Tossa de Mar is one of the most picturesque towns on the Costa Brava, where medieval charm meets Mediterranean beauty. Famous for its Vila Vella — the only preserved fortified old town on the Catalan coast — Tossa enchants visitors with its narrow cobbled streets, ancient towers, and golden beaches. Crystal-clear waters, surrounding pine-covered hills, and seaside restaurants make it a perfect destination for history lovers and sun seekers alike.

Tossa de Mar: Spain’s Coastal Baddie in Disguise
If the Costa Brava had a hot mysterious cousin who low-key slays without even trying—it’s Tossa de Mar. This seaside stunner gives “vacation romance meets medieval fantasy” energy, and I’m here for all of it.
Picture this: a golden beach hugged by a medieval castle straight out of a fairy tale, with the salty sea breeze tossing your hair like you’re the main character in a Mediterranean rom-com. The Vila Vella (old town) is giving “Pinterest-core,” with cobblestone alleys, bougainvillaea exploding everywhere, and secret little tapas spots that serve food so good you’ll straight-up moan.
The water? Crystal clear. The vibe? Chill but make it sexy. The crowd? European hotties and artsy beach babes who all somehow look like they belong in a Zara ad.
It’s less “party hard” and more “sip sangria on a terrace while locking eyes with a sun-kissed stranger.” Oh, and the views from the top of the castle? Enough to make your ex weep.
Basically, Tossa de Mar is for the girlies (and gents) who want to romanticize their life without the Ibiza chaos. It’s classy. It’s flirty. It’s giving soft luxury.

💙Half-day tour of Tossa town|Slow-paced life by the Mediterranean Sea🏖️
"Half a day is enough to fall in love with Tosa - the rhythm here is slow that even the sea breeze is too lazy to urge." 🌊🕰️🇪🇸⛱️
**Brief itinerary📝
Morning🔛
10:30 Take a bus from Barcelona North Station and arrive in Tosa at about 12:00;
Stroll along the stone road to the old town, through the city wall "dog cave" stone path📷, overlooking the blue Mediterranean from a high observation deck, excellent photo effect📸
** Midday exploration 🍽️
After taking the photo at 14:00, I followed the aroma of grilled seafood and found La Placeta restaurant. I recommend trying the squid ink seafood rice (the most delicious I have eaten in Spain). It's really delicious🤤
**Afternoon emptying 🌊
After lunch visit Platja Gran beach and choose a flat reef for a sit-in. Watching the waves lapping the shore, the shadows of the sails, and the occasional seagull skimming the water, thoroughly let your thoughts go.
** A little blessing before the return journey 🫧
16:30 Return to the main street of the town, buy a ball of gelato at Gelateria, and browse the craft shop while eating. 17:00 Take the bus back to Barcelona on time, the drive is good for a break.
**Practical tips💡
- **Dog Hole Location**: Search "Municipal Museum" on the map.
- **Bus Selection**: Select the right seat on the return trip to enjoy the sunset on the coast.
- **Leisure Tips**: The town is not big, no need to deliberately rush the attractions, walk and go at your heart is the most comfortable.

Costa Brava with friends 🗺️
#grouptravel
Just got back from an epic trip to Costa Brava with friends, and I can’t recommend it enough! We stayed in a cute Airbnb near Tossa de Mar, a medieval town with narrow streets and a stunning beach. No entrance fee to visit the old town, which has breathtaking views of the coastline, especially from the castle. We spent our days lounging on the beach and exploring nearby coves like Cala Pola—definitely worth the short hike!
The nightlife in Lloret de Mar is super fun if you’re looking for bars and clubs, just a 15-minute drive away. For something a bit more laid-back, we loved stopping by the small coastal towns like Begur and Cadaqués. Cadaqués, in particular, was a gem—quiet, artsy, and great for seafood dinners with a view.
Renting a car is a must to explore the region, and it’s so worth it for the hidden spots you’ll find along the way. Every beach was like something out of a postcard, with crystal-clear water and rocky cliffs. Can’t wait to go back!

Leave Tossa de Mar and head to Casa Milà in Barcelona, one of the representative works of the famous architect Gaudi. 🇪🇸 Is Tossa De Mar Worth Visiting?…Definitely Yes!!
#europetrip
Tossa de Mar is one of the mandatory stop for those who visit Barcelona in my opinion. It just take a one and a half hour bus ride from Barcelona to reach Tossa de Mar. The beach in Tossa de Mar is extraordinarily beautiful. As in all the Costa Brava, the water is clear, calm and blue. There are also fortified castle and walls which meander around the small village inside. It's very relaxing to take a stroll in this village and explore the little shops in the area.

Tosademar, a place that many Koreans don't know about
Have you heard of Tossa de Mar? Those who have been to Barcelona may know, and many who have been there may not know..! It is quite well-known to Koreans as a tourist destination near Barcelona and as a filming location for the drama Legend of the Blue Sea. Tossa de Mar is where the medieval castle town used to be, and its history and relics still remain intact to this day. I highly recommend a course where you can walk around the castle walls and go to Tossa Beach to enjoy a quick swim. 🥰 The sea seen from the castle walls was so clear and pretty that I wanted to jump right in. 💙 In addition to Tossa Beach, there are many beautiful coasts everywhere, so if you want to go somewhere quiet, I think it would be a good idea to find a quiet place and enjoy your time. ☺️
** Barcelona Tossa de Mar
You can get to Tossa de Mar from Barcelona by bus or train, but the easiest way is to take a bus from Barcelona North Bus Terminal. It's not too far, about 1 hour and 20 minutes👍🏻

[Tosa de Mar with a beautiful sea and castle🌊]
This is another resort town near Barcelona, Tossa de Mar. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes by bus from Barcelona Signa, and as expected, the town is small enough to tour in a day. And following Sitges, this place was also a filming location for the drama Legend of the Blue Sea, where Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun ran away on bicycles! While watching the drama, I noticed that the castle walls were so pretty with a medieval feel and the stone walls were so pretty that I decided to visit this place first when planning a trip to Barcelona! 😍
As a tmi, Tossa de Mar means dry sea! I heard that many Europeans also come to Tossa de Mar to enjoy a vacation. When I visited in 2018, many people knew about Sitges, but it seemed like they didn't know about Tossa de Mar. I personally liked the atmosphere of Tossa de Mar better than Sitges. The castle walls were pretty, the view was pretty, and the sea water was much clearer and prettier. That's probably why I enjoyed swimming so much!! As expected, there were some free-spirited Europeans who were running around naked even though it wasn't a nude beach ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Next time, I definitely want to stay in Tossa de Mar for more than 2 nights and relax ☺️

Best preserved medieval seaside town
Tossa de Mar is a charming seaside town famous for its hot, sunny weather and long sandy beaches, it offers rich cultural heritage as an added bonus. Fishing continues to play an important role in the town’s economy although tourism is growing.
Picturesque Tossa de Mar can trace its history back over 2,000 years and, today, the ramparts, towers and cobbled streets of its historic Old Town continue to impress visitors.
The key centre piece is the Tossa De Mar Castle right in the town centre and next to the beach. Lovely to spend walking up the castle and looking down to the sea during sunset.
