Greetings!
Here is a short review of the above hotel.
My family, consisting of my parents, wife and three children went to Beijing for a short holiday from Monday to Friday, 16th to 20th June.
We flew into Beijing through Daxing International Airport and simply took 2 taxis to the hotel, located at 57 Wangfujing Street.
A mistake.
2 taxis and we ended up with 2 different fares, though we arrived at the hotel three minutes apart. I paid 197 yuan and my parents and son, who were in the other taxi, got quoted 400 yuan.
After some “discussion” along the hotel driveway, we managed to agree on 260 yuan.
Concierge (Navigator)
Here, we were grateful to Colin, a member of the navigator team, for helping to explain and calmly helping to defuse a potentially ugly situation between the taxi driver and myself as I was indignant that this taxi driver was trying to fleece my parents.
A piece of advice is for anyone who is thinking of taking a taxi, suggest you agree on an upfront fee to minimise any dispute.
An alternative would be to use DiDi’s premium service.
This was the option which we used after this incident and there were no further issues during our stay in Beijing.
Kudos to Colin for this.
Kudos also to his fellow navigator, Tom, who was most helpful in finding us a driver of a private van to bring us to the Great Wall (Mutianyu) and back to the Renaissance. He even ensured that we were well-stocked with bottled water and huge hotel umbrellas. The water and umbrellas were indeed much appreciated when we went up to the Wall under the scorching heat on 17th June.
Thank you once again Colin and Tom!
Much appreciated.
Reception
Rita was helpful and welcoming when we arrived and she helped us get a room (1611) even though we were at the hotel at about ten in the morning of 16th June. Special mention has to go to the housekeeping team of both 1611 and 1231. They did a wonderful job of keeping the rooms nice and clean. Thank you for your care and meticulous touch!
Club Lounge
Would recommend that you get access to the Club Lounge when you stay at the Renaissance. We took advantage of access and enjoyed breakfast, tea, light dinner and even drinks. Yes, we were spoilt by the generous amount of food and drinks from morning to night. One could simply stay the entire day to eat and drink to one’s content at the Club Lounge. The food was generally good and the variety was sufficient. Tsingtao bottled beer somehow tasted fresher and was more enjoyable. This, along with the red wine (Shiraz- smooth and very drinkable) were my daily drinks. You can even get cocktails and we enjoyed Tequila Sunrises and Long Island Teas. These were made by Chloe and she was helpful and attentive to us. We would also like to commend Chloe’s two female colleagues who were wearing round, metal-rimmed glasses who also were attentive and helpful to us at the Club Lounge. (Could someone help us to get their names published here too? It would be much appreciated!)
Summary
Overall, if you are looking for a hotel which is at the Wangfujing area, you cannot go wrong with the Renaissance.
Remember to consider getting Club Lounge access to enhance your stay at this lovely and conveniently located hotel, staffed by attentive, polite and helpful members of the Renaissance team!
