We had only about 45 minutes time to have a drink and small bites as we wanted to visit Cathedral for later pray at 5.30pm and hear the organ. Walking the street we nearly miss it as it was covered by scaffolding. We said straight to the staff that we will have only something small but the smile on the face and "no problem" felt that we are welcoming - which is not every time the case when you don't want to have meal and spend more money. We ordered 2x breakfast tea and bottle of J2O and 3x chips and paid £28 for everything. There was also small courtyard - nice when is warmer to sit outside. You can also read about the life of Guy . Visited over August bank holiday opted for steak pie which came with chips and gravy and was advertised on a sign outside saying best pie in Yorkshire. Pie was good but at £22.50 each was vastly overpriced. Good outside eating area though.

My wife and I stayed at the guy fawkes inn and absolutely loved it. We stayed on the top floor and it was so interesting and quirky. We’ve literally never stayed anywhere like it. It was worth every penny. Super close to everything and everywhere you want to explore. Can’t wait to go again

Visited for lunch during summer holidays with 2 children under 10. Sat outside in the garden right at the back. Lovely comfy chairs, plenty of room and importantly for us lots of shade too. We had pie and mash - possibly the best pies we have ever eaten! Truly delicious. And children’s meals were good portions and great quality too. Husband had the Guy Fawkes ale on draft which was also good. Staff were friendly, the pub has a great story with the link to Guy Fawkes, can’t recommend this place enough!

⭐☆☆☆☆ We booked the Guy Fawkes pub in York for our 20th wedding anniversary, as I’m actually related to Guy Fawkes and thought it would be the perfect place to mark the occasion. When booking through OpenTable, the form even asked if it was a special occasion, so we expected a little acknowledgement. Unfortunately, the experience was very underwhelming. On arrival we were seated behind a door in a corner with no view at all, hardly the atmosphere we had hoped for. For starters, I ordered the prawn cocktail, which was ruined by a big ice cream scoop of frozen Bloody Mary. It was bitter, overly spicy, and made the dish unpleasant, definitely not worth £12.50. My husband chose the buttermilk chicken starter, which was cooked well and very nice. For mains, he had the steak and ale pie and was extremely disappointed. The flavour was more like BBQ or smoke (which he dislikes), the gravy was lacking, and the mash was bland and reminiscent of school dinners. I went for the buttermilk chicken burger, the chicken was so overcooked it was dry, there was barely a teaspoon of sauce on the whole thing, and the “brioche bun” didn’t feel like brioche at all. When we asked staff about Guy Fawkes, they didn’t know anything, which was surprising and a bit disappointing given the theme of the place. There was also no mention whatsoever of our anniversary, despite flagging it at booking. We left £74 down for food that really wasn’t worth it, and with our special day feeling a bit ruined. We didn’t even stay for dessert. We went to Heavenly Desserts instead, where they asked why we were in York. As soon as we mentioned our anniversary, they brought out a complimentary plate of strawberries and melted chocolate with “Happy Anniversary” written on the plate, such a thoughtful gesture and the complete opposite of what we’d just experienced. Considering my family connection to Guy Fawkes, I had high hopes, but sadly the whole evening was a real letdown. Considering the reviews was a massive let down.

We dropped in here for BH Sunday afternoon drinks, sat out in the far garden which is a great area with plenty of seating, patio heaters etc. We were only intending to stay for a couple but ended up staying much longer and decided to eat here. Ordered food via the app, tables were set with cutlery promptly. Great that they serve a Sunday roast well into early evening. I went for pork loin, two thick cut pieces of pork which was tender and tasty, very thick gravy, heritage carrots, cabbage, a fab Yorkshire pudding, roasties tasted very much like Aunt Bessie’s which put me off and spoilt what would have been a good and generous portioned roast dinner. We also had a beef roast, steak pie and beef burger - all good portions and enjoyed.
