Ancient city of Herculaneum 🗺️
#ancienttown
Just got back from visiting Herculaneum, and it was absolutely fascinating! 🏛️ This ancient town is often overshadowed by Pompeii, but it’s so well-preserved and much less crowded. The entrance fee was €13, and it’s worth every cent. Walking through the ruins, you can see homes with original wooden beams and even some of the second stories still intact. It feels like you’re stepping back in time, especially when you see the stunning mosaics and frescoes that have survived for centuries. 🎨
One of the highlights was the House of the Deer, with its beautiful courtyard and marble decorations. The bathhouses are also incredibly well-preserved, and you can still see the intricate tile work. 🚿 Unlike Pompeii, Herculaneum was a wealthier town, so the houses are a bit more luxurious, offering a different glimpse into ancient Roman life. The site is smaller and more manageable, so you can explore at a relaxed pace without feeling overwhelmed.
Afterward, I took a short drive to the nearby Naples Archaeological Museum to see even more artifacts from the site. If you’re a history buff or just love exploring ancient ruins, Herculaneum is a must-visit! #trip #Herculaneum #AncientRome #Italy #Archaeology #HiddenGem
The famous Pompeii 🚨
#ancienttown
Just visited Pompeii, and it was absolutely surreal! 🏛️ Walking through this ancient city, you get a real sense of what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. The entrance fee was €18, and I highly recommend getting a guide or an audio tour because there’s so much history to take in. One of the most striking things was seeing the plaster casts of the victims—it’s a chilling reminder of the power of Mount Vesuvius. 🌋
The city is massive, so wear comfortable shoes! I spent hours exploring the ruins, from the Forum and the temples to the amphitheater and the remarkably preserved frescoes in the villas. 🏺 The colors and details in the House of the Faun and Villa of the Mysteries were stunning. If you have time, the nearby Naples Archaeological Museum houses many artifacts from Pompeii and is definitely worth a visit.
It's incredible how well-preserved everything is, and it's easy to lose track of time imagining what daily life was like here. Definitely a must-see if you’re into history! #trip #Pompeii #Italy #AncientHistory #TravelBackInTime #Archaeology
Experience the Prehistoric site of Akrotiri
the akrotiri archaeological site is incredible to witness it is one of greece’s biggest archaeological finds. the site is enclosed in a glass-top building for preservation. it is the ruins from the minoan period believed to be dating back to 4000 bc. it was or have been a huge trading center because a wide variety of artifacts and pottery have been discovered and no bodies was found. the village people took off with their possessions before the city was covered and preserved in volcanic ash therefore there was no trace of human bodies, just the city. #greece #akrotiri #archaeology
Jerash City - a discovery to Roman history
We ended our trip in Egypt and flew right into Amman, and straight off from the plane we were driven to Jerash city, where we had a full on excursion around the ancient city.
We were amazed by how the history of ancient nations intertwined when we saw historical architecture that were similar to the ones we saw in Rome, and how thriving it must have been back in the days dated back to thousands of years ago.
It was a well worthy day trip and we have learned so much, basically a walking history book. If you happen to be in Amman and have some free time, I’d definitely recommend paying this city a visit since it’s only an hour away from the capital. #Jerash #jordan #archaeology #Romanhistory #ancientlandmark #unesco
Fort Michilimackinac
Visited Fort Michilimackinac for the first time. The entrance is under the Mackinac Bridge and entry is like $15. They have actors in period costumes and active archaeological excavations where you can speak with the archaeologists. Plus it gets a great breeze from Lake Michigan. If it’s still too hot, they have underground, air conditioned exhibits under some of the reconstructed buildings. #history #historicallandmarks #archaeology
This is not Fort Mackinac (though you can see both), Fort Michilimackinac just wasn’t a location option.

China's Terracotta Warriors 🏯🗡️🇨🇳
📍 Address: Lintong District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. Located about 30 kilometers east of the city center.
🌟 Highlights: The Terracotta Warriors are an impressive sight to behold, with thousands of life-sized statues standing guard in the pits. While the site is not as mind-blowing as some may expect, it is still a remarkable feat of ancient craftsmanship and a must-see for history buffs. Take a guided tour to learn more about the history and significance of these fascinating figures.
👎🏻 Rating: While the Terracotta Warriors are certainly worth a visit, it's important to manage your expectations. Some may find the experience underwhelming, as the figures are somewhat spread out and may not be as awe-inspiring as they appear in pictures.
🤔 Opinion: Visiting the Terracotta Warriors is like seeing soccer players on a field - impressive in their own right, but not necessarily a mind-blowing experience. While I enjoyed my visit, I found myself relying on zoom lenses to capture the intricate details of the statues. That being said, the site is still a remarkable feat of ancient craftsmanship and a fascinating glimpse into China's rich history.
👉🏻 Motivation: If you're a history buff or simply curious about ancient Chinese culture, a visit to the Terracotta Warriors is still a must-do. Just remember to manage your expectations and approach the site with an open mind. And who knows, you may just discover a newfound appreciation for these remarkable figures. 🏯🗡️🇨🇳

Carved pediment, Wat Na Phra Meru, Ayutthaya
The sermon in front of the royal crematorium appears in literature. Sunthorn Phu mentioned in Nirat Phukhao Thong, composed during the reign of King Rama III (after the end of King Rama II, when Sunthorn Phu was in government service) that
...come to the front of the pier of Wat Phra Meru, cross the edge of the temple, boats lined up side by side.
Some went up and down, singing and dancing, having fun, both courtship songs to relieve boredom.
Some celebrated the phaapaa, the xylophone was played, similar to Nai Seng.
There were bright lanterns like Sampeng (Sampeng). When it was serious, it was rare to see.
Ai Lam, half a verse, was so long and dragged until the ears were tired.
The verse did not end, turning like a snake's teeth until the chorus asked for relief and yawned.
I heard playing different things beside the temple. It was late at night, and I fell asleep with my pillow.
About three hours, dark in the sky, a thief suddenly came and dug into the boat.
The boat tilted, the sound of a squeaking sound, and he got up and sang. It went downstream so fast.
I didn't see the faces of my close disciples. It was like a piece of crazy meat, looking messy.
But I lit a candle to shine. I didn't waste the white and yellow items of the Eightfold Path.
By the power of merit and virtue of the Lord Buddha, the victory over Mara was as desired.

The magnificent glass wall of Wat Mahathat, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
The glass wall, which is the glass wall arch of Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya, can be seen as strong and sturdy because Wat Mahathat is the central temple. The prang that is nearby is the prang of Wat Ratchaburana. This shows that in the past, building large temples next to each other was quite normal. Because within the area of Bueng Phra Ram, there were three important large temples, such as Wat Phra Ram, built in the early Ayutthaya period. Similarly, Wat Mahathat is an important temple of Ayutthaya and Wat Ratchaburana is also an important large temple located in the same area. You can walk to each other conveniently. If anyone comes to visit Ayutthaya during this time, you can change clothes comfortably because the weather is not too hot. #Mong takes you to

Unseen Tha-shaped Stupa, Ayutthaya Historical Park
I brought my friends to deliver the octagonal or Tha shape, which from what I know and have found information, it was only found at Wat Mahathat. I am not sure if it was built for any special purpose or not. However, no matter what purpose or purpose it was built for, it came out very beautiful and profound. It has become another Unseen in Wat Mahathat. In addition to the sound of the Buddha statue in the distant trees, if you have the opportunity to come and collect it, you will definitely miss it. You must be able to see the octagonal pagoda from far away. Don't forget to take a picture as a souvenir. #Mongpapai

Unseen ancient stucco patterns at Wat Mahathat, Ayutthaya
The sixth set of ancient stucco patterns. Today, it is another very beautiful set. It is a standing Buddha statue decorated in the niche of the prang and the surrounding area also has a beautiful cone-shaped pattern. However, if anyone wants to see it, they have to walk around to find it because this prang is located at a corner of Wat Mahathat. You have to be someone who is interested and really wants to visit it to see it. However, it is not difficult. If anyone has the opportunity to visit Wat Mahathat, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, do not forget to see the ancient stucco patterns, which are considered another unseen piece in Wat Mahathat. #Mongpapai

A glimpse to an ancient salt town
There are three ancient salt towns in Yunnan. If you want to visit them, prepare for an odd experience to ancient China. Nuodeng, in Yunlong county, is a hidden gem for salt and tea. If you chose to visit, prepare for an out of ordinary walk (hike) within the Bai minority’s most important cultural and architectural heritage of Ming and Qing dynasties.
Nuodeng is over 2,000 years old, and was one of the richest salt town in ancient China as belong to the Tea Horse Road. Nuodeng was also center of old Salt/Tea road connecting Dali (160km east), Baoshan, Tengchong-Birman, and Lijiang-Tibet in the north.
Most of the structures are made from mud, while part of the town looks a bit ‘modern’, most houses are quite old. Roads are mainly dirt, with a few stone or pavement ones, so wear the right shoes to enjoy the architecture that has endured for centuries.
This town very traditional, inhabitants mostly speak local language, therefore basic Mandarin should be important to manage. Also, you get to see salt wells and meat drying like old times. This village might feel like a labyrinth, but you can enjoy your time and shopping to invest in local economy (very cheap).

That wall that divides past and future
Visiting the Great Wall of China definitely feels like a milestone. You read so much about this world’s heritage site, that experiencing it feels beyond anything you can dream off.
The Badaling section of the Great Wall is the most popular, dates from Ming dynasty and its highest point is 1015m (Beibalou). Yanqing county is located 80km away from Beijing downtown. There are few stores and restaurants in the base of the Wall, Subway can be the easiest option considering you are about to walk for hours.
You can reach the summit by walking or taking a cable car. Be prepared for a long walk around the wall, difficulty levels may depend on walk the side you chose to explore. Both ways, scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Even more if you consider you are now part of ancient history and one of the seven wonders of the world. Even more surprisingly, internet there is great.
Remember you have to go back over your steps to get down to the wall’s base. Now, the exciting part of leaving is that you get to do it by riding a toboggan!! Of course, the cars could be as fast as the other people in front of you are going, but worth every moment of it.

Zijincheng: The Forbidden City
The Forbidden palace may be the world’s largest imperial palace, yet the palace seems so small when you navigate it among the sea of tourists you will encounter on your visit. Nevertheless, this should not stop you from visiting one of the biggest attractions in China that dates from Ming dynasty (completed in 1644).
The city is not only an amazing architectural complex, but has the most important Chinese heritage collection in artwork, artifacts and designs (from gardens to ancient buildings). Most of the buildings are made of wood, which different designs in different areas. If you are very attentive, you will notice there are cats but no birds in the Forbidden City. It is said that most of these cats are descendants of the royal cats owned by of the concubines in Ming and Qing dynasties (all the way from 1368!).
There are few gardens and a small shop inside the city if you want to buy a tiny replica of some relics, or get yourself a nice souvenir. Keep in mind many areas in the city are still closed due to overall renovations.
If you have some additional free time, you can walk a few minutes to Jingshan park. Up the hill you will be able to appreciate the view of the whole city complex (which is approximately 720,000 m2).

Traveling is not very convenient in terms of public transportation. Most tourists travel by private car. It is recommended to come early in the morning because most of the area is an outdoor area and a little hiking. You can choose according to your preference and convenience.

The mystery of the stone spheres
The monoliths of Finca 6 in Diquis, Costa Rica are one of the biggest archaeological mysteries, due to their perfect symmetry and roundness. Since mid 1900’s, over 300 spheres have been found. Not only in Diquis Delta, but in the Isla del Caño (20 km offshore!).
Most of them are made from gabbro, few of them from limestone and sandstone. Their origin is suggested between 200 BC-1500 AD. Finca 6 site dates from 300-1550 AD. Finca 6 is a World Heritage Site, allowing tourists from all over the world to come and appreciate this amazing (and extremely heavy, over 15 tons!!) spheres. Imagine, the rocks used to crear this spheres are located over 30 miles away from the site. They moved such heavy rocks from a long distance to create this perfect spheres.
Why? That’s still a mystery. Power? Maybe. Some say that, by placing your hands over the spheres, you can feel certain energy (warm) flowing to your body from the spheres.
Remember, if you visit the South Zone of Costa Rica, give yourself a detour from the beach and visit the amazing Finca 6!!
