HK Island, a busy, bustling city with so many varied activities to try!

So much to do and so many beautiful things to see on HK island alone. Spend a Wednesday evening soaking up the atmosphere of the Happy Valley horse racing and have a go at a small bet …. There is always beginner’s luck if you have never tried this before! There is so much greenery surrounding the city so why not try a hike along the Dragon’s back. This is a fun way to get rid of some pounds after having tried a selection of delicious dim sum at City hall. You can even walk to Shek O beach and take a swim. An evening trip on the Star ferry is an economical way to see the harbour front and get some magnificent photos of the sunset. A leisurely walk along the Tin Hau/ Causeway Bay promenade lets you see the lights of Kowloon and HK island and there are plenty of seats and paddle boats if you fancy a rest or gentle activity of paddling on the water. A tram ride to the Peak is a must with a flat easy walk around the top enabling you to see HK from all perspectives. A trip to Stanley market enables you to find all your holiday gifts in one place !! Take the No . 6 double decker bus, sit at the top and enjoy the views as the bus chugs along the coastline to the southern part of the island. On the way back go to Aberdeen and see all the traditional fishing boats. Sadly the floating Restaurant that featured in so many films has been demolished but still a lot to take in and enjoy. Hong Kong Island has so much to offer!

Mussel-Hunting Adventures at Shek O Beach 🦪🌊✨ If you’re up for a unique seaside experience, Shek O is Hong Kong’s laid-back coastal gem where the gentle waves and rocky edges invite you to connect with nature in a hands-on way—mussel picking! 🏖️ Start your day by strolling Shek O Beach’s east side at low tide, when exposed rocks near the cliff base reveal little clusters of wild mussels. Slip on waterproof shoes (those rocks are sharp!) and pack a small bucket for your haul. Mussel gathering here is a fun way to interact with the local seascape—just double-check the water quality before biting into your bounty. Remember, only take what you need and respect the local ecosystem! In between mussel hunting, snap insta-worthy shots with the dramatic ocean cliffs as your backdrop—especially at golden hour, when colours pop and the crowd thins out. Explore the old village lanes for pastel walls and quirky, weathered architecture: perfect for candid beach day photos. ✨ Quick Tips: Shek O is open all day, year-round, but tides matter! Check tide timings for best picking and easier walks. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water—shade is limited. The bus from Shau Kei Wan MTR is easy and drops you super close. Key Precaution: Mussels here aren’t regulated for consumption and Hong Kong’s water quality varies—so only eat them if you know it’s safe, and rinse thoroughly. #HongKong #ShekO #BeachLife #LocalAdventures #NatureExperience
