Lake Como has long been a summer destination for those either looking for a longer break or on a day trip from Milan. However, visiting in the winter as we did can provide an alternative view of the lake. Without the crowds, and expensive prices you can feel free to explore this beautiful corner of the country with some places feeling like you’ve got the whole lake to yourself. In addition this can be coupled with a trip to nearby ski resorts such as Foppolo which has lift passes for a bargain €16 per day.

On the way from Milan to Switzerland, I was tired of driving, so I found a hotel near the highway... I thought it wouldn't be too good, but I didn't expect it to be a big surprise. The overall feeling is very good. ...The rooms are all password locks. The front desk gives you a card with a password written on it (if you arrive at night, you can check in by yourself).
