Nuuk (Greenlandic: Nuuk, meaning cape), also known as Godthob, is the capital of Greenland, the largest port city in Greenland and the seat of the local administrative district government. Nuuk covers an area of 105,000 square kilometers and is located at 64°10′ north latitude and 51°43′ west longitude. In Danish and Norwegian, it is called Godthob, which means good hope. The Danes living here are accustomed to calling this city Godthob. After the implementation of local autonomy in 1979, the official name of this city is Nuuk in Greenlandic.
