Exploring Northern Thailand: The Black House Museum

The Black House Museum, created by the late National Artist Thawan Duchanee, showcases thousands of his works. The museum consists of 36 houses, all designed by Thawan himself and painted entirely in black. These houses serve as a repository for various art pieces, including carved wooden sculptures, ancient lacquerware, precious silverware, and an array of animal skins and remains, such as snake skins, buffalo horns, and deer antlers. Admission Fee: 80 Baht Getting There: Take the Super Highway towards Mae Sai. Pass Chiang Rai Rajabhat University and continue for about 3 kilometers until you reach Nang Lae Village. Look for Sermsuk Company, then turn left into the alley on the left-hand side. Follow the road and blue signs for approximately 300 meters.
