"Arrival and first impression:
Driving to Hengfang Road in Xishan District, the hotel is hidden among the blue bricks and black tiles of the thousand-year-old Dangkou Ancient Town. The white-walled and gray-eave buildings and the waterway stone bridge complement each other, as if you have stepped into the ruins of the ”Jia Dun Garden” where Master Hua retired in the Ming Dynasty. The lobby is inspired by Jiangnan gardens. The Su-style window lattices reveal mottled light and shadow, and the ink screen outlines the artistic conception of mountains and rivers. The soft voice of Wu Nong in the ear is intertwined with the sound of flowing water in the courtyard, instantly washing away the hustle and bustle. Manager Lu and Harry at the front desk were very enthusiastic to communicate with me about various matters before I checked in.
Guest room: light luxury secret in the courtyard
Check in to the ”Shuizhuju” courtyard room (55㎡), and you will see a private courtyard as soon as you push the door: bamboo shadows are dancing, stone paths are mossy, and a tea table is waiting for the rain. The interior is based on wood and stone, with original wood furniture and plain fabrics. The bed faces the floor-to-ceiling window, and you can see the smoke from the streets of the ancient town in the morning. The bathroom amenities are made of herbal formulas with Jiangnan fragrance. The bathtub is placed by the window. When you are taking a bath, you can see a black-sailed boat passing by the river outside the window - this is a ”dynamic mural” unique to the water town.
Elegance on the tip of the tongue: Huaiyang flavor and slow time with tea rhyme
Canjulou Chinese Restaurant: Dinner tasted the seasonal ”Taihu Three White Banquet”. The steamed white fish is as tender as clouds, and the whitebait and radish soup slides into the throat with the coolness of spring. The chef reproduced the classic dishes in ”Shan Jia Qing Gong” with knife skills, a chrysanthemum tofu soup, thousands of golden stamens floating in the clear soup, taste and vision together for an elegant feast.
Bishan Hall Lobby Bar: In the afternoon, sit in front of the panoramic glass window and order a cup of ”Mo Ran Xi Shi” special blend (gin base melted with Wuxi Hao tea, garnished with lotus root powder dumplings). In the mist of tea fragrance, watch the rowing boat pass through the stone bridge outside the window, time seems to be frozen by the flowing water of the ancient town.
Immersed in the humanities: boat trips and intangible cultural heritage handicrafts
The night boat trip is the most unforgettable experience. The wooden boat slowly moves along the veins of ”small bridges, flowing water and people's homes”. In the sound of oars and lights, the boat girl sings Xi opera tunes, and the lanterns of the old houses of Ming and Qing dynasties on both sides are lit up one after another, like traveling through the corridor of time and space. The next day, I participated in the hotel's intangible cultural heritage workshop. Under the guidance of the master, I made a ”Dangkou wind chime” with purple bamboo and engraved the seal character ”peace” - this handmade work has become the most special Jiangnan token.
Health and wellness moments: spa and garden swimming pool The constant temperature swimming pool is paved with celadon mosaics, and the 25-meter swimming lane reflects the hollow flower windows. When cruising, it seems to shuttle through the garden scroll. Experience the ”Wu Di Moxibustion” SPA, wormwood hot compress combined with Taihu pearl essential oil massage, and the shoulder and neck depression gradually melted with the ”rubbing cloud technique” flowing between the fingers of the technician.
Contemporary interpretation of the philosophy of seclusion:
The beauty of MGallery is that it turns ”seclusion” into a tangible ritual of life: practicing Tai Chi in the courtyard in the morning, listening to Pingtan in the corridor at dusk, and placing a thread-bound copy of ”Hua Family Charity Estate” on the desk in the guest room. History is no longer a window display, but a breeze by the pillow, tea smoke in the cup, and clay on the fingertips. When leaving the hotel, I was given a ginkgo bookmark with a pattern of Qian Mu's former residence engraved on the leaves - just as the hotel said: ”Stories leave traces”, the scenery here has long taken root in my memory. When I checked out, the girls Liu Wei and Li Xiaoya at the front desk said goodbye to me very warmly, and I look forward to coming again next time"
