Gennadi Grand Resort

Had 9 days at the Gennadi Grand in mid June. Really was a 5* experience in almost every way. Pros Relatively new (7 years apparently) , so still looks good. very modern brutalist architecture softened by growing plants/trees Amazing food in terms of variety and quality. went half board- best food ever at a resort. Nice rooms - junior suite for 3 adults - comfortable king bed and sofa bed was good Water bottles provided every day plus coffee/tea Staff were impeccably polite and helpful Lots of entertainment. Went to a brilliant astronomy lecture one night and watched an amazing South African opera three-some. Also classes in cooking, tile making were fun Swimming pools (lots of them) were large and clean Beach was a bit scruffy to look at but very quiet shingle/sand-gets deep quickly so good for swimming - maybe not so great for young children. Lots of umbrellas, and very uncrowded. Good shop on premises selling everything you might need and very nice ladies fashion shop run by beautiful Greek lady, her mum and daughters. Prices reasonable for clothes and very nice jewelry. Gym small but has 5 machines to work your various bits, two bikes and two running machines plus free weights and bench. Was never busy and you can book a session. Didn't try the spa. Owner of gym/spa very nice/cool Rhodes guy who has won awards for his gyms that are located all over Greece and Cyprus. Cons Not much really Not enough clothes storage for 3 people in junior suite (let alone 4) so my daughter lived out of a suitcase. Need a couple of chest of drawers to be added. Plenty of room to do that. Drinks expensive.

The service was going well and the staff are amazing until I asked for something off menu. Booked a double room suite all inclusive, not cheap. Asked a question at reception about the vegetarian options in the steak restaurant that shares a kitchen with the Italian restaurant adjoining. Nobody got back to me so not only did I miss the booking slot but was told even though they had no main veg options for my daughter I could not take one from the Italian menu and was simply told "that's why they have different restaurants". So should I send my 14 year old daughter to another restaurant to eat on her own? Clever trick is they offer you all inclusive 1 time at the three restaurants but have limits options and don't cater for properly for vegetarians so you can't really use them. Nice hotel but dumb rigid rules for a 5 star.

We’ve just had a fabulous week at Gennadi Grand Resort. We had a lovely spacious room with a balcony. The bed was so very comfortable and great silent air con. We were half board so had breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. The food was delicious and very varied plus the staff very friendly and helpful. The only thing I may change is the lighting in the dining room in the evening to change the atmosphere. The fitness activities with Brigita were great. We did aqua fitness most days and also yoga. I particularly enjoyed the early morning beach sessions. The hotel didn’t feel particularly Greek but Gennadi village was a short walk away for the authentic Greek experience. All in all a great week and we’d recommend Gennadi Grand for a relaxing stay in a Five star hotel.
