Park Hyatt Saigon: A Golden Age Dream in Ho Chi Minh City 🇻🇳✨
#summervacay
My arrival in Ho Chi Minh City felt like stepping into a dream, specifically a nostalgic one about the 1990s. The 20-minute drive from the airport to the Park Hyatt became a journey through my own imagination. If I could choose any era to revisit, it would definitely be 1995-2000. That period in China, with the successful Olympic bid, the return of Hong Kong, and the looming millennium, felt so full of hope for the future. I remember billboards asking, "What's most important in the 21st century? Talent." It was a time when dreams seemed boundless, limited only by your imagination.
Lost in this reverie, the Didi driver's car played the pure Estonian music of "The Color of Love," pulling me deeper into my thoughts.
Even after staying at many Park Hyatt hotels worldwide, I was still utterly captivated upon arriving at the Park Hyatt Saigon. The lobby was exquisitely grand, and my bedroom, with its distinct French colonial flair, set the perfect tone for my Vietnamese adventure. This hotel truly is a historical gem and a pinnacle of luxury.

Time Warp in Xiamen: A Playdate at the Universe Fun Institute
#springitinerary #discoverchina #xiamen #nostalgia
The moment you push past the neon "Cosmos Fun Institute" sign, reality bends—suddenly it's 1998, 2008, and 2023 all at once. This retro-futuristic playground near Zhongshan Park station isn't just a photo studio; it's a carefully curated nostalgia trip where every corner winks at your childhood memories.
The CD wall shimmers with hundreds of discs (spot the fake Backstreet Boys album that's actually a mirror), while the giant "potato chip" installation—made entirely of real snack bags—will make you crave sour cream flavor.
Staff hand you a basket of props: disposable cameras, Tamagotchis, even a corded telephone that actually rings when your friend dials the rotary. Book the 11 AM slot on weekdays when sunlight slants through the polariod-covered windows, creating the perfect glow for their instant photo service (¥15 gets you a keepsake framed in 90s manga borders).
Pro Tips for Time Travelers:
- **Transport: 4-minute walk from Zhongshan Park Station Exit 3A (look for the building wrapped in a giant cassette tape mural)
- **Timing: Wednesdays at 2 PM = empty rooms + staff free to help style your shots
- **Must-Try: Their "accidental double exposure" service (¥25) blends your face with retro Xiamen postcards
Sweet Escape: A Cool Pause at ManisKL, Hidden in the Heart of Chinatown
#springitinerary #vintage #nostalgia #kuala_lumpur
After wandering through the vivid murals and vintage charm of Kwai Chai Hong, the city’s heat wrapped around us like a second skin—until we stumbled upon ManisKL, and everything changed.
Tucked into a quiet corner at Lot 8, Lorong Panggung, ManisKL isn’t just a café—it’s a refuge for the overheated, the sweet-toothed, and the aesthetically inclined. The first spoonful of chilled dessert melted not just the ice but the tension of a tropical afternoon. Think silky textures, bold local flavors, and plates that arrive like art. Sago gula melaka, cendol tiramisu, and a vibrant mango sago—each dish a love letter to Malaysian heritage with a modern, minimalist soul.
The interiors are cool and calm, soft with terrazzo and wood, an oasis amid KL’s urban pulse. It’s the kind of place you find by accident and return to with intention. Manis doesn’t shout. It simply delivers—on taste, on presentation, on quiet comfort. Reasonably priced and unpretentiously perfect, it’s easily my top dessert stop in Kuala Lumpur. Sometimes, it takes a bit of wandering—and a little sweat—to find something this sweet.
Color of Nostalgia
Wandering around Gubei Water Town is exactly like embarking on a journey into the past. You can see the color of the walls, the roads, the trees, the windows, the doors reflect a time when mom and dad asked you to go home for dinner 30 years ago, when you were still enjoying your life and not having to worry about money.
Gubei Water Town really succeeded in bringing people back to their memory, achieving this even from the attitudes of the local residents who served a cup of hot chocolate.
Sometimes people need to slow down their life and realize that their inner peace can be found when they choose to free their mind from all concerns and life obstacles they have.

Comic City! Your one stop shop for anime!
Comic City is one of my favourite places in Guangzhou. For all those into anime, this is the place for you! Located in Yuexiu district, Comic City can easily be accessed via the Gongyuanqian subway station as it is directly connected.
What to do at Comic City: Located on the top floors are restaurants and clothing shops. It’s easy to find cute accessories especially for costumes, such as bows, rings, headbands and much more. On the lower floors there are tons of anime shops. It’s easy to find tons of anime figurines both domestic and imported, buttons, posters, manga and list goes on and on. When shopping here it’s alright to bargain with the seller to get a better price on what you’re buying.
Comic City is a great place to meet friends for a meal or bubble tea followed by a day of nostalgia finding all your favourite anime memorabilia. Comic City is all located under ground which gives it a very cool vibe. If you go during the week days is less busy and gives you a better chance to get an up and close look at your favourite figurines. In addition, Comic City has a wonderful display area on the lower floor which displays some of the coolest figurines. Comic City is full of character and you will often see people cosplaying as their favourite characters. With so much to look at, it’s hard not to spend the day at Comic City!
How to get there: Take the subway - Line 1 or Line 2. Get off at Gongyuanqian station. The best exits are Exit F and H. Although the whole stop is connected to different entrances of Comic City.
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday (10:00-22:00)

Classic CD shop
Address - That CD Shop, 435 Orchard Road, #02-08/13, Wisma Atria Shopping Centre, Singapore 238877
While I was browsing the shops at Wisma Atria Shopping Centre, I chanced upon this familiar shop from my childhood! If you were a teenager growing up in Singapore in the 2000s, you will definitely remember this classic CD shop.
I love how they have an emphasis on preserving the music traditions of times gone by, like the vinyl and of course, CDs. I spent a good time flipping through golden oldies and it was incredibly nostalgic!
My overall rating of the experience: 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hotpot in a Palace: Dining Like Dynasty at Chang’an Tingyuan
#discoverchina #foodie #nostalgia #shenzen
It’s not every day you step into a hotpot restaurant and feel like you’ve walked straight into a Tang dynasty courtyard.
Chang’an Tingyuan Hotpot (Shenzhen branch) isn’t just one of my favorite hotpot spots in China—it’s an experience. The moment you pass through the carved wooden gates, the city noise fades. Inside, it’s all stone pathways, hanging lanterns, curved rooftops, and slow-dripping charm of ancient China.
The setting is cinematic, but the food? Unapologetically modern and delicious. A bubbling pot arrives, surrounded by beautifully plated meats, handmade shrimp paste, and fresh vegetables. Each bite is comforting, rich, and deeply satisfying—especially when enjoyed in a space that feels more like a heritage site than a restaurant.
Whether you’re gathering with friends or dining solo with a side of nostalgia, Chang’an Tingyuan serves more than hotpot—it serves a moment suspended between past and present, where great taste meets graceful design.
Come hungry, leave warm—inside and out.
The Best Hong Kong Pastries at Happy Cafe
A joint venture of the former Happy Bakery and Shun King Restaurant, Happy Café brought together the best of Hong Kong’s culinary traditions in cha chaan teng meals. Being two in one, Happy Café has doubled down on the idea that 1+1 equals more than 2 when it comes to nostalgia. The business has certainly been met with great success since it reopened in 2023. Both Shun King Restaurant and Happy Café were located in Wan Chai, as next door neighbors, in their former places of business. Both of those two shops had been running since the 1970s. The neighborhood diners were very disappointed about their closures. The two business owners then joined hands in creating the 2 in 1 Happy Café, in an effort to bring back the best that these two eateries offered.
There are many classic Hong Kong pastries on the shelves of Happy Café. At the breakfast hour, there was a queue there for the pastries at the bread counter.
Prominently featured there are the cream cones, then of course the standard pineapple buns. I opted for the red bean donut this morning. It was soft, fluffy, a little savory in the cottony red bean core, and plenty of sweetness with the white sugar coating.
From the menu I sensed a clear effort to carry on with the restaurants’ tradition in offering nostalgic food, as well as to create new variations that are based on their traditional strengths. An innovative item at Happy Café is the pineapple croissant. It is basically a “pineapple crust” coating (there is no pineapple in it) over a croissant, instead of the common bun.
