Guilin, Longji Terraces and Yangshuo
Yangshuo, the Longji Rice Terraces and Guilin in the Guangxi region are three beautiful spots to visit while travelling in China 🇨🇳 I think.
- #yangshuo County is a really pretty area just an hour away from Guilin by train. Everything is beautiful here, mountains (never ending ‘Karst’ mountains I learned here), #liriver, caves and super nice food (including Li River snails 🐌).
- The #longjiriceterraces are also impressive. Built around 650 years ago, they are nested among tiny villages just about two hours driving from Guilin. My western eyes never seen anything like that, ever.
- #guilin is also really pretty with its Li River, mountains, the iconic Elephant Trunk Hill and caves as well. Plus I really like the lakes where the Sun and Moon pagodas are. I also found a really decent pizza 🍕 to eat here.
Anyway, the #guangxi region did not disappoint at all 🤩🤩🤩
Guangxi’s Best-Kept Secret: Tiandeng’s Secret Karst Landscapes
#guangxi #mountains #sunset #china #chongzuo #tiandeng
In Guangxi’s Tiandeng County you’ll find beautiful countryside with jagged limestone mountains, golden rice fields, and valleys covered in mist. During the day, the mountains look huge and impressive. At sunset, they turn golden under the colorful sky. For the best photos, follow the walking paths through the farmland—you’ll see amazing views of green fields and rocky cliffs!
Mornings here are magical. Thick fog hangs over the hills, making everything look soft and dreamy. Walk around to explore quiet trails, small streams, and traditional villages where local farmers live. Visit in spring (April-May) to see bright green rice fields, or in autumn (September-October) when everything turns golden for harvest.
If you love peaceful nature without big crowds, Tiandeng is a great Guangxi choice!

Night Photography at the Cloud Restaurant
Situated between the Lijiang River on the east and Taohua River on the southwest, the heart of Guilin City is wedged amongst the Ronghu Lake, Shanhu Lake, Guihu Lake and Longhu Lake, with its signature karst peaks as the backdrop to the cityscape.
The Shanhu and Ronghu Lakes were artificial lakes with a history dated to the early Tang dynasty (621 A.D.), when the military strategist Li Jing had scored military advantage in the southern China area, including this part of now-Guangxi Province. In establishing the ancient South Gate (Gunanmen) in Guilin, Li Jing also constructed moats for the ancient fortification. The moats fell into disuse during their long history. They eventually became the lake area that is today.
Standing in the Shanhu Lake are two beautiful towers, the Sun Tower and the Moon Tower, that are lit up at night. The Sun Tower glimmers in gold, while the Moon Tower glistens in silver.
I did not want to spend more than 200 RMB on a cruise tour to see the two rivers and four lakes area. The main reason being that we were quite tired from the days’ travelling already. The enjoyment of a 1.5 hour boat ride, of which there are a few to do in Yangshuo and Xingping as well, would be diminished.
But it doesn’t do justice to a trip to Guilin if we hadn’t seen its proudest scenery. I figured then that I could visit a restaurant with views for our last dinner in Guilin. I found the Cloud Restaurant.
The Cloud Restaurant, in Chinese Yuanduan, is located at the Lijiang Poyin Hotel. I chose it because of the views that it offers. The restaurant overlooks the Shanhu Lake, and the Sun and Moon towers are clearly in sight. They were very beautiful that evening. What came as a super pleasant surprise was how good the food was. The restaurant serves a “new” kind of Chinese food, with creative presentation and wonderful flavors, but certainly not compromising on the traditional strengths of Chinese cuisine. You may dine by the lake views as al fresco dining is available at the balcony.

Helen Yu (Chestnut Journal) The Serene Beauty of Mingshi Pastoral Guangxi 🌿✨
Guangxi, 明仕田园 (Mingshi Pastoral) felt like stepping into a traditional Chinese painting. 🎨🏞️ As I wandered along the peaceful riverbanks, the towering karst mountains ⛰️ reflected perfectly in the calm waters, creating an almost surreal atmosphere. The misty sky ☁️ only added to the landscape's poetic charm, making every moment feel like a dream.
One of my favorite experiences was dressing in the intricate traditional attire 苗族 the local ethnic groups. 👘✨ The silver headpieces and embroidered patterns were mesmerizing, giving me a deeper appreciation for the region’s rich culture. .

Taiping Mansion Guangxi (太平府): A journey through time and lights
Taiping Mansion in Guangxi is a stunning water city steeped in history. It feels like a passage through time, where ancient charm meets modern vibrance. The town transforms into a mesmerizing scene at night, with illuminated bridges, grand city gates, and traditional boats gliding through shimmering waters, reflecting the golden glow of the ancient-style architecture.
Drifting along the river on a small boat, I was captivated by the intricate details of the wooden pavilions, the soft glow of red lanterns, and the lively atmosphere of the night market. The blend of old and new, tradition and innovatio. History whispers through every stone, bridge, and ripple in the water.#discoverchina

Pengdong Village: A forgotten treasure of time
Peng Dong Village (鹏垌村) is a hidden gem that transports visitors back to the Ming Dynasty 500 years ago. Walking through its ancient alleyways, I felt a deep connection to the past, as if whispers from generations lingered in the air. The village’s well-preserved architecture, adorned with intricate carvings and traditional red lanterns, tells the stories of a bygone era.
Every step revealed a piece of history—the weathered brick walls, the delicate calligraphy on door couplets, and the serene courtyards where time seemed to stand still. The scent of blooming flowers and the faint aroma of aged wood added to the village’s timeless charm. What struck me most was the harmony between history and nature, with lush greenery embracing the ancient structures, as if the village had become one with the land.
Peng Dong Village is not just a destination; it is an experience, a journey through time that reminds us of the beauty of tradition and the stories that shape our present.#discoverchina

Duqiao Mountain in Guangxi. The Hidden Paradise
Stunning landscapes of Guangxi, Duqiao Mountain (都桥山) is a hidden gem, a peaceful escape from the bustling city life. I was captivated by the fresh mountain air, the lush greenery stretching as far as the eye could see, and the tranquility that filled the surroundings. The gentle hiking trails made every step feel like a journey into nature’s embrace.
One of the most unforgettable moments of my trip was our first-ever glass bridge crossing. My heart was pounded with excitement and fear. The transparent floor made it feel as if I were walking on air. But as I steadied myself and took in the panoramic view of the mountains and valleys below, the initial fear transformed into exhilaration. The experience was thrilling and breathtaking—a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty.
Whether standing at the mountain peak, watching the mist roll over the valleys, or conquering fears on the glass bridge, Duqiao Mountain offers an unforgettable experience.#discoverchina

First Impressions of Beautiful Huangyao at the Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel
I was staying at the Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel (Mojia Dayuan, meaning the mansion of the Mo’s). It lies on the southern edge of the ancient town. At this location, the three sub-streams of the Yao river converge.
The Dayuan Culture Theme Hotel is an antique building itself. Originally the building belonged to the Mo clan. In the old times, the villagers referred to it as Xianshan Study. During the times of New China, the government had used the building as a warehouse storage for food. The house was built in the traditional style of siheyuan, which was a very popular building format, particularly in Beijing, for the thousands of years. Buildings are built on all four sides of a courtyard. This format was usually built to give home to large multigenerational households.
The building’s foundation was made of bluestones (limestones) and it took five years just to lay the foundation. In 2008, the government handed this building back to the Mo’s. In 2015, after careful restoration efforts, which included the fitting of materials that mimic an “aged look,” the hotel opened its doors to visitors.

A Quaint and Understated Ancient Town — Huangyao, Guangxi
A leisurely walk within the ancient town of Huangyao will take some three hours or so. The storefronts were all well-kept and the walk was pleasant with many photogenic spots.
Huangyao has had a history of over one thousand years. The town came into being during the Kaibao Period of the Song Dynasty. The ancient town went through a period of expansion during the Ming Dynasty, and it thrived during the Qing Dynasty. Because the villagers that live there mostly had the surname of Huang and Yao, this ancient town became known as Huangyao.
This cobblestoned part of the town is very picturesque. Set against the famous karst peaks of Guilin, Huangyao breathed antiquity amidst a serene nature. Along comes a sense of self-assuredness over its own historic beauty.
The closest town to Huangyao is Hezbou in Guangxi. To go there, I highly recommend hiring a driver. It took hours for me to get there by the public bus.

Yangshuo's scenery is like a painting ✨️
The mountain and river scenery at Guilin is elegant and breathtaking, like it came out of an ink painting. 🖼
A cruise down the Li River to Yangshuo is a must-try, and riding a bamboo raft down the Yulong River is so exciting! 🥰
There are many places to catch the gorgeous scenery; the views of the karst mountains are truly magnificent. ⛰️

Golden Hues of Autumn: Exploring Longji Rice Terraces
#chinatrip #guangxi
Visiting Longji Rice Terraces in early autumn was an unforgettable experience, as the mountains were partially painted with golden hues from the ripening rice fields. The contrast between the golden terraces and the lush green patches created a breathtaking mosaic across the hillsides. We thoroughly enjoyed the climb along the winding paths that wove through the rice paddies, taking in the stunning views at every turn. The fresh mountain air and peaceful atmosphere made the effort worthwhile, and seeing the local farmers working in the fields added a sense of authenticity to the scene. It was a perfect time to witness the beauty of nature and the harmony between people and the land.
Huangyao Ancient Town: A Timeless Beauty in the Heart of Guangxi
#chinatrip #guangxi
Huangyao Ancient Town is a hidden gem nestled in Guangxi, with a history dating back over 1,000 years to the Song Dynasty. This charming town, surrounded by karst mountains and winding rivers, is known for its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture. As we wandered through its cobblestone streets, we were captivated by the town’s timeless beauty—ancient stone houses, elegant pavilions, and arched bridges all seemed to whisper stories of the past. The tranquil atmosphere, combined with lush greenery and traditional Chinese calligraphy adorning the walls, gave the town a poetic charm that we couldn’t resist. Strolling along the small canals and crossing the stone bridges made us feel like we had stepped into a living painting. It’s a place where history, culture, and natural beauty come together seamlessly, making us fall deeply in love with this peaceful and enchanting town.
Exploring the Beauty of Longji Rice Terraces
Visiting the Longji Rice Terraces was amazing! The views were incredible—green fields stretching across the mountains. It felt like something out of a movie. I went in the summer, and seeing the rice growing everywhere was really cool.
The hike up to the top wasn’t too hard, but it’s steep, so make sure to wear good shoes. The little villages around the terraces were super cute, and it was nice seeing locals working the land in old ways.
A tip: the weather can change fast, so bring a light jacket. Also, go early or late to avoid the crowds and get the best photos. It’s a peaceful place that’s definitely worth the trip!

Xingpingzhen - super cute ancient town
#guangxi #historicallandmarks #Xingpingzhen #20yuannote
This little town is halfway between Guilin and Yangshuo. One time I stayed here and the another time I caught a 50 minute didi up from Yangshuo where I was staying. It has a lovely feel to it, with a cute ancient pedestrian street, cafes, a mountain (Laozhaishan) to hike up, and the famous 20 Yuan note view of the Li River. There are other activities like bamboo rafting and visiting a nearby cave.
Laozhaishan - bird’s eye view of 20 yuan note
#myhiddengems #laozhaishan #guangxi
This lookout is free to enter from the southern end of the pier area of the old town of Xingpingzhen (about an hour drive north of Yangshuo), but the cost of the view is walking straight up over 1000 steps and 300m elevation. Take your time - it is a physical exertion!! The prize is worth it - you reach the top and see stunning 360 degree views over the area. This was a highlight for me in my time in Guangxi.
1st time Nanning
During my first time travel to historic Nanning, I was captivated by the city's rich cultural tapestry. I strolled through the bustling Three Streets and Two Alleys, admiring the vibrant mix of traditional architecture and modern shops. Later, I wandered along the Tingzi Wharf, watching as boats glided across the serene waters. At the Ethnic Relics Garden, I immersed myself in the fascinating displays showcasing Guangxi's diverse minority cultures. As evening fell, I explored the lively Yiyuan Road Night Market, savoring the aromatic Guangxi-style noodles and refreshing milk tea that the region is renowned for. Through this journey back in time, I gained a deeper appreciation for Nanning's enduring heritage and the timeless flavors that have defined this unique corner of China.#nanning #guangxi #china #travel

Fabulous Yangshuo!! 📸🌿
If there’s one place you visit during your time in China it should be Yangshuo in Guangxi province. I’ve been there twice and it’s definitely worth it.
This time, I chose to stay in a small family run hotel about 4km outside of the main town. it’s closer to nature and away from the crowds. Yangshuo town is chaotic so I’d recommend avoiding there. There are tons of really nice hotels dotted around the countryside. You will be able to rent scooters for getting around conveniently.
Similarly when it comes to food, don’t eat in the town. Look for somewhere more local. You won’t be disappointed.
When it comes to sightseeing, my favorite part was driving my scooter around the countryside and stopping off at my own leisure. I found it super relaxing and chill.
One of the big draws to this part of China is the nature and serenity so don’t waste that by joining group tours or hiring a guide.

China’s Flag in the Wind
As we celebrate China’s National Day, let’s embrace the beautiful flag as it blows majestically in the wind!!! And what better place to see the flag fly, than on the Li River!?! Indeed, taking a Li River cruise is the perfect way to see the amazing natural scenery surrounding Guilin. I have taken this trip three times now, and each time I love to capture a dramatic photo of the Chinese flag blowing majestically in the wind. This is also a perfect place to introduce guests from abroad to China. I took a Swedish friend here recently and he loved it.#flagship #China #Nationalpride #guangxi #yangshuo

A Guide to Detian Waterfall, Guangxi
Getting There:
Many people will come from Nanning by bus to get to the Detian Waterfalls. I did a different option, as I was staying in the Mingshi Scenic area and traveling solo. The difficult thing is the transportation: there are not any public buses or even reliable Didi from Mingshi. Best to arrange cars with your hotel (which is what I did) or even rent a car yourself and drive! It’s about a 40 minute drive from Mingshi to the Tourist area where you buy tickets. From there, you’ll take a bus 10 minutes to the waterfall.
Attractions:
1. Detian Falls on the China / Vietnam border in Guangxi. Absolutely stunning! (CNY 115/pp for the entrance fee plus the sightseeing bus)
2. Take a boat ride close to the falls (CNY 30/pp for the bamboo rafting)
3. Ride the “Magic Carpet” up to the Glass Walk for a great view over the whole area. (CNY 68/pp)
4. Enjoy Vietnamese coffee or snacks at the various shops around.
Hotels:
I stayed in the Mingshi scenic area at the Kongshan Xiaozhu Hotel (大新孔山小筑酒店) for 2 days, then stayed at the Mingshi Mountain Hotel for 2 days.
Some people choose to stay close to the Waterfall area, and there are lots of hotels and shops around so it’s also a good choice.
Food & Restaurants:
There are many restaurants, Vietnamese coffee shops, and snack options around the tourist center, the hotel areas, and the Detian Waterfall area itself.
Important notes:
Bring your passport to Detian Waterfall! On the drive there from Mingshi I was stopped at a border security point, and needed to show my passport to the officer (all was fine though). I also needed to show my passport for buying a waterfall ticket - your ID is linked and printed on your ticket. I went to the ticket counter because the mini program on WeChat didn’t support entering a passport. #detian #guangxi #china
Guilin
One afternoon in Guilin
Started our new year road trip from Guilin in Guanxi province on our way to Sichuan. I walked out of the hotel and found a Meituan electrical bike so that I could explore a bit around town. I also hiked up the little Diecai hill to see the city from the cave. around 15 min walk up. and I had to pay 25 rmb as a foreigner but the Chinese don’t have to pay these days.
The mountains that surround the city are stunning to watch, I never get tired of the view. #newyearadventure #guilin #travel #explore #china #guangxi
Historical Guangxi...
Arrive here by private car before or after visiting Goose Spring, a 15-mimute drive away. Jiuzhou is located close to the China-Vietnam border region and therefore is a mixture of both cultures., especially the architectural style of some of the buildings here. Taking a relaxed stroll through the small lanes, you can witness local life and culture, from the distinct language dialect, through the the handicrafts that can be bought here. There are several pretty temples and pavilions inside that are framed with the backdrop of the surrounding hills and small lakes. This is a relatively quiet and peaceful place...but also a welcome stop on a journey to this region.

mountain bliss...
Located around 2 hours drive south of Baise, China's Guangxi province, you will come to one of the most stunning places to visit in a China itself. This is the mountains that run along the China-Vietnam border region and there you will find Goose Spring, hidden away in it's secluded and picturesque wonderland.
Only accessible by private car...once you arrive, a short boat ride up to small river is a good way to begin the visit. This is the opportunity to see the local people and take in the unbelievable scenery that now surrounds you on all sides. Then take a walk past the gardens, pools and water wheels and take a leisurely climb up to the viewing platform overlooking the valley below. Here you can take an unforgettable panorama or the scene in front of you. Climb even higher for a walk along the side of the mountain trail. Any time of year is perfect to come here...even in the winter, the fog provides a mysterious backdrop to the mountains!

Wyndham wind-down 😌
Located next to the river in Baise, this hotel sits on a quiet street and driveway, away from traffic. The hotel has gardens and also the interesting Red Sprit Park is behind the hotel too. There is a shopping mall that is about a 10-minute walk away and has various restaurants and shops. Likewise, all areas of the city are easy to reach, including the train station and the new main shopping area.
The hotel boasts a SPA area that includes a good size swimming pool with good temperature water, gym and games rooms. There are also 2 restaurants-Chinese and Western. Check-in was swift, however the hotel is huge, so rooms can be a good 5-minute walk from the lobby itself.
Rooms are very comfortable and the bed is nice and soft. The bathtub and ahowers are also excellent quality. Overall, a very good hotel and wouldn't hesitate coming back to stay again.

Raidens retirement vacation
Today we discovered Shangri-La in Yangshuo . basically it’s folk authentic park with beautiful scenery .
On the way to this place , my bike died but this fact didn’t stop me . I got the new one and continue my journey.
It looks quite boring from the start , but when you go deep you can acquaint with some local traditions in food , behavior , dressing etc .
Make sure your tickets include boat trip . I didn’t want to take it , but I didn’t regret . During the trip I saw lot of nature views , trees blossom . There are some checkpoints in the way where park stuff dance when they see new boat .
the main thing about boat trip was floating through the cave .
try to find a time and visit this place ☝🏻Enjoy 😇
P.S. for mortal combat fans : don’t forget to buy one of these Raiden’s hats 😄
