Zhipeng Ancient Village, Chongyang, Hubei

Zhipeng Village is located at the northernmost tip of Baini Town in Chongyang County, the most remote village in the town. Renowned across three southern Hubei counties for its abundant bamboo resources and traditional small-scale "fire paper" workshops since ancient times, the village derives its name "Zhipeng" (meaning "paper shed") from this heritage. The village preserves several ancient residences, including the Rao Shilong Bao Family Mansion (Qing Dynasty) and Xiongjia Pai Old House (Qing Dynasty), all listed in the Xianning Ancient Residential Protection Catalog. As part of the Qingshan Reservoir area, it was once classified as a provincial-level deeply impoverished village due to poor transportation and infrastructure. After achieving full poverty alleviation by late 2020, it developed homestay tourism leveraging wetland park resources. By 2024, the village established a 321-acre Polygonatum cultivation base, adopting a "cooperative+base+farmers" model to boost incomes. Recognized as the fifth batch of China's Traditional Villages.
