The Strand, Dugort Achill

Having read the reviews we weren’t feeling too confident about this hotel for food. We were very pleasantly surprised! Really lovely staff who couldn’t do enough for us. The fish and chips was excellent and our friends asked if the chef could do them a fish curry. The chef was very happy to oblige and produced an amazing seafood curry with rice AND chips!!!

Stayed in campsite nearby. Tipped in for food on a bank holiday weekend. Staff were great. Ordered two steak dinners, waitress explained the wait time on food. This is very normal anywhere that takes walk ins especially on a bank holiday. Lovely to sit outside with beautiful views as we waited. When food arrive it looked amazing. These were definately the best steaks we have ever eaten. Thats saying alot as we usually order steak when we eat out. We've eaten in alot of different restaurants from bougie spots to steakhouses. Perfectly cooked , seasoned with a fabulous peper sauce. We would reccomend here 100% . Bar staff friendly and chatty , waiter and waitress so attentive and friendly. We'll definately tip back in here next time in Achill.

Just popped in for a drink on a Sunday evening but wanted to say how lovely this place is. Friendly staff, good value, clean and a great view too! I think it’s under new management from the signage.

We didn’t stay at the Strand but came here from the nearby campsite and were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel isn’t all gastro pubbed up to the eyeballs - it’s very plain and quite old fashioned, but the owners are absolutely delightful and the place has a lot of warmth. The landlady was so welcoming and there was live music which was lots of fun - we both had the fish and chips which was very good.

I just had to set up a trip advisor account to leave a review for this amazing hotel on Achill Island! A group of 10 of us arriving in Achill for a weekend of sport. The strand hotel the only option that was available on such a busy weekend, but it was very easy to get to and in a great location! It was sitting right on Dugort beach which was just meters away! The staff were just simply unbelievable, nice, helpful, attentive - bend over backwards to ensure guests were happy! A special note to Margaret who seems to take care of everything from check-in, serving at thé bar, breakfast/dinner, guest care and rooms. There is so much pride for this hotel you can tell this from the locals who attended on Saturday night, there was a fantastic atmosphere in the bar. It’s a meeting point, it’s a place to go and it’s a necessary focal point of Dugort! Granted the hotel is rough around the edges but the soul of the hotel lies with the staff and how happy the guests were upon checkout. Margaret and staff went to all lengths to make sure we (a group of 10 young lads and lassies) had a happy and comfortable stay! The rooms were everything we needed comfortable, clean and was actually fairly quiet! The food was delicious - I got the chicken burger on our first night and it was amazing! Kudos to the new chef on site! After a full on sporting day on Saturday, the full Irish breakfast on Sunday morning was much needed and set us up for the drive home! Again, The staff were extremely attentive and were very patient with us (10 in our group)! I would absolutely stay at the Strand Hotel again, a great gem of Achill! Just to note that the previous reviews dont do this hotel any justice! Please go and experience it for yourself! But remember your not booking The Ritz!

A big group of 10 of us were coming for an adventure weekend that included the Achill 10k, with almost zero options other than The Strand as most places were booked out. Despite the awful reviews and already negative expectations, we had no choice but to all book here together. Thank god we did! I have nothing but positive things to say about The Strand Hotel and for the life of me can’t imagine what the other reviewers were smoking when they rated it so bad. Not one person in our group of 10 found fault with the amazing host, Margaret (who was literally a hard working diamond that did everything she could for us), the restaurant quality food (breakfast and dinner was superb) or the hopping bar on Saturday night that was electric. Yes, it is very dated and could do with an upgrade, as the rooms are quite basic and old. But you ARE paying for a 2 star hotel. However what you get is 5 star service, clean comfortable rooms and a beach literally on your doorstep. Plus it all added to the simple experience which we loved. 5/5 would definitely stay again.
