Swan Lake Animal Base, 天鹅湖动物基地, is located in Haikou, Hainan province. It’s an ecological park where you can see many animals, including capybaras, big turtles, swans, monkeys, and alpacas. The park is big, and it’s a fun place for families, especially with young kids. It is easy to spend around 2-3 hours there. Some popular hotel franchises also have setup their hotels here and I want to introduce this Atour Haikou at Qilou Old street. You can easily find Atour hotels all over China and they are a no frills hotel with comfortable and clean rooms. Locate the main building and once you enter you can check the directory and follow the signs to the elevator. Sometimes, you might have to transfer elevators to another building but this is acceptable. Some boutique hotels are not so straightforward to navigate. When I first learned about the cave, I saw surprised to learn how close it is to my hotel! In the little town nearby there are beautiful hotels, amazing beaches and so many restaurants to choose from! Finding the cave wasn’t that easy but I will share the location for your convenience. There is a small carpark and then a shuttle takes you down to the beach. The awesome thing about the beach is, it’s clean, big , has some trees to shelter from the sun and ablution facilities are a short walk away. Sunrise started just after 05:30 in the morning. 🏎 Getting there from Lingshui railway station is 28 km away and from 37 km from Yalongwan station 📍 Photo 2&3: These were taken on the famous monkey island in Lingshui. There are a few hundred monkeys ranging in size and breed. They are used to people and taking photos of them is easy. They have their own swimming pool too! Hidden between the peaks of a mountain, you will find a little wooden arch with a sign hammered to it, showing a path. Walking down the path there are wooden steps and handrails. At the bottom it appears similar to a volcanic crater but there is a waterfall enclosed between lush trees. Follow the path and you can stand behind the waterfall! A really awesome spot to spend the day having a picnic! A bucket-list location to every photographer in Hainan! This is called Boundary island. It’s literally on the boarder between Lingshui and Wanning but falls under Lingshui county. On the island there are many bungalows to rent, coffee shops, restaurants, a dolphin show and a lot of water-sports. Diving just off the island there is an underwater world stacked with statues and other items for divers to see. The water is clear and divers have great visibility! Road-tripping in Hainan is easy now as any overseas car license can be converted to a temporary driving license. So, driving around the island, there is an area called Wenchang. This area is quite spectacular as it also is home to an international space station. Many people enjoy fishing from the beach and others are creative with a big polystyrene float and fishing nets. Using the float as a paddle board, its easy to go fishing for the sunset time! This was a funny story! I looked online for abandoned buildings in Hainan, and found this gem! Upon arrival the first time I was denied entry as they are planning to restore the building as it was classified as a historical site. Returning one year later, the local vilagers told me the project has been stopped until further notice and I can enter the building for photos. What I saw is the most beautiful arches, overgrown stairs and the perfect contrast for the lens! I should have taken people with for portraits but I am glad to share the location with you to take stunning photos!
