The fourth stop of the Qinghai-Gansu Grand Loop: Dunhuang, Mingsha Mountain and Mogao Grottoes are all arranged
On the day we arrived in Dunhuang, we mainly visited Mingsha Mountain and Mogao Grottoes. Both places are quite unique. Let me tell you some real feelings.
Mingsha Mountain: It is surprisingly comfortable to go there early in the morning
I read the guide before, and it said that it is best to climb Mingsha Mountain in the evening, so that you can watch the sunset without being exposed to the sun. But our group went there early in the morning, and I didn’t expect the experience to be good - there were few people, no need to squeeze, the weather was cool, and the sun was not so toxic. If you don’t want to watch the starry sky concert of tens of thousands of people at night, it is really suitable to go there early in the morning.
I heard that people who watched the concert that night couldn’t get a taxi when the show ended, and it was so crowded. Suddenly I felt that it was quite wise for us to go early.
I wore hole shoes. When I climbed the sand mountain, I walked up the ladder. When I reached the top of the mountain, I took off my shoes and walked barefoot in socks. The sand was soft and didn’t burn my feet. It was much more comfortable than wearing shoes.
I experienced sandboarding. It was a bit inconvenient to wear a skirt, so I wrapped myself up tightly. As a result, I slid down an S-bend and almost flipped over. I was shocked. I threw away my socks after sliding. They were full of sand and I couldn't wash them clean.
Mogao Grottoes: Class A tickets are really worth grabbing
We booked Class A tickets for Mogao Grottoes more than 20 days in advance, and we actually got them. We were lucky. Others in the group didn't make it, so the travel agency finally arranged for them to go to Yulin Grottoes. They said it was okay, but it was definitely not as shocking as Mogao Grottoes.
After entering the venue with Class A tickets, we watched two movies first. According to the guide, the first one talked about the origin of Mogao Grottoes. I deliberately sat in the last row. After the end, I rushed to the second one and took the middle seat to watch the dome movie. The movie was really well shot. Several representative caves were clearly seen. It felt like I was standing in the caves. It was super shocking.
After watching the movie, we took the shuttle bus directly to the caves. There was a tour guide who took us to visit eight caves. We didn't have to queue up, just follow. The more we looked at the murals and Buddha statues, the more amazing they were. They are indeed miracles of human history. You can't experience the shocking feeling just by looking at the pictures.
Food and Drink: Dunhuang is really a treasure trove of food
At noon and in the evening, I just found a place to eat in Dunhuang. I didn't expect to step on several delicious places, which were more comfortable than the previous stops.
The hand-pulled lamb must be praised. There is no fishy smell at all. It is directly dipped in chili powder and is so fragrant; the fried noodles are also delicious, and the noodles are chewy; Chenji, which eats kangguo lamb, contains lamb chops, potatoes and pot cakes, all of which are fried, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the more you chew, the more fragrant it is.
The donkey meat yellow noodles feel average, not recommended. The soul juice looks a bit strange, I didn't dare to touch it, and let my partner eat it all. He said that this is his obsession to come to the Northwest, and he must try it.
I also bought Yangji dry food, and I love the sand date rolls the most! Many people recommend sand date cakes in the guide, but I think it's a bit dry and thin, not as rich as the sand date rolls, the filling inside is soft and sticky, and it doesn't choke people when eating.
I also tried a lot of drinks: Fangha's sweet embryo green tea is good; Silu's apricot peel tea and ice milk egg fermented glutinous rice must be praised. The apricot peel tea has a strong apricot flavor and is just sour and sweet. Others feel like drinking sour plum soup, which is not good enough; ice milk egg fermented glutinous rice is also better than hot. If you haven't tried it, you must try it. Silu's taste is the best. I also tried Liu Hongxing and Li Guangji's apricot peel tea, and bought several bottles of apricot peel tea drinks of different brands in the supermarket. After comparison, Silu is still the most to my taste.
Finally, I bought souvenirs at the Dunhuang Night Market and visited a store called Dunsheng. The things are cheaper than other stores. I bought two bags here directly, saving me from comparing prices.
Dunhuang was a pleasant surprise. We had a lot of fun and the food was satisfying. When you go to Dunhuang, which one do you want to visit first, Mingsha Mountain or Mogao Grottoes? Or do you have any private Dunhuang delicacies? Please share in the comments~
