[Germany] Oberammergau

#AbsolutelyFreeTrip Oberammergau is a small town with a population of about 5,000 people located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen district in Bavaria, southeastern Germany. It is a beautiful village with rows of beautiful houses painted with frescoes, making the whole village seem like a museum. There are many shops selling the famous wooden carved dolls, and you can enjoy shopping for Christmas ornaments and strolling around the village. It is also famous for the "Passion Play" that is performed once every ten years by all the villagers, and costumes are on display in the theater. It began in 1634 as a way of giving thanks to God for being spared from the plague epidemic of 1632. The play is performed by amateurs, and only town residents are eligible to perform, but the splendor and grandeur of the play is extraordinary, and the festival, which is held only once every ten years, attracts tourists from all over Europe and the world. I went there as part of a day trip bus tour to Neuschwanstein Castle, and it was really nice to see the idyllic scenery of the pastureland surrounded by the Alps and the beautiful German villages. It's a bit difficult to get to, but if you have the chance, please go.
