Located in the Atlantic ocean. Azores, consists of 9 islands spread out to the west of Portugal, all of which offer unique features, activities, and cultures. Irrespective of which islands you choose to visit, you’ll find new natural feats that give each island a unique personality. As we’ll talk about later, you’ll see dormant volcanic formations, winding caves, lively forests, and much more. And that’s not all! Region-specific plants and animals are scattered, hidden around the land. My personal favourite activity is Vineyards and this place has a UNESCO heritage vineyard. Making the culinary experience a step above others. Some of the island's specialities or popular local foods include cheese, seafood, and exotic fruits. In fact, cheese from the Azores is so tasty that half of Portugal’s supply comes from the island. During my time there i explored multiple historic sites that are UNESCO heritage. Pico island vineyard cannot be missed. Depending on the season it could also be a great spot for dolphin and whale watching. You will find plenty of good accommodations to suit a variety of budgets. In the past I have stayed in 2 different boutique styled places. It is absolutely worth a holiday here. The best part and whole tourists are starting to show up. Azores still continue to not be as crowded as other popular destinations in Portugal. This clifftop viewpoint, located in Porto Formoso in the municipality of Ribeira Grande, overlooks Santa Iria Bay on the island's north coast. Due to the closure of road access to the parking area at Termas da Ferraria, the spa adjacent to the natural thermal pool, we opted to walk from Miradouro da Ilha Sabrina. The heated water mixes with the cold water of the sea in a small cove to form a small natural thermal pool. The entrance to the natural pool is free. The timing of visit is vital if you want to experience an authentic Atlantic Spa at Ferraria. The best time to visit is between two hours before and after the low tide when the water is warm. During high tide the current may be too strong and the water is not warm enough. There are ropes for you to hold on as the Atlantic waves are very strong. One of the best bell towers I have climbed is in Ponta Delgada. We visited the bell tower at my nephew's request, and it turned out to be one of the top attractions on São Miguel Island. Standing at 29.6 meters, the bell tower was built in 1724 and reopened in 2013 after being closed for several years. If you are physically fit, you should not miss the chance to climb it, as it offers spectacular 360° views of the city from the top. We visited a small park near the islet of Vila Franca, located in Vila Franca do Campo, a charming town in the southern part of São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal. The islet, less than 1 km from the park, is uninhabited and primarily composed of basalt. It serves as a popular spot for recreational activities such as cliff diving and snorkeling during the summer. There were a few forts in Ponta Delgada in the past, but all were demolished over time except one, the military fort of São Brás. Forte de São Brás is located near the port of Ponta Delgada. It is a coastal Renaissance fortress dating back to 1552 and now houses the Military Museum of the Azores. The entrance costs only 1€ per adult. We flew Azores Airlines from Lisbon (LIS) to Ponta Delgada (PDL), the largest city and administrative capital of the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal located in the North Atlantic Ocean. Azores Airlines is part of the SATA Group which connects the Azores archipelago with various destinations in Europe and North America. The flight from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada took around 2.5 hours, covering a distance of approximately 1450 km. Shortly after takeoff, we were served a snack box and a beverage. There was no in-flight entertainment since it was a short-haul flight. The flight was not crowded, so each of us had a row of three seats to ourselves.
