Yungang Jianguo Hotel

This is a big hotel in a good location ( walking distance to the ancient town) with spacious room , clean and comfortable beds. However, there are no fridge, nor save box in the room; kettle, tea, coffee provided. Love breakfast with a variety of choice, both western and Asian styles, especially the dinner buffet (158 yuan) is amazing; well done chefs! We love a lot of things about this hotel apart from the “shower tickets”; this should be clarified in the hotel’s policy that this ticket is just a discount coupon for using Spa. We thought this is for swimming pool. Overall, we had a good time at the hotel and lucky to visit the Buddha caves and the flying temple in one day. Highly recommend this hotel to any traveller in Datong.

Much better than expected

I booked this hotel based on the reviews and the 5-star ranking. However, the fact is so disappointing. The smoke odor is everywhere, the hallway, elevator, and the room. The room temperature was 29 degrees but the air conditioning was not working, and even the fan could not be turned on. So after a night of enduring heat and odor, we canceled the remaining days and moved to another hotel. We had a breakfast in this hotel before leaving and found the food was also disappointing.

Excellent hotel with great staff and great service. Location good, about a 15-20 min walk or 9 minute Didi ride to the ancient city. Rooms clean, extremely comfortable and with all the necessary amenities. Breakfast had a wide range of choices, the local Datong options are especially good. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

Kind personell, very clean, everybody helpful, tastefull food in restaurant, fast check in and out, great service, comfortable beds, nice window view, good value for the money.

When we arrived we were given the wrong room in B tower with single beds, we had to go back downstairs and show the booking again to request the correct double room in A tower. The rooms and amenities are old, and the fridge is broken. I called reception who told me to bring any items I want to cool down to the reception and use their fridge, when I asked if we can swap the broken fridge for a working fridge, they said all of the fridges are like this. They won't admit the fridges are all broken, but all of the fridges in the hotel are warm and won't make your food / beverages cold. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, and they need to replace the fridges.
