’s baby shark theme. You wouldn’t want to miss it if you have kids age 1 and above. It’s indoor but with a glass rooftop so the natural lighting is nice; it’s safely cushioned for fall and bump; different sections and varieties of play equipment for kids to be occupied for hours. Kids favourite place to be! We were back in Malaysia for 5 weeks, and been there 4 times. That’s almost once a week ! One of the reason being? It’s close to grandparents house and it’s cheap (HKD410 for 1 adult 2 kids from 10am to 6pm). It’s a children’s theme park offering immersive career role plays. Kids got to grab some ideas on what’s each job about, what’s really going on in the labour world. They’ve tried basically every job available in Kidzania KL 🫣 Firefighters / police officer/ surgeon/ nursery / paramedics/ housekeeping/ dentist/ florist/ pet groomers/ filter water technician/ fast food chains’ staff/ electricians / painter/ window cleaner/ petrol station worker/ parcels delivery/ actress/ fashion models/ junior animation created/ weather reporter/ news reporter/ chocolate manufacturer/ vitamin laboratory staff/ germs and virus scientists/ pilot/ radio DJ/ on field reporter etc Honestly, it’s so much fun 🤩 I couldn’t help wishing we have something similar back then. Kids got inspired. Understanding each job, no matter how simple and easy it seems to be, need lots of efforts. And they gained experience of the part where you got to work to get paid. Some tips: 1. First thing, go to the Bank. Have kids open a bank account, a bank card will be issued. We deposit all our “money” before starting any job. Kids keep going back to deposit, so we won’t have to hold all the paper monies. This is FREE! But if you’re leaving, withdraw all the monies, kidzania paper money can be used worldwide on other kidzania. 2. Kidzania passport. There are 3 type of passports. Passports are RM3x per kid, and expired when kids are age 17. Passports are to get discounts when spending at kidzania, be it at the souvenir stores or some kids job that requires training payment. Besides, you’ll get extra $2/$4/$6 of salary with a passport. The upgrades of passports are based on stamps collected each time you visit the job (max 1 stamp for the same job per day). I bought tickets via Klook, make sure you registered yourself online before heading over. You don’t need to print out anything for entrance. It’s a hidden bay of Sai Kung, next to Sheung Yiu Trail and close to high island reservoir. It’s special with its half moon shape concrete embankment. Starting point located in Sai Kung Country Park, follow the signs to Pak Tam Chung Nature Trail（北潭涌自然教育徑）/ Sheung Yiu Family Walk （上窯家樂徑）, passing a beautiful lake-like creeks heading to Sheung Yiu Folk Museum and the swamp with mangroves. First stop would be Hei Tsz Wan （起子灣）pier. From there, we spontaneously took an adventure trip, coasteering to the direction of Po Kwu Wan. It’s actually pretty straightforward, just walk along the coastline. We started early on Sunday morning, bump into a handful of people at Po Kwu Wan and few groups at Yuen Ng Fan view point, only a couple of fishermen while coasteering and non when hiking out to Man Yee Road. It’s a small offshore island under Sai Kung District. The only salt pans in Hong Kong, and an island filled with swampy mangroves and Hakka cultural. Former villagers returned to the island to preserves their traditional way of life and way of making salt. We took a trip to Yim Tin Tsai before the “5th wave”. It’s a 15 minutes boat ride from Sai Kung Pier to Yim Tin Tsai. Arriving at 9:30 in the morning, we have plenty of time to explore the island. Hence, decided to take a hike around the island, passing St Joseph Cathedral where the museum dedicated to Hakka life is right next to it, heading uphill to the Twin Pavilion, downhill to a T junction, we stop by Jade-Girdle Bridge that’ connects Yim Tin Tsai island to The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course before returning to the junction and heading back to the pier. Our tickets includes the entrance to cultural museum and salt pans. It’s easy to understand, my k2 boy and p1 girl definitely learn something out of it, and got to see the tools used in old days for real. We traveled with 好姐 at the pier, her booth is close to the restaurant. Charging $70 per adult, $50 for kids age 4-12 and senior age 65 above. There are restaurant and public toilets at the pier. For those who’s interested to visit the Salt & Light Preservation Centre (鹽光保育中心）, take note that they closed on Monday. One of the place highly recommended by our local friends. It’s better than Zoo Negara , they said. At least it’s clean and animals are taken care of, they said. Apparently, the national zoo of Malaysia hasn’t been coping well with covid, and though I felt a tiny bit of guilt for not supporting, it does give me other reasons not, such as it’s inconvenient location, pictures of skinny and seemingly depressing animals sent by others. So, we went to the Farm in the City. It’s a mini zoo at Sri Kembangan, Selangor. There are few hundreds of species. A couple of free flight bird aviary with enclosure; Reptiles cavern to see the python up close; quite a big lake with swans , pelicans, shelduck , koi swimming freely; and the impossible “Longkang” (ditch) fishing with a bucket and net. Visitors are allowed to pet and feed many animals. We pet the geckos, porcupine, rabbit; fed the giant tortoises, raccoons, swan, fish, birds. Among the animals encountered, our favourite is feeding the raccoons. They came up to the log, and took the pallets from kid’s hands with their tiny paws. Surprisingly gentle and adorable. School, playgrounds and many places ordered to be closed, again. Besides the daily zoom classes, we are looking forward for outdoor activities for the benefits of kids. Hence, we went Aberdeen for a short walk again, a morning workout. It’s about 3km and took approx 2 hours (including picnic time). To avoid crowd, we arrived and begin walking since 10am on a Sunday morning. Last month was Karena’s birthday month and she’s invited friends from her kindergarten to celebrate with her. To accommodate 9 kids in total, I’ve choose to held a small party Ryze. Ryze Hong Kong is the largest trampoline park in town. It has over 40 trampolines interconnecting from wall to wall, and there are foam pits and rope swings to work on like ninja trainings... Kids love this place ! We parents do think it is “taking bouncy castles at parties” to a whole new level. Note: 1. Liability waiver to be signed before you go to enhance the check in process. We signed online, and it will stay on file for a year (you don’t have to sign again when you visit during the period) 2. Book in advance to avoid disappointment. Yes you’re allow you walk in, but there’s limited space, and you don’t know if everyone decided to go on the same day 3. This park has many recreational facilities, such as soccer courts, basketball courts and our favourite, children playground. Aside from that, it’s a beautiful park with lakes, man made waterfalls, picnic areas, walking trails and not forgetting the path with cherry trees and maple trees making spring and autumn famous for photography. There are 2 areas of the children playgrounds. One with the classics play equipments such as slides, bridge, bouncy horses, swings. Then right across it, are different equipments laying in different sections while climbing up the stairs. Some are for young children, some are more complicated for advance users. Surprisingly, we find this children’s playground boring. It’s a beautiful park, and there are varieties of playground equipments, but it doesn’t attract my kids to play any longer than 20 mins. I guess it’ll be interesting for young kids age 1-4yo. Shaded: Yes, by tall trees and a pavilion next to the playground with benches Enclosed: No. And Tsing Yi Park is quite a big park, so make sure you look after your kids Stroller: Friendly Toilet: Public toilet near the entrance/ tennis courts, 5 mins from playground Coffees: Grab one from maritime mall before you head to the park. Or just get the bottles one from vending machines. If you live in Hong Kong long enough, you should know that Hong Kong was once famous of its airport at Kai Tak. The one right next to residential areas, where plane literally just fly right above buildings. After it moved to Lantau Island, Kai Tak became just another residential area. Anyway, few weeks ago, I took kids to this playground, it’s in between housings, on a huge platform, pretty sure it’s public area as there isn’t any sign saying other wise. As I expected, K and D love it ! There are 2 section, I call one the airport and another one the airplane. At airport, you see settings for check in counters, departure gate, duty free shop, coffee shop etc, and a simple playground equipment with slide. 🌈 I’ve heard good things about Kidztech for a while. Finally understand why friends have been recommending; it’s spacious, clean and tidy, spectacular view, varieties in type of play equipment for young children. Personally love the crowd control. I book the first session on Sunday, which is 9-11am via their booking system and I do think it’s not crowded like many other indoor playground. We arrived 5 mins before our session, filled in the covid forms, make payments for entrance fees, and sanitised before kids running straight to the play area. There’s climbing nets, kids gym equipments, sand pits, slides, animals and vehicles figure setting, costumes etc. K and D spent most of their time at the climbing net and sand pits. It was a cloudy and windy weekend, we went to a private campsite “Hong Kong Pedal Powered Kayak Association” at Ting Kok Tsuen. It’s convenient for family or first time camper where there’s : Carpark 🚗 Toilet 🚻 Shower 🚿 (hot/cold water) BBQ stoves for rentals Table and chairs Drinks for sales We enjoyed our time together with a couple of friends, our camping buddies. The crowd control is good ! Plenty of space between campers, and a huge area for kids to run around and play with each other. Most impressed by their effort in putting leave no trace in action. The cleaning / washing system is clever; and gathering all trash and bring it out to the carpark (don’t leave it at the campsite) near entrance of the village, these makes the campsite clean and odour free. It’s quite a relaxing but fun weekend. We had a birthday party 🥳, water guns fights 💦🔫, flying kites 🪁 and splashing stones in water by the mangrove forest 🌳 . If you have extra time to spend, which we are planning for our next visit, do rent their kayaks 🛶(they have pedal powered kayak too! ) or join their kayak course. Finally having some time to share this special route we took after Cheung Po Tsai Cave. It’s a one way to Cheung Po Tsai Cave and back, so you could go to the cave first, then take another route back. After the cave, walk back the way you came, until you see a stairs (right opposite of the stalls where people put down “stuff” for sale) on your right, quite steep down. It’ll lead the way to a walking path right behind of Sai Yuen Adventure Camp. When it’s low tide, you could keep walking, across Po Yue Wan and head up to the direction of Reclining Rock. From here, it’s pavements all the way along Cheung Chau Family Walk. At the junction near Pak Tso Wan, take left turn and continue walking back to the town. Distance: probably 3km Duration: less than 1.5 hours inc photo time Scenic: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ of 5 Difficulty: 2 out of 5 It’s a short and easy walk, toddler can definitely walk their way without having to carry at all. We have a 2.5 year old amateur walker with us, and still managed to finish the route in less than 1.5 hours. How to get to the starting point: After arriving at Cheung Chau Pier, you have 3 options~ 1. Take the boat at the pier next to the Ferry Pier, tell them you’re heading to Sai Wan 西灣. Your hike begins right next to the Sai Wan Pier. 2. Take a walk heading to Sai Wan direction, which is on your right once you are out from the pier. It’s approximately 20-25 minutes walk. 3. Rent a tricycle or something, lock it at the Sai Wan Pier or somewhere there and pick up when you’re done, cycle back to return your bike. Look out for Fairy’s Door Mysterious and magical “fairy’s doors” have popped up along Sir Cecil’s Ride Stream ! This is definitely some kind of treasures hunting for kids. Seeing them each holding a list of “fairy’s doors” that could be found, seeking up and down the bushes. I don’t know who started these game, but whoever putting these doors up, they are definitely putting smiles on faces too. Thank you! Sir Cecil’s trail is pretty easy, but it is not paved, so I wouldn’t recommend stroller. It’s all flat thought with sands, rocks and roots kids might tripped. When you’re at the rocky bridge with the big “Tai Tam Country Park Quarry Bay Extension”, take the stairs right next to the signboard, up to the shallow pool. But if you are up for a slightly challenging route, head up to the deep pool by taking the stairs next to the shelter. Watch out for the rocks, some of them might be a little shaky. Go all the way up, you’ll be at the deep pool in no time.
