See the nature, Feel the history. Located at the highest point in Penang, Penang Hill, also known as Bukit Bendera, is a must-visit for first-time visitors. Due to its elevated position, taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of George Town and the mainland Butterworth. It is not only a natural spot for hiking but also a popular dating spot for couples. Malaysia was once a British colony, and due to its high altitude and beautiful scenery, Penang Hill became a place where the British built their villas. To facilitate travel up and down the hill, a cable car was constructed, which now serves as Penang's backyard, rich in ecological diversity. A round-trip cable car ticket costs 30 MYR, approximately 320 TWD. It is recommended to spend a bit more on a fast pass to avoid long queues both up and down the hill. This extra expense is worth it to save time. Upon reaching the summit, you will find a strong commercial presence with love locks, heart-shaped photo spots, and numerous restaurants and cafes. While it may feel a bit touristy, there are plenty of places to rest and grab a bite if you get hungry or thirsty. At the top, there is a vibrant Hindu temple dedicated to the war god Murugan, who is depicted holding a spear. There is also a Muslim mosque and the Gate House Bel Retiro, the former governor's residence, all remnants of the British colonial period. Penang Hill also features an eco-park that requires an additional fee. It includes a pristine rainforest ecosystem, a forest canopy walk, a giant swing, and a circular skywalk. There are plenty of attractions, making it a great spot for family outings.
