Hotel Review – Ibis Central
Rating: 3.75/5
I recently stayed at Ibis Central and overall had a pleasant experience.
Location:
The location is definitely a highlight—conveniently situated next to a major shopping center, which made exploring and grabbing essentials super easy.
Room:
The room was clean and comfortable, with an interesting layout where the sink is placed inside the bedroom instead of the bathroom. We were kindly placed on the 18th floor, which offered great views—shoutout to the reception team for that.
Service:
Reception staff were friendly and accommodating. However, communication with housekeeping was a bit of a challenge due to the language barrier, especially when we tried to request extra blankets and pillows. It would’ve been better to ask directly at the front desk.
Amenities:
Something to keep in mind—there were no complimentary toothbrushes, toothpaste, or slippers provided, so be sure to bring your own.
Breakfast:
The breakfast was decent with a good variety of options, though it stayed the same each day. The standout feature was the make-your-own juice station, which was a nice touch.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, a solid stay with a few minor inconveniences. With some improvements in guest amenities and communication, this place could easily push closer to a 5.

The shoebox room is a good pick if you are looking for a cheaper option with a private bathroom (although it is a very small bathroom).
Further on the bathroom size, there is minimal space, and if you are taller or larger, you will find it very difficult to manoeuvre around it, with the sink being about 6 inches long and 2 inches wide.
Although it says hair conditioner is provided, it is actually not, and the front desk had confirmed that trip.com has not updated it accordingly.
It is worth noting that there is no microwave in the room, but you are able to go to the front desk if you need to warm food. There is always someone at the front desk 24/7 as well.
The walls are also quite thin and not at all soundproof, so pray that you do not have noisy neighbours or spill any secrets in a loud manner.
Very convenient location in Docklands with free city trams almost right outside and the Southern Cross railway station less than a 10 minute walk away.
If you are coming from the airport, a SkyBus is available that comes directly to the Southern Cross station and is a much cheaper option than a cab, especially if you are solo or packing light.

Great hostel, lots of activities and social group outings. Located very close to the Markets and Melbourne CBD with the free Tram zone so easy to get around with plenty to do.
I had a larger room but my friends had really small rooms that would be the only negative.
Great roof top space for evening views and socialising with hot tub.
The best hostel kitchen I've stayed in and have travelled the east coast and Western Australia. So many stations, great number of quality equipment and lots of space for food although fridges are always full np matter where you go.
Really happy with this stay.

+ve well located in the city
+very friendly staff
-ve small rooms for three of us.
-ve flooring stained. Paint peeling off in bathroom. Room needs a refresh
-ve tiny bathroom and tiny wash bassin. The sliding door was broken. Bathroom and wash bassin should be in a separate room.
Recommend for couple but for family book a bigger room as pictures are non-contractual.

Great staff on the front counter.
You get what you pay for. Rooms are dated, need some TLC.
On saying that, very clean.
Bed was great, sheets, towels all good.
A great position.

Hotel is a bit aged. And it took quite some tine to find our room as each floor is big like a maze. Nonetheless the beds were comfortable and bathroom was clean. Location was excellent too.

Never stay on Saturday. HOW can one sleep next to nightclub noise until 5 am. The nightclub next door is IN open air. The heavy metal music penetrates even fully closed windows at 6th floor. The mega base shakes the walls too. Wonder how the patrons in the nightclub can stand such level of noise. Hearing aids clinic should open next door. It is crazy Melbourne government can issue the license so they can run the business scraficing wellbeing and welfare of neighboring residents.

HHaydnThe positives were the hotel staff, who were very accommodating and attentive, and the convienant free shuttle bus to and from the airport. The location itself is an ideal distance from the aiport, however it is quite old, with long, unattractive hallways of old red brick, which smelled of cigarettes and mustiness. The communal areas were extremely limited, as though an afterthought, and I can not imagine anyone actually using them, so they're likely just for show, but it doesn't look inviting. The view from the back side of the hotel looked out through some low trees to a dirt field, which is fair enough for a 3-star hotel, however there seems to be a large amount of (guard?) dogs being kept in a fenced area on that property only 40 metres away from the hotel, and they bark constantly, day and night, with peaks of extremely excited barking which is noticeably loud and hard to ignore. There were an old pair of dirty shorts clumped in the hotel's yard, right below the balconies and tree-line, which was a bit off-putting to see. There is not much around the hotel in walking distance, including public transport, so expect to use taxi or uber unless you want to walk extended distances.
Generally, the hotel was serviceable for an overnight stay. However, I do not recommend staying here for any more than an overnight layover. It was not a comfortable or enjoyable experience, and best used for budget stays only. The age of the hotel is very evident in its cramped and dated design.

SSRuss83I stayed in Box Hill motel between 3rd of Nov'23 - 5th of Nov'23. My husband and I arrived at Box Hill motel around 12-1pm. We were so exhausted as we took turn driving from Sydney - Melbourne. We drove from Sydney past midnight. Upon calling if we would be let in early, surprisingly it is allowed. Otherwise we would have slept in the car until check-in time if the room isn't ready yet. We got room no.1 and it was very clean. I didn't use the towel as I prefer to use my own towel, my husband also use his own towel.
One of the hanging towel though had a snot on it and I put that towel aside despite we didn't use it. There were 3x plates in total and one of the plate was dirty and I assumed previous guest must have used this 1 plate and didn't wash it but instead just slipped it in between the clean plate. We used 2x plates for ourselves but I washed the 3x plates myself.
Great Wifi speed too as I was able to complete a little bit of work from Room no.1.
My parents always taught me to appreciate and respect people's places. Upon checking out, I saw Carol and OMG, she is so kind, friendly, down to earth and helpful. She was busy rolling people's luggage to their room. I remember my father always taught me the great businessman is not the one who always wanted to be served but the one who knew how to serve others first. There's a saying about ”servant leadership”. A great leader know how it feels to be at the bottom to observe, learn and serving others as well as better appreciate the top and experience various roles to understand the duties and responsibilities of each roles.
THANK YOU Box hill motel team and Carol too for allowing us to stay at your beautiful clean and tidy place. We were able to sleep very soundly, hope nobody can hear us snoring :)
I highly recommend Box Hill motel, Melbourne to anyone on a trip to Melbourne.
CCHRIST CHRISTOFIBooked the Nightcap at Matthew Flinders for the great price on offer and also the reasonably positive reviews. This was perfect for our two night stay in Melbourne for a wedding and relo crawl on that few days. Checking in late around 10:45pm was though the Gaming Room at the rear of the complex The staff there were very friendly and chatted with me while waiting for the manager to check us in. All went smoothly considering it was very late and my wife was feeling weary after flying in from Brisbane. The room was a good size, clean with a comfortable double bed and a single that was handy for laying out clothes etc. The shower was nicely refurbished and the water flow was hot and strong. Cant really fault the stay as it met all of our needs and the value for money was excellent. The location was only half hour from most places we needed to visit so overall a well positioned hotel for a short stay in Melbourne. Nestled in beside Bunnings it was nice and quiet for a busy road location. Would definitely stay again if we need to be that side of town.
GGuest UserOpen area is spacious. Kitchen is spacious but no where available in fridge. No hairdryer provided in room, ID card is required as guarantee if you borrow it at reception.
The toilet is small, no space for toiletries, not even a hook. The toilet has some bad odour. There was dripping right at the ceiling above the toilet bowl, I reported to the staff, they promised to follow up yet no one did that before I check out. I have to tolerate the dripping during my whole stay.

BBel ZThe high-ceilinged, old-fashioned building exudes a unique charm, though the public bathrooms are a bit small. Rooms near the stairs might be noisy at night due to people coming and going, as there's no elevator. The beds are extremely comfortable, and complimentary drinks, including non-alcoholic options like juice, are available near the front desk. It's thoughtful to have coffee for sale downstairs as well! The common areas are spacious with plenty of spots to use a computer, watch TV, or have a quiet phone call.
GGuest UserWhen we arrived to check in, we couldn't get into our allocated room because the key card wasn't working and so we were upgraded to a bigger room which was good. When we arrived inside, the rooms were clean and all made up well. So that was good. My criticisms are that they were very stingy with the toiletries, shower wash, shampoo etc and also damage that was visible in the apartment had been patched up with duc tape, for eg the edge of a kitchen bench or just left, like swollen timber trim in the bathroom or damage to walls , carpet etc. In all , it was quite cheap and well located near the CBD and we only stayed a night and so it served its purpose. However I feel if the damage was repaired properly, and there were proper toiletries, it would have been a much better experience .

张张I am Chinese. I have stayed at this hotel many times. The first time I feel it is acceptable. Now I feel worse and worse, but the location is better. The service can only be improved. There is no hot water in the bath, and the air conditioner is noisy. There is no spare pillow in the room, the sofa collapses, just the TV can meet the requirements. Such a room should not be offered to customers. I only stayed for one night so I didn't pursue other things. I won't stay at this hotel again.
GGuest UserThe live situation of the accommodation is reasonable in Melbourne for such a price. The service at the front desk of the hotel is very good. The towel will be thoughtfully windy.
