We had tapas here on Boat Race Day 2019. They had a special menu and the food was really lovely. I can especially recommend the calamari - crisp and beautifully cooked.

Let me be clear. I am a Yank who has spent years on the road as a travelling account manager. I have eaten at hundreds of American diners across the US. I was hoping for that experience here but got no such luck. Now, don&#39;t get me wrong. This place is nice enough and the food and service are decent. But this is not an American diner, even though it is owned by US raised owners. I suspect the owners skewed the offerings towards British taste. Good enough, but no American bullseye here.

An example, if you care. I ordered a cherry Coke. Coca-Cola manufactures cherry Coke these days (at least in the US). What I got was a bottle of Coke with an ice-filled glass with a splash of cherry syrup. Quaint if you want a 1950&#39;s style US soda stand experience. But this is the 21st century. Come on man!

We enjoyed a sensational Sunday lunch ch yesterday at the City Barge. Our first lunch outing to a pub since lockdown and very much enjoyed. My belly pork was absolutely delicious. Timothy Taylor Landlord was served at a perfect temperature and the Cote du Rhone slid down well.

A delicious, inventive set menu with course after course of beautifully prepared, presented and combined ingredients, all cooked to perfection and melting in the mouth. The wine list was interesting and wide-ranging too: we chose a characterful Spanish viognier-viura which went well with everything we had. Every element was delicious; some of the standouts were the exquisite trio of amuse-bouche (nibbles of salmon roe, pressed belly pork and tiny cheese tartelettes), wonderful brioche and sourdough breads with cod mousse in herb puree and cultured and lovage butters; hen-of-the-woods tempura with cep custard. That gives an idea of the adventurousness and attention to detail; every element was pitch-perfect. Staff were delightful, perfectly attentive and never intrusive. A treat in every way.

Although the price is a bit expensive, his dish is super large, only three dishes, a head plate is enough for two people to eat, overall satisfaction, but the service attitude is a little worse, others are good.

We absolutely love it here and enjoy introducing friends to it, they have all been suitably impressed by the food and the charming, fun service
