We stayed at Hotel Lyttos Mare for 13 days as a family of four, with all members over the age of 18. 1. Location & Accessibility Hotel Lyttos Mare enjoys a prime beachfront location in Hersonissos, Crete, just a 25-minute drive from Heraklion International Airport. It’s easy to reach by car or taxi, and the journey offers scenic views along the coast. The hotel has direct access to an adjacent beach, which is only a short walk away. The beach itself is generally beautiful, clean, and well-maintained. However, like many beaches in Crete, there are quite a lot of stones in the water, which can make entering the sea a bit tricky. Water shoes are recommended for more comfortable swimming. Despite this, the beach remains a major highlight thanks to its accessibility and natural charm. 2. Accommodation & Amenities The rooms are generally spacious and well-designed, offering plenty of room to relax. They were consistently cleaned to a good standard, contributing to a comfortable and pleasant stay. We personally had a room with a private pool, which was always clean and well-maintained. In fact, the entire hotel complex is exceptionally well-kept—clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The overall appearance and upkeep of the resort truly live up to the expectations of a five-star hotel. A major downside of the resort setup is that Hotel Lyttos Mare is directly connected to the neighboring Lyttos Beach, a significantly more budget-oriented hotel. Despite the price difference and the noticeably higher standard of design and facilities at Lyttos Mare, guests from Lyttos Beach are allowed full access to all areas of Lyttos Mare. This often leads to overcrowding, particularly at the pools and shared spaces, and undermines the exclusive atmosphere one would expect from a five-star hotel. It feels unfair to pay a premium for Lyttos Mare while sharing the same facilities with guests from a lower-tier property. 3. Dining & Cuisine The hotel features four restaurants: three buffet-style and one à la carte steakhouse. The steakhouse is included once during your stay if you book for a certain minimum number of nights—otherwise, it comes at an extra cost. The steak restaurant offers a good selection and the food is extremely tasty, definitely one of the highlights. The other restaurants are somewhat underwhelming. The main buffet restaurant and the Greek taverna often serve very similar dishes, which makes one of them feel a bit redundant. Menu rotation is limited, and the lack of variety—especially at lunch—does not meet the standards expected from a five-star hotel. The Asian restaurant serves generally delicious food, but in my opinion, the selection is far too limited. A broader range of dishes would greatly improve the overall dining experience. 4. Service & Hospitality While some staff members truly stand out for their friendliness and dedication, overall service at Lyttos Mare falls short of five-star expectations in key areas. One major disappoin
