There’s lots of info on Tokyo’s Disney and Osaka’s Universal Studios… but I’m going to introduce this adventure playground near Tokyo Skytree 🤭 It’s walking distance from the Tokyo Skytree, it’s free, it’s simple and fun. Wanpaku Tengoku is a playground surrounded by wooden fort run by volunteers . The main athletics area have different climbing nets and bridges at a height with stilts and tricycles at the bottom for kids to play with. There is a zipline where kids can hang on from the top of a small hills. My kids got on the trikes and let it sped down from the hills 😂 Basketball loops with different heights are hammered on the trunks. At the entrance is the tooling shop or something, some creative wooden toys are left at the door for kids to play, my kids kept going back to fiddle with a couple of the classic game. Tsuen Wan Plaza Shopping Centre underwent a huge renovation, upgrading its rooftop playground with a range of new equipment with colourful rainbow theme. Colourful rubber granules flooring are used to create a soft surface providing protection against accidents. The playground is separated into different sections: 1️⃣ Rainbow Sky Tower - The tower is 8 metre height with 3 slides in different directions, 2 of them at 4.8 metres and 3.3 metres above ground. Kids who enjoyed the excitement and not afraid of heights definitely spend more time here. 2️⃣ Climbing Castle - For climbers like my kids, they’ll enjoying finding ways to climb from one to another end of the castle. 3️⃣ Twirling Rope - Climbing on a spinning rope ain’t easy, it takes up some balancing and working on gross motor skills. 4️⃣ Mini Hills - There are few mini hills equipped with stairs, ropes, tubes, slides.. perfect place to play tag if you ask me. Of course, there are areas for younger kids with simpler equipment like the bouncy cloud, musical tubes, baby swings and slides. To avoid crowds, we were there from 1-2:30pm on weekdays. Do you know that the Singapore Zoo has a kids area where you are able to sit the carousel ride, the area for kids to pet bunnies and hamsters and even do feeding of the goats and donkey. I believe kids will enjoy this place, you can hear the many laughter and screams in this area, you are able to also let your kids ride the donkey and see how donkeys are being groomed. Of course, the donkey ride do have an additional charge. There is also a show held in Kidzworld in 2 timings, 1330 and 1600 where it is an animal friendly show on getting to understand the different dog breeds and tricks that they are trained to do. Probably my last one in Malaysia, at least for now until we visit again. It’s a lakeside park that offers not only a big children playground but also a beautiful lotus pond with a covered by big trees track for cycling and jogging. It’s nice and quiet with fields perfect for picnic too! Our focus is on the children’s playground. There are slides at different heights, spring horses, monkey bars, seasaw, swings etc. Kids pretend it was a castle, running from towers and slides while being spotted. There’s a pavilion next to the playground, but not much benches around (only a pavilion with 2 benches). I suppose they assume people would bring a cloth and sat down for picnic 🧺 time. The playground covers an area of 18,000 feet; with the longest climbing wall and playground equipment 8 metres off ground. There’s a bird theme play equipments with slides of different height and rope climbers right next to the entrance. Big tyre swings behind it with a simple wooden play set in front of the nature theme backdrop. The playground incorporates with the recycling floor mat, charging station promoting renewable and sustainable energy and other green ideas. Suitable for kids 3 upto 12. That’s what my kids have been calling Ping Shek Playground （坪石遊樂場) . Located on a top of a hill in Choi Hung, this dinosaur theme playground seems to excite kids, taking them into a world of imagination and adventurous (well, at least that’s how my kids played) . The playground is filled with caves showing archaic wall paintings, dinosaurs bones and fossils, and a castle play. There are swings at the back, slides, bars for climbing and the special one is a holding drops (I’m not sure what is that called officially, it’s like a fireman pole but all you have to do is hold the handle and step on the plate, then let your body weight take you down) . My kids met some other kids, and they began playing catch, then move on to role playing pirates going on adventure, climbing up and down, using the castle as their base, the cave as dungeon to keep prisoners, and sometimes with serious discussion into where to run and hide. Mom think: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Kids think: ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Shade: Not really, unless hiding in the cave Enclosed: No. It’s quite spacious and different exit , so do keep an eye on kids Toilet: Yes, it’s under LCSD, so it’s public toilet but it’s reasonably clean. While everyone is talking about the NEW and quite happening shopping mall playground at MOKO, I took kids to one at Tsz Wan Shan Shopping Centre. It’s another free playground at the shopping mall but this one with quite a big area of water splashing equipments, huge climbing nets and rope climber. There’s a 2-storey slide for user age 7 or 120cm and above. K is at the borderline and was thinking to give it a go, but then she walk away after hearing the other big kid saying it’s steep and too fast 😂 Kids spent most of the time under the shower, jumping in the puddles, then running around with other kids playing catch. We were there for a session, they had fun, but I don’t think it’s worth a second visit. Tips: ✅ bring extra clothes because kids will definitely get wet ✅ wear socks in case you need a grip ✅ shoes off at all area with rubber flooring ✅ there’s locker if you need to store personal items ✅ get tickets to entry at the podium next to escalator opposite of the jewellery shop Shade: We went for the 2.30pm session on a sunny day, but shaded by the building nearby. There’s another playground right next to the school. Quite a classic playground with slides, climbing bars, fireman’s pole, twirling slides. But there are 2 old school’s metal slides in front of the playground, there are stairs at both sides and it’s in between 2 playground (lower one for toddlers and upper one for kids age 5 and above). Cont’d. After spending some time at Wan Chai Gap Park’s playground, we walked across to another playground, sitting right next to the metered parking lots, closer to the Police Museum. Another classic playground with swings at the back, climbing nets and bars, fireman’s pole, twirling slide and a rather steep slide. However, this playground offer something my kids love it so much they spent almost an hour on it - a spinning top with climbing nets! It’s in a shape where the spinning is based on the gyroscopic effect when kids climbing the nets. This is quite a hidden park in between Coombe Road and Mount Cameron Road. It’s so quiet and we have the playground to ourselves most of the time. I was quite surprised to see a food stall selling snacks, hot food and cold beverage. Apparently this park is a refreshment stop for hikers taking the “Wan Chai Gap Road to Aberdeen Country Park” trail. The park is remote and quite on weekday, too quiet that we met a mommy wild boar and her piglets searching for food from the trash cans. Kids were so excited to see the adorable piglets but I have to warn them about getting too close to the wild animals. It’s a proper park, with tables, chairs and benches, the garden is being taken care of and it’s rather clean and peaceful environment. The playground is right next to food stall, with benches around it. A classic playground with swings, tunnels, slides, simple climbing bars and the fireman’s pole. The only special is a short zipline. It’s far too simple, perhaps great fun for kids age 1-5. Definitely not worth it if you have to travel far for it. I knew there’s a children playground just opposite of K11 Musea and on top of MTR station - East Tsim Sha Tsui but haven’t had time to explore that. Then, the opportunity dropped in. The playground have 2 areas where one is for toddlers and the other one is for bigger kids age 5-12 years old. Toddlers area equipped with sensory boards, spring horses, shorter slides, tunnels and simple stairs. My kids love the big one. Why wouldn’t they? The playground is big, and equipped with zipline, climbing racks, rock climbing walls, swings, slides, wobbly bridge, pathways attaching different parts of the playground etc. Furthermore, it’s not just physically fun! This playground is spacious enough for kids to do role playing (the castles and knights and mystical creatures kind of thing), or just run around playing tag ! We arrived shortly after lunch on a sunny weekday, hence the empty playground. Kids spending approx 2 hours at the playground, not wanting to leave even after I told them we have plans that evening. Just 5 mins walk from Ho Man Tin station of MTR Tuen Ma Line, it’s the Ho Man Tin Park, where the children’s playground is right in front of the sport centre. This park is up the hill, behind Oi Man Plaza, across a secondary school. Separate into 2 areas for one is age 2-5 and another 5 and above. In between are benches for resting. This is probably the only playground that’s fully shaded with shading cloth! We were there in the morning , close to 11am and it’s a sunny day, but kids are covered. Play equipment for elder kids includes slides, monkey bars and climbing walls: where it’s easier versions at the younger kids side, with 2 spring horses. My kids spent most time on monkey bars and climbing walls, it’s tad bit boring for them, but we still spend a good 45 mins at the playground 😂 I like that it’s shaded and clean. Discovered another playground along MTR’s Tuen Ma Line! It’s really convenient for moms like me, wanting kids to have some after school’s outdoor time. This playground is right next to the mtr station, in between roads, so parents do keep an eye on kids. The play equipments are standards, with the swing, few slides, steps and ropes for climbing and balancing, and the runaround carousel. Nothing fancy but everything seems clean and new (established in 2020). Although K is in grade 1 (longer time to work on school work and preparations), we try to head out and play just like we used to, or as much as we could ! Especially now when school is still half day. Hence, we head straight to Tai Wai for a playground I longed to go. This is the kind of playground I think the government should built more for each districts. Playground is not just for entertainment or somewhere to wear out kids’ energy. When I told kids we are going to Mouse Island, kids thought we are going to Disneyland, well, I’m not surprise, as they are definitely associate the word Mouse = Mickey Mouse 😂 So, on a Sunday morning when Papa was heading to Tuen Mun for his weekly basketball time, we tagged along, and had him drop us off at Mouse Island 🏝 . Kids LOVE it ! It’s a marine theme playground and the main equipment is in a sailboat shape, there’s lighthouse, decks, compass, telescope. Kids take turns being captain and sailor; playing catch, running up and down. There’s slides, climbing wall, bars, balancing blocks, 2 huge barrels to hang out in it. A little background: Mouse Island Children’s Playground is Hong Kong first environmental friendly playground located in Tuen Mun, next to Siu Lin Court, play equipments and facilities are made of used vehicle tyres, plastic and other wastage. Kids have been going to Faust Drama’s summer theatre in the morning at Sheung Wan. So it make sense to find places to hang out before heading home. Came across this article on the standard mentioning a seasonal summer theme facilities going on at Kennedy Town. To be exact, it’s right at the Belcher Bay Harbour Front. The Belcher Bay Harbour Front is a open space at Shing Sai Road, Kennedy Town. Summer Fun means they placed a giant waterbed (it’s kinda like a bouncy castle but on a waterbed 😅), a couple of kayaks, wooden boat and surfboards with rollers for kids to play with, then the playground equipments with climbing ropes and walls, and most importantly the pallets which kids and myself love most because they gets to be creative, building a maze to run around or some shelters to hide. We were lucky to have a comfortable weather, sunny but not too hot with some scattered clouds, and definitely windy. I don’t know how long will these facilities be around, as it’s “seasonal” , guessing it’ll be there till summer ends. It’s open to public, free of charge.. so, take your kids there! A simple playground at mid levels with lots of kids, parents and helpers. Do look after your young kids even when there’s gates around the playground because there’s big kids, and some kids that just love racing on their scooters across the playground. It’s almost like the play equipments are their obstacles challenge. There’s 2 area of the playground equipments, one for toddlers with slides and activities board; and another for active and older kids with slides, climbing bars, and a long queue for the holding zipline while swings are at the other side of the playground. If you’ve been to Lai Chi Kok Park.. it’s a huge park! Aside from the popular playground near the swimming pool; and the less known one at Meifoo station’s Podium (refer to previous post: https://www.facebook.com/113508473635882/posts/280781416908586/), we found another one after passing Ling Nan Garden, it’s called Lai Chi Kok Park Phase 3 on map. There are 3 areas right next to each other, I like this design because it means less crowded, kids don’t all get stuck at the same place. And each with their specialty: A is a big playground with bridges and runways, 3 slides side by side and monkey bars. B is higher, like a rocket with twirling slide. C with a ship theme with simple slides, balancing tools to walk or hip on (kids pretend walking on the rock in a river where crocodile might jump out) and a rather wide climbing walls. There’s a swing area, right next to C which I didn’t take picture because my kids are too busy running and playing around ABC. They spent most time at C though, with a lot of role playing pirate game and climbing the wall. This park has many recreational facilities, such as soccer courts, basketball courts and our favourite, children playground. Aside from that, it’s a beautiful park with lakes, man made waterfalls, picnic areas, walking trails and not forgetting the path with cherry trees and maple trees making spring and autumn famous for photography. There are 2 areas of the children playgrounds. One with the classics play equipments such as slides, bridge, bouncy horses, swings. Then right across it, are different equipments laying in different sections while climbing up the stairs. Some are for young children, some are more complicated for advance users. Surprisingly, we find this children’s playground boring. It’s a beautiful park, and there are varieties of playground equipments, but it doesn’t attract my kids to play any longer than 20 mins. I guess it’ll be interesting for young kids age 1-4yo. Shaded: Yes, by tall trees and a pavilion next to the playground with benches Enclosed: No. And Tsing Yi Park is quite a big park, so make sure you look after your kids Stroller: Friendly Toilet: Public toilet near the entrance/ tennis courts, 5 mins from playground Coffees: Grab one from maritime mall before you head to the park. Microparks : Yi Pei Square Playground Design Trust Studio initiates the idea of Play is for People, rethink and design public space into micro-parks. One of them, located in Tsuen Wan’s Yi Pei Square opened on 15th April ! It took 3 years to complete. To be honest I am really surprised they’d chosen the location, Yi Pei Square. If you’re familiar with Tsuen Wan, it’s located right behind the Yeung Uk Road Market, surrounded by chinese mansion/ low rise apartments where the ground floor are commercial shops. There are some specials which my kids love, the merry go round with climbing nets, the box and ball climber slides, the tunnels with rubber slopes where kids could just walk up and slide down etc. As much as I like the idea of rebuilding a local community, redesign public space for kids and elderly, this location is just not my ideal hang out space. Shades: the buildings pretty much provide a shade from sunlight but definitely not for rain Toilet: nowhere to be seen Enclosed: no. I have been seeing pictures of a sea of peoples at playgrounds, beaches, theme parks and even hiking trails. So... my advice for anyone hoping to AVOID huge crowd (except theme parks), go early ! Everyone heard of Lai Chi Kok Park. It’s big, and there are a couple of playgrounds or picnic spots in it. But this time, we are not going to playground in the park, instead, we went to the playground on top of Meifoo Mtr Station at the Podium. We arrived the park at 10 in the morning (Saturday), the playground is quite, just a handful of people. It’s a simple but spacious playground, so kids happily running around, playing catch with other children; and hop on to swings, run down the slides, climb the monkey bars, and simply running around the play equipments that are attached together. There’s a fitness area next to the swing. Whole area of the playground is carpeted with rubbers.
