FENG LIN GE Review

During the National Day holiday, I came to Fenglin Pavilion for dinner. There were really a lot of people. We lined up online at around 3 pm. There were more than 300 numbers in total, and we got A101. It opened at 5:15 pm, and we waited until 7 pm to get in and get our meals. If you come to eat during holidays, remember to get your number in advance, otherwise they won't give you a number when you arrive. Fenglin Pavilion is a century-old restaurant. I had dinner here when I first came to Datong in 2018. I was very impressed with this restaurant at the time. The restaurant is very grand and has various architectural designs of pavilions and towers in the antique architectural style. In addition to enjoying the taste buds, you can also appreciate the indoor calligraphy and painting art, and the dishes are all local characteristics of Datong.

A century-old restaurant, located in the core of Datong Ancient City, very close to Huayan Temple, Nine Dragon Wall, etc., with an antique style, elegant environment, good taste, and inexpensive price. The only thing is that the business hours are a bit short😄. If you go before 8 o'clock in the evening, you will stop taking numbers. Friends who want to go should pay attention to the business hours! The dishes are large, ordered steamed buns, cold cabbage hearts, pure mutton offal (no smell at all, especially clean and delicious), sweet and sour meatballs (sweet and sour, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, large quantity), hot and sour soup (you can order half a portion, the quantity is very sufficient, the other dishes were not finished, the hot and sour soup is the only one that I drank clean😄 delicious)

Fenglin Pavilion is a place famous for its food, especially the three fresh and hundreds of flowers stewed dishes here are loved by everyone. The key is that the entrance is guarded at the source to ensure safety, so everyone can eat with special peace of mind.

The legendary restaurant where you need to get a number several hours in advance, the legendary restaurant where you may not be able to eat even if you queue up, the legendary restaurant where Empress Dowager Cixi personally ordered Baihua Shaomai, the legendary restaurant where Emperor Zhengde flirted with Li Fengjie... These legends are all true! I came to the restaurant at 13:50 in the afternoon to queue up for the number for dinner at 14:30, and brought my parents and candy to have dinner before 17:30 in the evening. Pushing open the door to the delicious food, it seems like entering a luxurious palace, with carved beams and painted buildings, antique style, pavilions and towers, and a copper bathroom that cost millions to build. Sugar-coated fire cakes, health-preserving Hulusi, sweet and sour meatballs, Pingcheng braised beef, lotus pond moonlight, Acacia ice, and of course the legendary Baihua Shaomai. As for the taste, it depends on the person. We think it's not bad. The appearance of the restaurant itself is higher than the food.

The food is delicious and the price is very affordable. The environment is really great. Every corner is very thoughtful. I especially like this kind of ancient restaurant. There are so many people, but the food is served quickly. You won’t have to wait for a long time. However, you have to go to get a number in advance. You can start taking numbers at 9 am and 2:30 pm. Basically, all the numbers are taken in a few minutes, so you have to go early.

A very pleasantly surprised restaurant, every corner is carefully designed. Whether it is the unity of the door and the interior style, or the use of space, as well as the treatment of water and light, the decoration alone is almost flawless. However! Such a wonderful restaurant is held back by the bathroom. The bathroom is too small and cramped, and the cleanliness is only at the level of a subway station bathroom. This is a bad review. The dishes are still very satisfactory, and every little detail is exquisitely made, whether it is the skin of the steamed buns or the treatment of the mutton offal in the mutton offal powder, there is nothing to be picky about. We ordered fried meat, steamed buns, two mutton offal powders, two fried cakes (one sweet and one salty), and cold Hulusi. These two girls can't finish them, so they have to pack them up. The service is not outstanding, and there is no special flaw, give it three stars.

It is said to be one of the famous tourist attractions in Datong. It was fully booked at 4 pm and I waited for more than an hour before I could eat. The food tasted good and I thought the price was moderate, not ridiculously expensive. I ordered Baihua Shaomai, and I personally prefer the one with green vegetable filling; the powdered mutton offal tasted really good, and the jelly meatballs (I am from Shanxi and have eaten too much of these) were just ok; although the Hulusi was very special, I was a little disappointed because I had too high expectations. It took 30 minutes to eat and 1 hour to visit. It was really amazing inside. Every eaves and beams were carefully carved, every wall was a landscape, and every turn was full of surprises. Even the Hanging Temple had it. Fenglin Pavilion really showed the architectural culture of Shanxi to the fullest! It is said that it cost 300 million to build. I thought it was exaggerated before the visit, but after the visit, I felt it was true! Friends, even if you don't go to eat, go and visit it!
