I stayed one night at The Independente Hostel & Suites in Lisbon and enjoyed it. The location is great—close to Bairro Alto and the nightlife, so it’s easy to explore the area. The views of Lisbon from outside the property are beautiful, and the bedroom had a cool layout and nice decor that made it feel inviting. Everything was clean, and since it wasn’t very busy during my stay, the rooms were only half full, which made it feel more relaxed and quiet.

I made a reservation but my flight got cancelled last minute. I called and emailed asking them to please hold the reservation as I’d be there the next day and the day after that. They ended up canceling my reservation without any notice and charged me the full amount. Now I am in Lisbon with nowhere to stay. Terrible service. Do NOT stay here under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

A truly great hotel, quirky but has everything you need and is in the best place in Lisbon with easy access to all areas. Bear in mind that Lisbon is extremely hilly but there is a good bus and tram service which is very reasonable fare wise. We also had a brilliant meal in their restaurant Le Decedente. Really innovative menu of Portuguese cuisine served by very helpful and welcoming staff. Breakfast is also served consisting of a buffet with all the usual elements, plus freshly cooked dishes should you want a hot breakfast. We stayed there five years ago and were only too happy to go back when we returned to the city. We were especially pleased to find that Big Mamma still worked in the breakfast room, she is such a welcoming, happy and cheerful lady, who really does set you up for a fantastic day. To cap it all she recognised us and asked where our travelling companions were! (we were 4 five years ago but on 2 this time). I would really recommend this hotel whether you are young or of a more mature age like us!!

A lovely old and comfortable hotel. Very clean. The restaurant is excellent and has a very interesting menu. The staff are friendly, helpful, polite and are characters in their own way. The hotel is conveniently situated for exploring the city of Lisbon and is situated next to a viewpoint over the city and the Gloria tram elevator. I would recommend this hotel.

Fantastisch hotel met een perfecte ligging. Wij hadden een suite met terras (kamer 2) en uitzicht over de stad. Kamer was schoon, bed was heerlijk en de badkamer ruim genoeg. Alles was aanwezig op de kamer, tv, koffieapparaat etc. Ontbijt was eenvoudig, maar voor ons prima. Je kan tegen betaling ook eten bestellen. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Bij de bar/receptie is er iedere dag een gezellige happy hour van 16.00-19.00 en dit is echt een aanrader.

It looks lovely from the outside. Was once the Swiss residency of their embassador a s far as I know. It is real vintage. All a bit rough. Old. Run down. Odd smell on the ground floor after you leave the vintage elevator. The bit between the restaurant and toiletts. We stayed in suite /double room 304 with a terrace. Super expensive, 830 Euros for 4 nights plus city tax 16 Euros. On the bedside table you find a pair of earplugs. That says it all. Extremly loud. If you are not a backpacker and want some sleep, do not go there. Breakfast is less than average. Come on! 830 Euro for 4 nights and no bacon was available for fried eggs! The double room has a pretty newly done bathroom. Nothing fancy. Really basic but with mold at 3 bits between the tiles. Really disgusting. Always keep in mind I have paid a lot of money. You might accept circumstances if you are young and party every night but as a grown up you want something for your money. Location is central. Nice view from your own terrace but if you are scared of the night noise it does't really compensate. Cannot recommend to stay there. Try to avoid all famous neigbourhoods. We walked through Santos. Quiet. Lovely restaurants and coffee shops. Try to find a plave there!

Location is fantastic and staff is kind. These are the only positive worth giving a star. The electronic card system to open the doors does not seem to be resolved since 2019 (read previous reviews 🤯), you get locked in or locked out of the rooms very often. The 3 level bunk beds is inconvenient and dangerous at night as there is no light for the room, only a tiny lamp near your bed. I did not sleep at all due to the night club music EVERY night! Not just the weekend but hear me well: every night! Provide some earplugs at least if you know this happens or warn guests on your website. This would have avoided you this negative review. In terms of cleanliness, the bathrooms are a hot mess: only 1 toilet out of 3 seem to work and there were never towels provided to dry your hands. Breakfast looks nothing like their pictures, it is cheap supermarket hams and cheese and coffee was horrible. This hotel need a huge renovation, at the current state I would avoid at all cost. Price is not cheap for the service provided.

Wij hadden een kamer in het ‘suite’ deel, wat eigenlijk gewoon een hotel is itt het hostel deel. Gelegen in een voormalig ‘paleis’ en bankgebouw is het boordevol karakter. De bedden zijn aan de harde kant net als de dunne kussens. De kamers zijn wel ruim en schoon. De ontbijtzaal deel je met het hostel wat soms vermakelijke taferelen oplevert in de interactie tussen hotel en hostel gasten. Het ontbijt is oké. Voor eieren cappuccino etc betaal je extra. Standaard koffie en broodjes en eenvoudig beleg horen er wel bij. Personeel is vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Soms wel gehorige omgeving. Er leuke plus is de locatie met een plein en prachtig overzicht over de stad met leuke eet en drink standjes en soms live muziek.
