My two nights at Miss Sophie's in Olomouc was in the middle of six weeks away, involving eight or nine hotels. Miss Sophie's was way up the top. Where to start? The warmth of all the staff, mostly young people. The location, right on a tramline from the main station and a few minutes from the central historic squares. The rooms - my room had a view onto the street. The owners have done a fabulous job converting the old building into a hotel, with wonderfully inventive use of old building materials eg the tiles in the bathroom. The cafe / drinks area at the rear of the ground level became a favourite place in Olomouc. This room, which is used for breakfast, is open late and attracts a range of people who clearly love the ambience and friendly welcome from the staff. I strongly recommend Olomouc eg the bishop's palace is now an astonishing museum and suggest you stay at Miss Sophie's. I will be looking into the hotels this small boutique chain operates in other cities when I'm planning my next trip to Europe.
