The Coconut Club

This coconut-themed restaurant is very popular locally. In 2016, within two months of its opening, the restaurant became famous because Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong brought Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to patronize it. In less than two years, it was listed on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list.

This is another old brand in Chinatown, serving simple Malaysian meals. The chicken wing rice is delicious and very cheap. It goes great with a poached egg, but the egg tastes just average.

The origin of the Coconut Club began with a nasi lemak cooking competition in Kuala Lumpur. The food they tasted during their trip to Kuala Lumpur inspired the team, who spent two years perfecting their recipe and eventually founded the Coconut Club. Traditional Malay nasi lemak is relatively simple, with ingredients including anchovies, peanuts, fried fish, cucumbers and eggs, as well as the indispensable chili sauce. The Chinese style is relatively rich in side dishes, and can be added with fried chicken, sausages, fish cakes, luncheon meat, etc. The rice of nasi lemak is different from ordinary white rice.
