Booked a superior suite at this hotel but there was nothing superior about the room, completely standard so don't be fooled by the wording. The location was really good with lots of bars and restaurants near by of which were all pretty good, was a short walk to the Lido which was a pleasant area and also a short walk to many bus routes to various places. 10-15 minute bus ride to Funchal which really is a beautiful place, however on leaving the hotel be aware of a very steep hill, it was okay for us but you may need to consider this if you have mobility issues, then again that goes for most of the Island of Madeira. The hotel was very pleasant but only really front of house, scratch the surface and you could see how much TLC was needed, loose floor tiles in the corridors, paint flaking off the walls, very poor lighting, no air conand doors that really needed a lick of paint! It was apparently refurbished in 2019, but that was only the reception areas and bar area surely as the rest looked tired. The staff were mostly friendly except for some of the pool bar staff who were quite grumpy. The pool area was very nice however if you are coming in the busy season expect to struggle for a sunbed. Beautiful views from the balcony, however the balcony was quite small and again certainly not superior and had cracks in the floor that made it look unsafe. There is a roof terrace but no bar, seems strange but you are welcome to take your own drinks up there but be warned there's very little lighting. Sometimes there are functions on the roof but there is a charge for entry. Doubt we'd stay again but I would still recommend this hotel purely on location and if you like being out and about, would stay again if the made the place look more appealing and less tired.
