I'm sure hipsters are familiar with this four-story, retro Japanese cafe, but this was my first time there. The first, third, and fourth floors house the restaurant, while the second floor sells Japanese boutiques and vintage clothing. There are plenty of photo-op spots both inside and outside. Miyazaki Nanban Fried Chicken Bento - $88 The bento is wrapped in a patterned handkerchief, brimming with retro Japanese style. The opened wooden box contains exquisite Japanese food. Nanban chicken is Miyazaki Prefecture's most famous local dish. Nanban pickles create a perfect balance of salty, sweet, and sour flavors. Deep-fried to a crispy, dry texture, the inside is tender and smooth, and topped with a little tartar sauce. There are three pieces in total. It's served with two soy sauce rice balls, simply soy sauce-sweetened rice, lightly grilled for a smoky texture. Side dishes include a smooth and flavorful soft-boiled egg, pickled bean sprouts, pickled cucumber, and a salad green for a refreshing touch. Smoked Salmon, Avocado, and Crab Roe Salad - $98 Each layer is distinctly layered. The first layer boasts a thick, salty crab roe with a hint of crispness, topped with a runny raw egg yolk that bursts with a poke. Next comes the juicy and sweet crab salad, blended with rich, creamy avocado puree and plump smoked salmon cubes. The bottom layer features juicy, sweet, and sour diced tomatoes. The toast soaks up the extra sauce, adding a crunchy texture. The balsamic vinaigrette on the side offers a sweet and sour touch without overpowering the flavor. Baked Stuffed Oyster Mushrooms with Cheese - $88/2 pieces The juicy Oyster Mushrooms are smooth and bursting with a refreshing mushroom flavor, their juices oozing out upon bite. The crust is covered in black peppercorns, adding a hint of spice. The center is filled with shredded cheese, diced onions, and diced bacon. Dirty Mocha - $52 The chocolate paste overflowed the rim of the cup, making it look "dirty." The chocolate itself had a strong sweetness, followed by the smoothness of the milk, and then the aroma of the coffee itself, creating a trio of flavors. Li Li Lychee Black Tea - $68/pot This rich, honey-flavored black tea has a bright red color and a fragrant lychee aroma, leaving it fresh and sweet. Cheesecake - $58 The cheese filling was smooth and velvety, with a light, pleasant cheese flavor and a subtle milky aroma that wasn't at all cloying. Passion Fruit Cake - $58 Compared to the cheesecake, it was a bit more monotonous. The passion fruit itself wasn't overpowering, with a refreshing sweet and sour flavor.
