Zhenfeng Tower

Anqing | Yingjiang Temple | The First Tower of the Yangtze River Zhenfeng Tower Anqing City, An of Anhui, once the capital of Anhui Province, was once known as one of the 'Five Tigers of the Yangtze River'. Yingjiang Temple is located in the southeast of Anqing, connecting Jiuhua Mountain in the north, facing Mount Lu in the south, bordering Tianzhu Mountain in the north, and facing the Yangtze River in the south. For hundreds of years, Yingjiang Temple has been prosperous with incense and has produced many famous monks. The 'Zhenfeng Tower' in Yingjiang Temple was originally named 'Wanfo Tower', also known as 'Yingjiang Temple Tower', and was later renamed 'Zhenfeng', meaning 'to revitalize the literary style'. Because before the Ming Dynasty, Anqing had never produced a top scholar, and the literary style was declining. A master of astrology and feng shui believed that the surging waters of the Yangtze River in Anqing made it difficult for literary talent to take root, and a tower needed to be built to suppress it, so that the literary talent would not flow away. Although there is no scientific basis, interestingly, after the construction of Zhenfeng Tower, the literary style in Anqing did indeed flourish.
