My main issue is that the aircon didn’t work in several rooms.
I had a late flight so I booked the room for the night before. I arrived at 3am, checked in and went out for some drinks. I came back at around 6:00am, put the aircon on and fell asleep. I didn’t notice the aircon wasn’t actually cooling the room because I was so tired I just fell straight to sleep.
I woke up a couple of hours later and I was very hot. I spent around 45 minutes trying to see why the aircon wasn’t making the room cold. I then called the reception to say the aircon wasn’t working. They sent a maintenance engineer who claimed he fixed it. I fell back to sleep but the aircon still wasn’t cooling the room.
Before I went out to breakfast, i went back to reception and explained that the aircon still isn’t working and they again sent a maintenance engineer to take a look.
I came back from breakfast and put the aircon on but it still wasn’t cooling the room so I went back to reception again. They wanted to send an engineer again to take a look but by this time I was exhausted, barely slept and annoyed that the aircon still wasn’t working after telling them for the third time. Therefore I told them to give me a different room.
The general manager came and changed me to a different room and said that they are in the process of changing the aircon units in the rooms and he knows they are substandard. He apologised and said a brand new aircon unit would be installed in my room the following day and he put me in a different room - a slight upgrade but one which was also directly facing a very noisy nightclub.
The aircon in the new room, although slightly better, also wasn’t very good and it wasn’t cooling the room properly so I asked for a fan. The receptionist said they do not have fans and again sent an engineer to the room who claimed the aircon is cold and working. But although cold air was coming out of the unit, in my opinion it wasn’t cooling the room like it should. Eventually they gave me a fan which helped keep me a little cooler and slightly drown out the noise of the nightclub.
The new aircon unit on my original room was installed two days later and I returned back to that room the day after it was installed.
This hotel used to be great and I have stayed here several times over the last 10 years, usually for a week at a time, but on this occasion I did not enjoy my stay at all. I have trips to Angeles planned for September and February however, sadly, I will be looking for alternative hotels to stay at after this experience. Paying for and staying in a room with substandard aircon during the hottest month of the year just isn’t for me.
There were other issues such as calling me an hour before checkout to remind me to checkout which I found quite pushy, holes in the bedsheets, towels not quite clean, and signs everywhere highlighting extra charges but these are not deal breakers for me.
There are also positives such as we really like the pool and breakfast.
