Shizi Street Review

I came here from the White Horse Temple after a day of fun. I was so tired that I rode an electric scooter. I was originally heading for the Lijing Gate, but I rode in unknowingly. The security guard saw me but didn't stop me, which made me feel embarrassed. But there is no parking here.

The Cross Street in Luoyang is actually not very big. It is composed of four streets in the shape of a cross, and each street is probably about three or four hundred meters long. But it is really crowded at night, especially at the night market, which is full of various snack stalls.

After passing through the Old Street Commercial Street, you will reach the Cross Street at Lijing Gate in Luoyang. The night market here is the most famous and lively snack night market in Luoyang. The whole block is festive and lively under the shade of red lanterns. There are many kinds of snacks, and there is always one suitable for you. The prices here are affordable. Each merchant has a clear price on the glass of the stall, and locals often come to eat, mostly young people. This is a lovely place full of fireworks. ​

Old Luoyang people recommend routes and itineraries. Everyone enters the old neighborhood from the Lijing Gate of Xiguan. Walk east along the stone road. There are many old houses from the Ming and Qing dynasties on the roadside. At the first intersection, you can see an old brand that does not turn over the soup. I suggest that everyone try the meatball soup. The soup is too plain and many people can't adapt to it. At this time, you can see several Yin's dental clinics. This is really well-deserved and has an effect on oral ulcers! Continue straight to the old market. There is a crossroads, there is a Lin's knife-cut noodles, which is also a decades-old store. There are often local people selling duozi meat at the door, which is a halal method. After the meat is cooked, it is placed in a basin or a jar and compacted for preservation, and then cut into thin slices for sale. You can try it. On the right side of Lin's house, you can see the signboard of Guanji Water Banquet. This Luoyang Water Banquet has a high cost-effectiveness and a biased environment, but it tastes good and affordable. Continue to Sima's Water Banquet, Xinghua Village Water Banquet Garden, and Lion Tower are all old stores that locals also go to. It is recommended that those who want to taste authentic Shui Xi can go to these restaurants. Zhen Bu Tong on Zhongzhou Road has a good storefront and is very expensive. The local tyrants can ignore it. Shizijie, this was the most prosperous place in old Luoyang in the past, and it was a snack street at night. To be honest, everyone just walks around, like most snack streets, there is nothing new. Shui Xi is expensive and unpalatable. Anyway, we locals don't go here. If you live nearby, there is a beef soup restaurant on the south side of Shizijie that tastes very good. You can go there in the morning to have a bowl and experience the soup culture of Luoyang. There are all locals here. After passing Shizijie, continue to the east and you will see a section of the old city wall with the Drum Tower on top. This place is related to the bell sound of the Horse Temple, one of the eight major scenic spots in Luoyang. The White Horse Temple is about 20 kilometers east of the Drum Tower. In ancient times, there were not so many buildings. When the morning and evening bells in the temple rang, the drums in the Drum Tower would resonate and form a sound of bells and drums. Unfortunately, there are more buildings now, and the bell sound can't spread so far. After passing the Drum Tower, there is a restaurant called "I'm waiting for you in Happiness" where you can stay. Just in front of you is the intersection of Dongda Street and Minzhu Street. 50 meters north on the left hand side, with the door facing west, there is a Gaoji Oil Tea, which tastes great. Sometimes I have breakfast here. Going north from Gaoji Oil Tea, Banshengyuan Braised Meat, Jiang Noodles, Pan Heshang Roast Chicken, and Yushuyuan Roast Chicken are all famous snacks in the old city of Luoyang. Back to the intersection, if you walk here at night, there are many people drinking soup on the roadside in front. This is the best Liuji Meatball Soup. Ten yuan for meatballs, boneless meat, and a bottle of soda, standard old Luoyang people.

Enter from Lijing Gate and walk along the stone road until you see red lanterns hanging, which is the night market. The fried noodles are really delicious, 5 yuan per portion, and there is also grilled fish, I forgot what it is called, and fried yogurt, both are great. The only thing is that the hygiene environment of the night market is understandable.

The most distinctive thing about Luoyang is the Luoyang Water Banquet, but it is all soupy, expensive and not tasty. I don't recommend you to eat the water banquet, but you can try the "no-turnover soup", which is not bad. I recommend a store called Tang Taizong No-turnover Soup, which is cheap and delicious, and the environment is also good. Other snacks recommended are Shabu-shabu tripe and silver thread pastry. In particular, Luoyang silver thread pastry is very distinctive, melts in the mouth, sweet but not greasy, there is a store on the old street that sells it very authentically, the stall is No. 150, you can buy some back as a souvenir, it's still good to give to others!

The Old City Cross Street Night Market is located in the center of Luoyang Old Street. It is the most prosperous and lively place in Luoyang. The night market began in the Tang and Song Dynasties and has been passed down for more than a thousand years. It has been maintained in Luoyang, Kaifeng and other places. The Luoyang Cross Street Night Market is second to none in China. The Cross Street Night Market focuses on food. On one side are Luoyang local specialties, mainly Luoyang water banquets, food stalls, no-stirring soup, stewed noodles, starch noodles, and muddled noodles. On the other side are well-known snacks from all over the country, such as fried yogurt, chicken wings wrapped in rice, grilled squid, grilled skewers, etc. They are quite popular and taste great.
