Largest Library in The Past at Athens

The Hadrian's Library was created by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in AD 132, as part of his grand re-building plan for the city. It was located at the north side of the Acropolis at Areos 3, Athens 105 55, and is open daily from 0800-1500. In the past, the library was the largest in Athens, used to store important literary works, legal and administrative documents as well as offer a place to hear lectures and host various philosophical events at school. The Hadrian's Library with its columned facade and high wall are next to the lively Monastiraki Square, visitors will just need around 170 meters 2 minutes walk from Monasteraki metro station. The library was massively damaged in the past, excavation work started in the late 19th century, and an attempt was made to restore parts of its library to its original form.
