"This is a great guesthouse with onsen. I love it . There’s an open onsen & close onsen privately .
That’s a nice kitchen & dining room. You may buy from the guesthouse to cook on your own. Such as instant noodles. Very well organised. Thanks."
"There are fewer restaurants near the hotel. You can go to the hot springs when you stay in the hotel. Although the facilities are very old, it is really comfortable to soak in the soup after hiking! ! The front desk does not speak English but the service attitude is very good, it is still very recommended"

"Although the location is relatively remote, the boss service is good, the spring quality is super good, it is a hot spring hotel that can be visited again."
"The second time I lived, the last time was 8 years ago, the facilities were still clean and not significantly old. There is still the hospitality of traditional Japanese-style hotels. The hot springs are still good, and it is a relatively new hotel near the Dragon God."
"It is located in the countryside of Tanabe but the transportation is relatively convenient. This hotel is a member of the Secret Hot Spring Guardian Association, and the water quality of the hot spring is very good. The waiters were all local elderly people, and my lovely mother-in-law came to talk to me with a translator during dinner. The food is not luxurious, but it is still quite traditional and authentic Japanese home-cooked food."
"Typical Japanese hot spring hotel. The bathing area is outside the hotel, and many Japanese people drive over. The open-air bath in the bath is very large, with 5 pools for men's baths and 4 for women's baths. The hotel has 4 family baths, which are free for hotel residents. Hotel guests have two keys, one is the door to the house, and the other is to open the family door. The hotel has a free shuttle bus from Shirahama Station. There is also a free shuttle bus to Kumano Hongu Taisha. The one-park-two-food set meal is quite satisfactory. Because the hotel is located in the mountains, there is nothing around it, so it can only bubble soup at night."
"The room is quite satisfactory, the location can also walk a few minutes from jr, relatively quiet.
There is free coffee to drink, this is a small surprise. Because I had to catch the bus of Kumano Kodo the next day, I didn’t have time to eat breakfast, haha"
"Very old-fashioned hotel, the door is still opened by a key. The hot spring is great, you can enjoy the outdoor hot spring. Dinner and breakfast are super nice, the service is very comfortable. It drizzled in the morning, sitting by the window to enjoy the tranquility of the mountains. The bus was very crowded in the morning when we left this stop, and the hotel brother quickly drove us to the next stop. There were backpackers who were climbing the mountain, and we squeezed the most crowded bus in the past 20 years to go down the mountain to Hayatama Taisha."

Excellent
GGuest UserThere was an open-air bath with color 々, and it was a very good hot spring to choose the type and time of 40 minutes. It was a consecutive night, but 1 During the day, when I was staying, I was busy with PC work, and I was disappointed that I could only go to the front desk on the first day of check-in and couldn't make a reservation for the hot spring. The staff were cheerful and kind, and when there was something, they casually told me 〜 and were all nice staff. It was not just a business hotel, it was not a bustling tourist hotel, and the furnishings and the inside of the hotel were old, but it was not only old, but it was a hotel where you could feel the taste. The staff was also a hotel man.
GGuest UserI am very glad to stay in this hotel in Tanabe. It is especially suitable for traveling alone. I didn't expect to have such a comfortable hotel when hiking the Kumano Kodo. The hotel has a private bathroom and breakfast that feels like home. It is very convenient to be five minutes away from the station.
CCEL_LI was about to give bad reviews due to some poor check-in experience, but everything after check in is so good that compensates this journey.
First, the check-in process that brings me with bad experience: it is self-served and there is no any staff. By rights you should receive an instruction email with check-in PIN in advance, which I heard from other guests. However, I didn’t receive anything but Trip’s confirmation letter and I was unable to check in. And my sim card in Japan is just an internet card unable to make phone calls, which means I have no way to contact the hotel directly. My partner and I were desperately locked out of the hotel in the evening, after 7h hiking, with no other available hotel in the mountain. After waiting for over 1 hour, other guests helped us to enter the admin room where there is an ipad to call the hotel (why not make it available to guests without checking in?), and with the help of Trip’s agency, we finally checked in successfully.
Then here is the staying experience: so good that makes me almost forgive the poor check-in experience. Each room is a spacious individual house and ours has a garden for BBQ. The food is also self-served, with the cooking stuffs and ingredients in the fridge. It was unexpected that you need to cook yourself (I don’t think it was listed on room info when I booked it), but it’s not bad that Wagyu, chicken, and vegetables are served. The rooms are big and cozy, and you can do the laundry after hiking.
Everything is good about the hotel itself, just be aware of the self-checkin process and make sure you get the instructions before that.
GGuest UserThe room is very nice, a Japanese-style room with 8 tatami mats, very spacious, the hot spring is a bit small, there were not many people during my stay so it was not too cramped, the experience was good. The meal was average, but you can definitely eat enough. There were a lot of people on the last morning, and it was a bit noisy... The service was very good, the shuttle was convenient, and the location was pretty good, but there were not many buses stopping at Kawayu every day. If you are nearby, you can ask the hotel if there is a shuttle bus. If you want to take the bus far away, you have to plan your time~
GGuest UserThe hotel is a little off the beaten track, but fortunately it is close to the beach.
The food in the included meal is good, but you can't take out drinks, not even sugar-free cola. The most impressive thing is the Japanese breakfast buffet, which is rich in variety and delicious. I ate a lot.
The hotel facilities are relatively old, but they are well maintained, function normally, and are clean and tidy.
QQinglingThe location is still very good, the room is too small... The space planning is very compact and there is everything that should be there. The price is really cheap, so the overall price is very high, it is a good choice for us to stay for one night. The scenery of Kumano Ancient Road is really good
AAnonymous UserIt is very close to the station, and you can even connect to the wifi in the room at the station (
A long history, but well-equipped, clean and tidy
The boss is also very nice, and the stay is very happy
GGuest UserKind of annex of the sister hotel next door. In the annex is an onsen, washing machine and dryer (free to use), vending machines with beer and drinks and noodles. Room is basic. I had a great view on the river. Small balcony, but dirty and no chair. The annex is okay to stay if you are hiking.
The best thing is the sister hotel. A great onsen with outdoor bath. Nice souvenir shop with a bit more food. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
They also provide bus services (bring and pickup to Hongu Taisha, the other onsen places, the trailhead busstop) which you can use! Just call them if you want to be picked up.
I did not realize Kawayu Onsen is a very small place with NO supermarket. If you did not book breakfast (served at the sister) bring your own into town or eat instant noodles.
There are 2 small restaurants with delicious local food.
GGuest UserThe room was very clean. The landlady was kind and could communicate in Chinese using a translation software. I ordered her breakfast for 800 yen and it was very comfortable. I didn’t know what to choose from the meal. I just ate what she made and I was very satisfied. This B&B can pick you up from the station. I don’t speak Japanese, so I can only walk there. When I left, she drove me to the station. I liked it very much! The bus runs twice a day, and it’s difficult to take a taxi. The pick-up and drop-off is very pleasant.
The average price for hotels in Tanabe is SAR 674 on weekdays, and SAR 716 on weekends (Friday-Saturday).
