"Having stayed in this hotel with my husband as he was working in Hawick I can honestly say it was fantastic experience could not fault anything, snd made my stay great, nothing was a problem. I must say a big thank you to James and Matthew they were fantastic!! Food was lovely portion were very generous, I personally loved the bruschetta and breakfast omelette was a must! My husband loved the lamb shank! And steaks were lovely too I I cannot wait to return and spend another weekend there if ever need accommodation I highly recommend this hotel "

"Well what a place. As you drive through the town your expectations are not high. How wrong can you be. Beautiful house and the most welcome host in Sue. Couldn’t have been made more welcome by Sue and her two dogs. We stayed in lodge one. A fair price for a couple and 3 dogs. Hard floors all through. More than enough space. . Didn’t feel cramped. Excellent shower! Gravelled outside, perfect for a long coated dog. Parking straight outside the lodge which in the rain made is easy to unload / load. Secure paddock for exercise (dogs!!!) Any dog show people reading this, perfect place to stay for Border Union or SKC. Good breakfast freshly cooked, again, accommodated the dogs. The only very minor downside was the very bright green light to mark the fire exit. Appreciate why it’s there but it was really bright! And no hand towels only bath. Very minor and inconsequential. Loved this place and will 100% be back. The ultimate dog friendly venue. Thank you Sue."

"Excellent stay! I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely rural country house. The hosts were extremely friendly, accommodating and welcoming. The bedroom was delightful - very quiet and peaceful. The food was top quality and there is a lovely atmosphere. A highlight was the resident hare family walking past the window as I ate breakfast. I will definitely be going back to this lovely b&b and would highly recommend a stay."

"Although we weren't staying at the Mansfield House Hotel , four of us attended a wedding at this venue on 4th November, and I want others to know of the excellent service afforded to us by the staff at this hotel. Upon our arrival at the hotel, although it was busy due to the arrival of other guests, nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff. We were greeted at the bar with a smile and a friendly " how can I help you" every time and drinks were served promptly and accurately. Great care had been taken in the setting up of the large function room where the wedding ceremony and reception took place. It was beautifully decorated and lighting and furnishings were just perfect. Whenever guests had to vacate that room for a short time so tables could be rearranged for the wedding meal and later, the evening party, guests were shown into another bar area which had all been cleaned up from use earlier in the event and again a more than able number of staff were on hand to greet and serve the guests quickly and efficiently. Everything just appeared seamless and well organised. The wedding meal was superb. It was obviously well prepared, freshly cooked and presented to us by staff who really cared and ensured that everyone had exactly what they had ordered. I even heard a guest ask if she could change what she had ordered for something different and that was done with no fuss and brought to the table with a smile. Put simply, the service offered by this hotel could not be faulted. Some of the staff appeared to be teenagers but they were smartly turned out, they obviously took pride in what they were doing and worked as though they had been doing it for years. In my opinion this hotel is the perfect venue for any private occasion. A first class venue with excellent facilities and food with staff who have a brilliant work ethic . Highly recommended."

"This hotel describes itself as a boutique hotel. In my mind ‘boutique’ should be the highest of standards and the best that you can get. The Balcary would fall short of this.. We were attending a wedding so stayed for 2 nights. When we arrived we were allocated the Lodge which was one of two ‘shed’ like buildings accessible via a gravel driveway to the rear of the main building. A small pathway would be great to avoid the heels of my shoes being totally ruined in the gravel. Lodge was nicely furnished, no bath if you like one, small shower, a wobbly toilet seat that is too small for the pan and a very small bath towel of poor quality, one hand towel. No small towel for my hair. I would expect good towels in a boutique hotel. These were not. A full length mirror would be useful for a wedding venue placed next to a socket for a hair dryer. We were lucky to have lovely weather, the grass was cut but the outside furniture was not noticeable and not somewhere you would want to sit. Breakfast was delicious. The owners were not unwelcoming but were not there on check-out Sunday morning. We got the lady from the kitchen to help us pay our bill. A nice hotel overall with a few minor shortcomings for the price."
