A Lovely Day at Blickling Hall – Rhododendrons in Bloom

I spent a truly wonderful day at Blickling Hall, and what a treat it was! Nestled in the Norfolk countryside, this Jacobean mansion is one of the National Trust’s crown jewels — but today, the spotlight was all on the rhododendrons, bursting into colour around the grounds. The gardens were absolutely alive with vibrant shades of pink, purple, and white. Walking through the estate felt like stepping into a dream — especially around the Temple Walk and Wilderness Garden, where the rhododendrons form lush, fragrant tunnels. It’s the kind of place where you want to slow down, breathe deeply, and just take it all in. The hall itself is rich in history and beautifully maintained, with impressive architecture and a fascinating past (yes, this is where the legend of Anne Boleyn’s ghost originates!). But on this visit, the gardens stole the show — a perfect blend of formal design and natural woodland magic. Best time to visit? Late May to early June is ideal for rhododendrons in full bloom. Early morning or late afternoon gives you the best light and quieter paths.
