Phra That Chom Chaeng: One of the Nine Sacred Phra That Temples

Wat Phra That Chom Chaeng, Chiang Rai 📍 Wat Phra That Chom Chaeng is located in Mae Suai Subdistrict, Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province. It is one of the Nine Sacred Phra That Temples and is considered an important religious site in Chiang Rai. 📒 According to legend, a revered monk traveled to this location to preach Buddhism to the locals. He arrived at dawn in the year 2001 BE (1458 AD). The monk asked an elderly man, who was practicing Dharma and guarding the site, to fetch water from the Suai River to wash his face. The monk stayed at the site for seven days and entrusted the elderly man with a sacred relic of the Buddha. The relic was enshrined in the Phra That, completing the construction of the sacred site. Since then, locals have referred to this place as Phra That Chom Chaeng.
